What to do w/ level 80 equipment drops?
I vendor everything except for rares and exotics regardless of item level. I use a mystic salvage kit for these items, but I keep a Black Lion kit for recovering runes and sigils from items. Some of those are quite valuable.
My rule is:
- Salvage all white junk.
- Vendor all blues/greens (unless holding a rare gem).
- Auction all rares/exotics <75
- Mystic forge all rares/bad exotics 75+

The only exception is if the 74+ Rares are selling for less then the cost of 1 glob of ectoplasm, then I use a Black Lion Slavage Kit to try and get a glob of ectoplasm.

Black lion salvage kit has less chance to get an ecto than a master salvage kit. It has a 10% chance to salvage better materials, wheras master has 25%. Black lion is for salvaging upgrade components.

According to the patch notes, they fixed it so the Blacklion kits are up to 50%.
@Crake Black Lion Salvage Kits actually have a 50% chance of getting rare mats. The text on it was incorrect. They updated it last night to reflect the real salvage rate.
All must fall, and those that stand highest fall hardest.
I salvage white, blue and greens with the Fine and yellow with I think the Journey. I’ve sold the crafting materials I get on the TP when the price is right. At one point, I did end up selling some stuff to the Merchant. Inventory fills up pretty fast. If I don’t have a salvage kit on me and there’s a Merchant, off it goes.
