leather and cloth nodes
Logic, really. You can’t ‘mine’ cloth or leather, not directly anyways. Technically you can’t mine some of the metals that are available directly without some sort of smelting process.
With leather, you do have one more option: Focus on enemies that drop hides. They don’t usually drop gear and it should help your rate of return.
So why are those who need leather and cloth still forced to jump through more hoops/endure more pain than those who need ore or lumber?
You need leather?

In other games I’ve played, players were able to gather those materials from insect webs for silks (cloth materials) and from carving off defeated beasts like raptors or boars for hides. A possible remedy for focused gathering/lack of nodes, except there’s a larger concentration of mobs/area for leather so Anet will have to figure that part out.

Well then ascended armor should have had recipes more in line with that logic as man many of us pointed out before it was even introduced.

thats what salvaging is for. If anything I kind of wish there was less leather. Stuffs sells for kitten so I end up just vendoring off piles at a time.

As I’ve already pointed out, salvaging involves a lot of rng (rng to get a drop, rng to get the type of armor that yields leather or cloth, rng to actually get the leather or cloth, etc); whereas ore and lumber can be harvested in a very time-efficient manner.
they should make it better chances to drop from moa’s, deers, boars etc, the mobs that most ppl just run past…
Cloth scarcity will probably be addressed by increasing (possibly even doubling) the number of scraps we get from salvaging. I’m unsure if leather needs the same treatment, as prices for leather seem to be in a good place, although I’m not opposed to it.
I guess dev’s tried to even out the amount of metal/leather/cloth by ajusting the slavage rate of the armor pieces. When you salvage medium/light armor you get 1.5-2 times as much material as when you salvage heavy armor.
The reason why this shows literaly no effect is because most of the weapons have a chance to yield some metals too. The reason why they don’t flood the market is because metals are used up a lot more frequently then leather/cloth.
Cloth recently got new recipes which lead to the high demand we have today. Since this happened recently the supply/demand will even out eventualy and I highly doubt that the dev’s will ajust any salvage or droprate for cloth before that happens.
As for leather: There’s way too little demand presently to justify a salvage or droprate.
Leather should be a semi-guaranteed drop from animal mobs.
Cloth is somehow more difficult, but there can be plant type nodes like hemp, cotton bush, mulberry tree, etc., and wool you can have after shaving a sheep with a harvesting sickle.
Seriously – I absolutely agree there should be some granted way how to get cloth and leather, similar to wood or ore, and the game details are not such a big deal. Linen and silk really does not grow from dead bodies of Flame legion.
Logic, really.
Oh, really? I have been wasting my time on MMOs for ages and no MMO dev ever bothered himself with trying to make things logical. You can get invisible after shooting an arrow from a longbow. Logic.

I kind of wish that harvesting plants would drop “plant fibers” that could be woven into cloth scraps.
Leather has almost no use in the game, so the current gathering option already provides an oversupply of product.
Anet could add silk and leather nodes if they really wanted to. Could simply have ‘rubbish piles and/or ’misplaced supply crates’ scattered across each zone containing zone appropriate materials, allowing Ascended armour crafters to go out into the game world and start gathering resources with certainty in the same way they could with ascended weapons.
Could simply have ‘rubbish piles
It would be… interesting, to run around sifting through trash. Maybe if Skritt become a playable race.

I may be very wrong here because for some sentimental reasons I rarely shoot neutral (yellow) mobs, but I think the droprate is not very high. What I had in mind was something like 2 pieces per 3 mobs or even piece a mob. Wolves, hyenas, wargs and such drop the hides only seldom.

Thats exactly how it works in SWTOR.
