I’m a newly lvl 80 engi, and I need both money and crafting mats.
Mainly the crafting mats that let me craft exotics, so far iv only had enough to craft my self a helm (that looks really ugly on a charr) and an ugly pearl rifle.

I started hunting the 3 dragons for the loot, other than that dungeons seem to be the only way to gain money.

So far Iv been using a white salvage kit on white items, selling the blues, using Mystic salvage kit on green items, and tossing yellows into the mystic forge.

I’m wondering how other people salvage stuff. I’m thinking of salvaging yellow armors and only toss in weapons. What little I know about these (pre)legendary items, they only come in weapon form.
or if maybe I should sell the green items and salvage the blues instead.

my rule of thumb is: If the salvaged items cost more than the vendor price, salvage it. So this would theoretically apply only to white. I salvage all whites i can get (tip: use basic ones, i’ve gotten like 10 ori ores from basic ones, and it’s much cheaper), sell all blue and green, and salvage yellow (using yellow salvage kit, but ofc this is only for 70+ rare, to get me some ectos)

tossing rares in MF is a waste unless it’s 4 of the same kind (4 rare swords, 4 rare shields, etc).

I salvaged 4 rares last night and got only 2 ectos. Used the Black Lion Salvage kit. 30 Silver from ectos. If I sold the rares for 15S each, that would have been 60S. Kitten salvaging. Sell rares on TP.

Both ways are the best, myself and the guy i play alongside are realising that when we get a 70+ rare we should check it’s value on the auction hall, if worth it then sell, if not smash. We have a good reserve of ecto and sigils etc now and every so often we find a rare bow thats worth half a gold.

For white, blue and green, sell green to vendor and smash all blue and white. Gives a decent mis of income vs mats this way.

As for mystic forge, like roulette this is something that should only be approach by the rich or the drunk!

You can still kill the starter zone bosses, most can be soloed. They give out loot based on your actual level and you should make at least 10 silver for the short period of time it takes to kill them. The only one that causes me any problems is the Fire Ele…. still. Easy money there.

Yes, but on the flip side, you sometimes get 3 ectos out of a rare. Salvage 1 rare and you can sell 3 ectos.

I always salvage whites and any rare that isn’t a leather armor piece, greatsword (I don’t use them but making a greatsword precursor would be good money), dagger, shortbow, or pistol (not going for the precursor except for the shortbow though getting exotic weapons is great for upgrading stats).

i salvage all whites. blues i usually sell. greens i’ll check the TP, in rare cases you get more than the vendor – start to recognize which types of items, along with which group of stats sell more.

for yellows – i check price on TP. then i check prices for ectos. then check if i’m feeling lucky. if it sells for quite a bit (significantly higher than price of just 1 ecto, i’ll sell it), if it’s around the same price of ONE ecto and i feel lucky, then i’ll salvage. it’s been approximately 50 50 for me receiving just one ecto. so it’s not TOO bad. though i want to say in the long run, you could probably make more selling the rares. also take note of what sigil is in them. if the sigil itself is in high demand, then i’d use a Black Lion kit to ensure you get the sigil, while salvaging for the chance at some ectos.
(note: if i am crrect only lvl 68 and above have a chance for ectos. make it 70 to be safe)

exotics? if they don’t sell for a butt load, i save ‘em for now. still haven’t entirely deicded what to do with these yet.

well i personally salvage things that are hard to get. i do salvage whites of all kinds with just a crude salvage kit and i salvage things like medium armors and light armors for cloths and leathers BUT only the blue kind. greens auto sell to merch ( no such option i just mean i sell it without brainstorming weather or not i should salvage) rares i salvage with my BL Salvage kit or mystic kit (whoever im playing as) and exotics….LMAO only had one drop and i just sold it worthless junk it was too me. as for mystic forge i hate gambling….in this game so i say to heck with it.

I know there is a mystic kit you can get that’s cheaper than 5x rare kits.

is there a kit like the basic one you can get w/ 250 charges?

(Sidenote I need to buy more bag space)
