Why is crafted ascended weapon account bound?
Actually you only need 500 in either Weaponsmith, Artificer, or Huntsman depending on which weapon you want.
Am I legendary yet!?
there are 3 weapon crafting professions, 3 armour crafting professions, you can have 2 crafting professions active on one character at a time, basically you only need 3 characters to craft all full sets of ascended items including the not-yet-released armour, seeing how you have 4 character sots as default, one more character can use cook/jeweller so you dont really need to be that bothered, just spend some time on it and eventually you’ll be good :P

I think the point is that whilst you can currently get exotic weapons from the trading post, crafting, event drops, WvW, dungeons, fractals, etc you will only get ascended weapons through crafting. You might need a huntsman, weaponsmith, and artificer for the capability to make the weapons you need on your character(s). You will need to get them up to level 500. Crafted items will still only be account bound.
For someone with no crafting at all, because crafting always seemed optional, this is a problem. A lot of players just see crafting it as a repetitive time sink with no fun in the crafting mechanics.
So, the ascended weapons also dropping as a “Chest of Stat X, click me to turn me into any weapon you want with Stats X” is being ignored in this conversation?
I’m guess the new chests will be account bound also, but that’s just part of a general theme that being a master of the TP doesn’t mean you are entitled to the best of absolutely everything…
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I should also mention the Crafting is the LAST STEP. You also need to do champ fights, dungeons/jump puzzles, & WvW along with amassing a heap of tier 2-5 mats, gobs of ectoplasm (literally), skill points, kharma, laurels, and obsidian shards (remember those?).
Crafting is the least of your worries. Seriously.

Consider you can buy/sell legendaries this makes little sense. It’s backwards, now the new ascended weapons are things you earn but, anyone can buy a legendary,
The gift for legendaries HAVE TO BE SET UP AT 500 (instead of 400 actually) CRAFTING SKILL in every professions now if not it doesn’t makes sense.

maybe it’ll happen when the armor crafting professions get 500, either that or the cook and jeweller, whichever comes last, if not, it wouldnt be fair

A side affect of this is that crafting for profit is going to take a huge hit, as those of us who enjoy crafting will no longer have an income stream because everyone who wants an ascended item will now HAVE to craft and therefore no longer buy their exotics or other gear.
Also, people who want ascended weapons, or think they might, will no longer be selling mats. They know they have to have them for themselves since buying a weapon is not an option. What will this do to the prices of mats?

I’m not sure why this has to be the case. 400 crafting is when you can start making level 80 exotic items, and there’s a lot more to making a Legendary than the gifts.
I suppose 450 might make some sense, because that’s when the ascended materials start opening up, and Legendaries are now equivalent to Ascended. Still, this seems like kind of a needless requirement.
it seems strange to me that this topic isn’t getting more attention. i’m extremely disappointed that ascended stuff is account bound. it was pretty annoying with jewelry being forced to do fractals to get the rings (before the laurel vendor) and now anyone who wants an ascended weapon will have to level their own crafter. i guess it just goes along with the rest of the theme of this game where you don’t need anyone else to do anything….it’s the MMO you play by yourself

A very wise move from anet on this one.
You’re not forced to craft, as you can loot them also.
Yes, it will be difficult. Like crafting one.
More difficult than grinding 200 gold.
I see it in as an effort to focus on playing the game instead of playing the tp /
brute farming.
I actually enjoyed building my own celestial armor, instead of buying one on the tp.
It has special value for me.
If only people could let down their fast food service expectations for everything in life…

I’m pretty sure that’s the point. It’s so the powertraders actually have to play the game and can’t just drop some of their multiple thousand gold to buy it from someone else. Honestly makes me want them more than a legendary, no matter what they look like.
The only thing that makes sense to me about ascended weapons being account bound is that no ascended item can be obtained with money. You need to actually play the game for them: you need to do fractals for pristine relics or daily achievements/gather achievement points for laurels to get rings, you also need laurels to get amulets, and you need laurels or guild commedations for accesories. Backpacks require vial of condensed myst so they also cant be obtained just by spending money. The only exception for this rule is Triforge Pendant which can be bought from TP then crafted using items which are tradeable(and that only because the changed the recipe once account bound walled was added in game).

Some of the materials you craft for the ascended weapons will be able to sell on TP.
These will be craftable once a day, thus giving them value. The price of these mats will most likely be a fair amounth higher than the crafting price.
As for crafting for profit, which exotic weapon’s can you do that right now?
Prime example; http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/15475
Destroyer weapon’s do give you higher room for profit though.
Having ascended weapon’s on TP is just a bad idea, there will be too much supply and will leave no margin for the crafter.
Why even people list berserker weapons on TP atm, is beyond me. They are loosing money on it.
My geuss it’s uninformed people that don’t realize selling the materials would make a higher profit.
I am very disappointed to find out that the crafted ascended weapons are account bound. I was going to level my Artificer to 500 so I could craft an ascended weapon for myself and my husband. My husband doesn’t have a lot of time to play the game, so I was planning to farm the mats for him. Now that I know gifting an ascended weapon is impossible, I have no incentives to level my crafting.
As a casual gamer, it is way too time consuming and expensive. I’d thought that legendary weapons were for those who are truly dedicated to the game, while exotics can be gotten for little effort comparatively, and ascended somewhere in between. Now I find that ascended weapons are almost at the legendary level in terms of how much time and effort must be invested. I am afraid that if I attempted to farm all the mats just to level one crafting profession just so I, and only I, could benefit from it…I’d lose interest in the game as a whole. Like someone said, the game will turn into Farm Wars 2.
I know that ascended weapons can drop from champions, so hopefully we will get one, one lucky day. Or maybe they will make them available through the laurel vendor like they did the trinkets. Crossing fingers….
I was really hoping the new direction in crafting with specific recipes to choose from and materials limited to one a day was to make being a crafter viable again.
If you, as a crafter, were only able to make one specific ascended broadsword (for example), there wouldn’t be that many of you around and you could make a living in the game by crafting and buying your specific materials.
Also, this would promote guilds more, as a guild could help each other reach ascended gear and in turn get each others ascended gear of different kinds. This was what our guild was hoping for atleast, where different players has maxed out (400) different areas.
So, the ascended weapons also dropping as a “Chest of Stat X, click me to turn me into any weapon you want with Stats X” is being ignored in this conversation?
Well, considering their drop chances, yes, you can safely ignore them.

It oscillates now around 8 gold each. I assume once the people will realize how long really is the timegate (3 days for dowel, 3-5 days for weapon specific components) and that getting mats for vision crystal (which is account bound) takes longer, the price will go down significantly.
