What happened to crafting precursors, a feature that was highlighted in one of the posts on the news section?

It is coming before the end of the year.
I would say it is safe to assume that the Ascended Crafting added in the latest patch was a first step towards it.

have they mentioned that anywhere?

Well, there will have to be some kind of weapon involved, but as for the other three, you probably aren’t too far off xD. People have been pretty happy about being able to craft precursors, but I expect the mats are going to be a pain in the kitten.

Would be nice if making a precursor was equal to making ascended. Since the precursor is an exotic after all.

I would make the kittening about precursor drops disappear in an instant though. I approve.
