Why salvage for ectos when you can just by them?
Yes, but if no one salvaged those ectos. There’d be none to buy.
and sometimes if you’re lucky you get 3 ectos for the price of 1! although idk if you can get 3 ectos from rares, i know I got it from exotics, but that’s a diff story. Can anyone tell me the success chance and qty of getting ectos from lvl 80 rares, versus 76, 74 (if there is one) and so on and so forth? I only get a few rares and I vend them on TP or combine them in MF (hehe i know, bad idea)
If items is worth > 25 silver, sell on TP, if < 25 silver, salvage. That’s my standpoint. Even with that rule, I make a lot of ectos. If no one supplied the ectos to the TP, how could you possibly buy them?
Main: Hunter.
look at the rune on it too… yesterday i salvaged an item sold for 50s … 2 ectos and a rune sold for 40s
If you assume that ectos have an equal chance of giving 3,2,1, or 0 (we would need confirmation or tests) then you have, on average, a chance of making 24 silver per gear you salvage (w/ Ectos @19s ea) which includes the 15% fee. You can add in the cost of salvage kits but it would be negligible.
I’ve done enough for it to seem like they are all equal chances. So as somebody stated earlier, if you can sell it for more than 28silver (remember 15% fee) then I would sell it. If it’s around 27s or less, I would salvage it.
In my experience most rares, even level 80, sell for less than 25 silver on the BLTC.
Okay, then salvage them. Go buy 15/20 rares (whatever you can afford), salvage all of them and sell the ectos. As long as the pieces are under 22/23s you should make a profit. The price will change, but then most likely ectos will too, so they will keep eachother in balance.

Ironically, the prices float right around 22-23s. I wonder why .
