So, I got to level 80 like 2 days ago, and I got armor and weapon smith on my Warrior, so I thought I’d get my proffs up, but I’m wondering how much gold is it going to cost me roughly? Any ideas?

Also, how good is the level 80 crafted gear anyway compared to dungeon and karma stuff, thanks

Also, is there any guides that are still relevant to crafting that can help me level them in the most gold and material efficient manner? Thanks again.

I didn’t lvl my armor/weapon smith til after my 2nd 80 so I probably had a little more mats then you have when I lvl’d my crafting. I am also assuming you saved all your mats.

But I had to spend about 10-15 gold, definitely no more than 20g to lvl both. One rule I used that worked great for me and other crafters, refine as much as you can each tier til it is greyed out, then use discovery to get yourself to the next tier. Also, try discovering recipes that use two different mats, example…Hammer, needs a wood component and a metal component because wood is much cheaper and you can sell your medal left overs for a much greater profit if you wish.

http://gw2crafts.net/total.html for costs, also always current crafting guides.

There is no difference between a masterwork crafted vs masterwork drop of the same level(and stat name e.g. berserker). However it can be sometimes “cheaper” to acquire an item through crafting it.

I personally would not gear just 1 toon via leveling crafts to make gear for it because of the initial cost. However when you start gearing 4-5 toons the initial cost becomes bearable.

If you want to level your professions as cheap as possible - Look up a guide on google for that specific profession. They will tell you exactly what mats you need and how to use them, etc. They are quite detailed and helpful.

Also, welcome to the community. In future, I would try to the "Players helping Players" section with questions like these >> https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players.

**EDIT** - forgot to add - this is also a great thread for new players: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players/page/4#post1637986

Here is a good craft leveling guide: http://www.gw2wiz.com/
As for cost, you will need to check that yourself

Regarding karma/dungeon vs crafted …

Crafted masterwork/rare/exotic is the same as the corresponding karma/dungeon/WvW kit. The only variation is in the type of stat distributions.

Some are the same, i.e. crafted beserker is the same as dungeon beserker. however, some dungeon and temple armour is available in ‘soldier’ stats (p/t/v) that cannot be crafted.

You can, if you want to make the effort, level a craft starting with less than 1 gold and end with more money than when you started. This is without farming for materials, just buying off the TP. Here’s what it will take:

1. Patience. You can save significant amounts of money by buying with offers instead of buying at the seller’s prices. But doing so takes a patience, because an order may take an hour or even a day to fill. And it may not fill at all if you get the offer price wrong.

2. Research time. Most people make everything from raw materials, but it’s often cheaper to buy some parts or refined materials from the TP (with offers). Right now, there are a lot of masterwork parts for sale far under the cost to make them, because of the Monthly masterwork crafting requirement. You’ll need to compare raw materials, intermediate materials, and part costs to determine which avenue is cheapest. You can use sites like GW2Spidy, but their prices lag the TP too much for me.

3. Karma. With Karma, you buy recipes to make rare item parts. The Rare recipes make parts for Level 35, 50, and 65 rare items. While Fine and Masterwork items rarely sell for a profit, you can usually find one or two rare ones that give a decent profit, but exactly which ones are profitable changes fairly quickly. If your goal is just to level up cheaply rather than actually make money, you can sell at or near your cost (but remember the 15% sales fee!).

Keep in mind that the road more travelled will be more expensive, because the other travellers drive up the cost of materials and low the prices of whatever you sell. So, I’d avoid using a guide.

Good luck!
