how did people find the “recipe” to make a legendary? did anet just give out what parts were needed to make a legendary? or did people throw random stuff into the mystic forge (toilet) to figure out what was needed?

It was slowly figured out after everyone’s involvement. Some was given by Anet, most was discovered by people throwing stuff in the MF.

Someone at ANet said early on that clues were scattered throughout Tyria as to the recipe for legendaries.

Having played through the game for countless months now, I have yet to find any clue that would help me figure out the recipe for a legendary.

Has anyone found any of these ‘clues’. I’m just curious as to if they exist and what they are.

Look at the site, for full recipes. But most of the clues were added gift recipes such as gift of metal or gift of wood. Then others were figured out by putting in different materials in the forge.
