Particularly the one handed sword, but a few others have gone up quite a bit too. The usual price used to be 40-50 silver, but now it’s like… 70 silver, and I remember a time when all yellow weapons were about 30-35 silver.

Is there a much larger demand of precursors now or what?

The title used to say some rare (yellow) weapons, but the 45 character limit ate that, so don’t hate on me for generalizing falsely.

A general rise in the value of Ecto and Precursors, yes. It might not seem it, but there’s actually a lot more players in the game working towards Ascended gear and Legendaries now, which also increases demand for Rares and Ectos.

Leather rare (yellow) armor tends to still be around 30s though, so is there an ecto difference or is the smart money on breaking those down for ectos? Or maybe it’s that leather as a material is less valuable, thus it’s better to get Ori or Gossamer from other items?

There is a base level for rares related to the price of ectos. At 70s I am guessing you are looking at one of the desirable weapons for a legendary. Greatswords, staves, hammers and (I think) daggers have prices dictated by the cost of precursors rather than the price of ectoplasm.

Ascended crafting shouldn’t have much impact on ectos. Crafting those is going to require salvaging exotics and that is probably going to get you more ectos than you need in order to get enough dark matter.

That’s true, although I was thinking more of the Exotics you’ll need to craft to level yourself past 400. You could, of course, simply bypass that by buying the Exotic inscriptions you need.

I noticed a lot of rare weapons went up when they introduced the wardrobe. People have always compared rare price to ecto price, and bought the rares when they can make a profit by salvaging and selling. the wardrobe let them collect the skins as well, so there’s more reward from salvaging, so people are willing to pay more. especially for the lower supply rares. before, people would only buy them if they could salvage for a profit; now people also buy them to collect the skin. so it went from low supply + demanded only if cheap to low supply + high demand.

Rare weapons are more valuable to forge than salvage at the moment, and their price on the TP reflects that.

Rares that can be used to make specific, high value precursors (greatswords, staves, daggers, swords) are even higher, reflecting the price of those precursors.

Basically, the markets have caught on.
