Where do I start
You start by finding the best way to “farm gold”

For your legendary, you should go for the Gifts of Mastery and Fortune first, as both are needed for every Legendary.

For ascended stuff, i would also start with weapons as they give more stat advantage over exotics compared to armor.
Did you level any crafting yet?

I’ve made several legendaries and this is the process I’ve found to be the most efficient.
- Decide which one you want to make and research it thoroughly.
- Make sure you understand exactly what mats are required and how they are obtained (don’t be one of those people who decides to make Juggernaut just to find out its the most expensive legendary and then QQs about silver doubloons.) This research may affect your decision.
- Make a list of what resources you already have and which ones you still need.
- Start with the Gift of Mastery. Its the easiest part and is a universal component for all legendary weapons. You will aquire mats and gold along the way, things you’ll need later on.
- Make your mystic clovers. Another universal component. You will get t6 mats and other components you may need if you don’t get clovers from the forge.
- Level the appropriate crafting professions for the specific gifts you need.
- Work on the specific gifts you need. These usually involve a lot of wood, metal, dust, leather, or cloth which can be gathered or salvaged for. If you don’t have much gold and you’re not in a rush, try not to buy these things directly (but you may have to).
- Work on lode stones (if any) and dungeon gift. There is sometimes a little crossover here as you may get lode stones and cores from the dungeon you need to run (but not always).
- T6 mats. You will need to buy a fair amount off the tp. I prefer to do this last (or second to last) since you will, by default, collect them (but sadly never enough of them) while doing other things for your legendary.
- Precursor. You’re on your own here. If its under 400g on the tp, save your gold and buy it. If its expensive, you may want to consider trying to get it from the forge but remember its a long shot. Saving and buying it is always a safe bet, but it may take a while.

get lots of gold and T6 mats, save 1 million karma, save 200 skill points, get world exploration. The rest will just fall into place.

No I haven’t really leveled crafting at all. Wasn’t really my scene for a long time

Then you should really consider just farming your gold the way you like and buy one off the tp.
Personally i really enjoyed my journey towards crafting my first legendary because it made me try content that i until then didnt really like or tried. If thats not your cup of tea, there is no shame in buying it. It also has the advantage that you can sell any drops as you wont need it for crafting. Just make sure to not sell directly to the highest bidder but undercut the lowest seller by a copper. That way it might take some time until your stuff sells but you will get ~20% more gold from your sales. Even if it takes a week or month to sell, it doesnt matter much as you will propably need a couple of months anyways to get the gold for your Legendary.

My advice is don’t sell any crafting materials. You will need to get to 400 in two crafting areas and this can mostly be done with materials you collect yourself doing world exploration. Once you have levelled those crafting areas then sell by all means.
Tentonhammers advice is pretty much what I do. The things that will hold you back are the t6 mats, the lodestones or silver doubloons and the precursor. Also, it’s worth running whichever dungeon you need early. You will only need to do eight runs of it in explorable mode, but if you end up liking it then that’s not a terrible way to get a hit of gold each day.
I also saved up my laurels to buy t6 mats from the laurel merchant towards the end of my building process, so do your dailies. Salvage your blues and greens for magic find too, which will mean more t6 materials drop in high level areas.

No point in keeping mats, if he doesnt want to craft.

He will need crafting at 400 in two areas in order to make the gifts.

You dont need 2 crafts at 400 to be eligible to buy a legendary off the trading post.

OK, I see what happened. Your post appeared as I was typing mine so I didn’t read it. The OP still said he wanted ascended gear as well though, so crafting is still required.
