Leveling your crafting professions will be expensive, regardless of the guide you choose.
If you are a new player and don’t have a large stockpile of money and resources available, I recommend ignoring crafting for now. Go out, get some money and ingredients, then use crafting to level your alts.

This one here http://gw2crafts.net/cooking_karma.html has an option to concentrate on ingredients from hearts but it will still cost over a gold to max out.
thx I was following a guide and have gotten to level 100. However, the next step calls for loaf of bread. I can find no loaf of bread on market or in chef vendor. There are lots of special breads but none just loaf of bread. i tried one of the specials with the other ingredients but it did not work. i appologize for not working the org post correctly to let you know where I was.
oh and w hat does it mean about the hearts? do i buy hearts of some kind or what
Some sites have you buy ingredients so they can monopolize and make money off you. I only mention this because I made over 300 gold profit when people were doing the mad rush to hit 400 in crafting using guides.
To raise cooking I simply pull up a list of recipes, find the items around my current level and start discovering with the ingredients I have already collected (gather at every node I see and can get to reasonably).

If I recall Loaf of bread is a discoverable recipe. Learned from the discovery tab. Yeast + water + flour

total cost was around 4-5g

By hearts I meant the Renown Hearts in the maps, you do them and when completed they turn yellow. The NPCs sell stuff after completion and some of the items they sale are cooking mats. You buy these items with karma, not money.
