When I reached crafting level 125 (in Weaponsmithing), I bought a recipe from the Weaponsmithing vendor that let me create a “Strong Iron Imbued Inscription”. At level 125 of crafting, I create level 35 weapons, so I crafted some nice level 35 Rare weapons for my level 35 character. -)

Now that my character is level 40, can I somehow create a suitable Rare weapon for a level 40? I tried making another “Strong Iron Imbued Inscription” to combine with steel items (Shield boss and backing), but the Discovery window didn’t let me combine them.

The next recipe(s) I can buy from the vendor are for crafting level 200 (which I think correspond to a character level of 50). Is there some way to craft Rare items at crafting level 150 and 175?

The wiki has (almost) all answers and according to it, no it seems there aren’t any rare items for levels 40 and 45 (crafting works a bit weirdly in that regard) the next rares are at lvl 50 and crafting lvl 200. The good news is that you generally don’t really need rares or level appropriate items (although it can make things easier).

If you look at the stats, rare items will generally tide you over for about 10 levels compared to masterwork which need to be replaced every 5 or so to keep up with the mobs. However, you can get rare item drops for levels that are not craftable. Also, if you really want rare items for levels you can’t craft at, check out dungeon merchants.

You can craft the Rare (purchased Recipes) versions of insignia / inscriptions every 15 levels (coincides with the Masterwork (GREEN) items), If you have the fine materials and stick with one or maybe 2 stat combos, it’s not a bad idea while leveling.

You don’t need to replace your equipment more than every 15 levels anyway.
