Guild Wars 2 is purely about cosmetics. This has been stated so many times it’s unbelievable.
The reason you make a destroyer short bow over a pearl shortbow is that the destroyer shortbow looks great, and the pearl shortbow looks…yeah.
Also, afaik, only legendary weapons will be promoted to ascended weapons.
Mind you, legendary weapons are also purely cosmetic atm. Everything you find is purely cosmetic with the exception of this ascended gear – which you at one point or another might want to transmute.
Luckily the only ascended gear out now is rings and 2 cloaks (which look awesome).
They look amazing and have a subtle and sinister particle effect to them. Keep in mind that there are other weapon sets that require special materials for crafting like hylek or grawl weapons.
Could you link me from where you learnt that legendary weapons will be promoted to ascended?
I have no proof, but i was told in future the stats would be exotic < ascended < legendary.
I wasnt asking to be able to craft something that would be better then the end end game items.
I accept that the destroyer weapons are very cosmetic, but unlike mystic forge weapons and legendaries, these are rather “meh.”
Its alot of work for not alot of bragging rights, when juxtaposed with the legendaries.
also with the inclusion of new item ranks, i was hoping that crafting would be able to grow with the game, i.e craftable ascended items.
It’s in one of the blog posts I believe. Legendaries will always be the highest stat. I’m not sure what they are going to do about transmuted legendaries though.
Have you seen the destroyer weapons in game? Sometimes the particle effects don’t show up properly in preview.

Seriously, between the pearl weapons and the legendary bows, I’d say ANet might want to review the child labor laws. Four year old girls are too young to be working for you, guys, sorry.
I also am curious about how they will deal with crafting and ascended items. I wonder if they will give it a full crafting system like exotics, or if they plan to keep it as obtainable through grind mostly, to entice people to farm new dungeons. I sure hope they do it the same way they had the current system, to where you can get equal gear through crafting. I assume they’ll update crafting with new ascended recipes when they release ascendeds throughout the different game modes.

I made a Destroyer GS for my Guardian and I don’t regret it at all. Placed a buy order for the Lodestones and it was filled in about an hour. It looks awesome.
Decided to make one for my Warrior so placed another buy order. Completed the sword and decided to see if it sells. 15g profit.
