Celestial gear is ridiculously hard to get. It has to be self-crafted, because every part is accountbound on this stat combo exclusively. Weird enough but ok. But also the charged crystals are time gated. WHY? I have tons of completely useless quarts. Why is the conversion still time gated? Ok, go farm some quartz nodes and just pray to RNGesus for charged drops. But… turns out the nodes are accountbound and there are only 2 or 3 in total… Why? Why do you hate celestial stats that much that it absolutely must be a complete pain in the posterior to craft a single piece? Even most of the ascended time gated materials are tradable which makes it easier to obtain ascended than celestial. Is celestial really so completely overpowered that it validates requiring an entire month to craft?

Since quartz is much cheaper than the T6 mats, having the timegate on crafting charged quartz preserves the value of the T6 mats.

What do the other T6 mats have to do with it? The charged crystals aren’t tradable so they have zero value. Quartz is so much cheaper because it is practically useless. Timegating plus accountbound just eats valuable time and gives nothing back. It is cheaper and faster to just switch to another stat combo. If I could trade 250 crystals for an instant charged that would waste less time and give value to the charged crystals. Or keep them time gated and make them tradable. At the moment it makes the impression to be designed to be annoying.

Everybody before you had to craft with the same timegate, unless you can provide solid proof that you are a special snowflake, they wont lift it for you.

…and posts suggesting this is less than reasonable started appearing practically since day one. “Because tradition” alone is not an explanation for anything. It may be valid if it’s something people actually like, but this is not a case with celestials – while people generally learned to live with it, that timegate has never enjoyed any significant support (and always had visible opposition).

This has been explained many times before as well. There are dozens of topics on cleestial crafting in this forum.

Timegates make people log in every day, which is good for the game, in Anets position, I wouldnt lift it either.

Charged Quartz is also an ingredient in the grow lamp for Maudrey, those timegated items give crafters the opportunity to make a profit by logging in daily and craft these items.

So why do you think that we should lift the timegate and make celestial crafters happy and disgruntle grow lamp crafters in the same move?

First off, the time gate should have been lifted months before grow lamps ever came to be.

Secondly, how about some consistency? Why make one gear type time gated and not the others. Don’t even bother arguing because it makes people log in every day. There are plenty of other ways to do that (grow lamps, ascended gear, whatever). Gating one particular stat combo that isn’t even THAT popular was and still is silly.

@OP: This has been brought up so many times it isn’t funny. Bringing it up again won’t do anything. Anet won’t change things like this even when it’s obvious it needs changing.

Ascendent armor also has its own daily craftable components 1 per 24h. Why don’t you hate this that much ? I suggest you to relax and play – you will get your gear in time.

I gotta admit, I am really tired right now and my brain is kinda going in and out, but even with that in mind…

Why would something like celestial be so hard to get? It’s not even that great. So you get super special stats I guess? Ok, whatever. So if you’re one of the people who actually gives a crap about that stat combo then you have to jump through 50 hoops while literally everybody else has an easy time getting their armor type?

I’ve yet to begin understanding why it is like this with any stat combination. Diverse play is already abysmal with the zerker meta. Locking interesting stat combinations behind special hoops just makes it worse – can anyone say to me with complete honesty that they believe it doesn’t make it worse? That it’s some kind of positive thing?

I confess myself mind-boggled. And I swear it’s not just because I’m tired.

From the developer point of view, gating is an easy way to restrict content or a flow of goods. So I understand why it appeals to ANet.

From this player’s view, I think it just replaces open-ended content with tedium. It never makes the game more fun.

But, I accept that ANet has been tempted by the darkside of expendiency and that it’s just something we have to deal with in the game. So, instead of anxiously counting the days until I can convert enough quartz, I assume it’s going to be months before I have enough. I make a mental note to e.g. wait until 2015 to check and sure enough, I’ll find on Jan 1 that I can make another set. Not the way I’d prefer to play, but since I can’t beat them…

If it wasn’t time-gated, players would be able to make easy/cheap exotics to throw into the forge for a chance of a pre-cursor. This would unbalance the economy as precursors are a large chunk of it. Devaluing the cost of gold is dangerous.

Quartz/Charged Quartz is pretty easy to obtain (compared to other T6 mats) as you can get them without dedicating much time or effort- you don’t even need to be level 80 to get them. Most players had a significant amount from the Labyrinthine Cliffs LS, Wintersday, Dry Top and also from harvesting in their home instances. I’m sure people still have a lot of Quartz Crystals because of how easily obtainable it was and how little it’s used in. So even if they lifted the time-gate now, it would still create an unbalanced economy.

Just the amount of ectos/ori/ancient wood to craft exotic weapons is more expensive than the cheapest exotics on the tp, so cheap quartz wouldnt unbalance this.
