leveling 450 to 500 question...
No, that will only take you to 475.
Although not cheap to craft exotics wrather then buying them, you can salvage for dark matter for slightly less loss from crafting. Sorry but no runes ;-(
From 475-490 craft fine/masterwork/rares for cheap levels.

I’m not sure I understand. All the fine/masterwork/rare level 80 recipes I have previously discovered are all grey. Which means you get no CXP from making them or discovering them. unless there are F/M/R recipes req400+ level to discover. I’d appreciate more detail on that. My goal is to avoid the ecto cost. I didn’t plan on using more ecto than the handful that was needed to get to 450.

I would assume he/she is talking about the bonus from discovering the recipe. So if you already discovered the recipes it wouldn’t help you. On the plus side if snowflakes are coming back this wintersday you can use them to discover their recipes (if you don’t have them already).
When ascended weapons were introduced, certain recipes were reset so that crafters could benefit from discovery again. I haven’t heard, but I assume they will do the same with armor crafts. We’ll likely have to wait until the patch notes to be sure, though.

Yes, that is what I was talking about. Discovering them all would net you a good 10-15 levels, but if you’ve already discovered them then you’re sore out of luck.

Maybe you didn’t see my post. It’s the one immediately above your post.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting#Crafting_experience indicates not exotic items don’t give xp if your crating level is 40 higher than the required crafting level. Which means any rare below required level 410 (when at 450) won’t give xp when discovered. At least that is how I remember it working and always see/read works, unless very recently that changed. Which is why I’m confused.
They still give the bonus crafting XP for discovering something of that level. It’ll show 0+X and award X crafting XP. Not sure if this is a bug or whatever, but it’s been like this for quite a while now and I haven’t seen any official post call it an exploit.

Crafting items 40 levels higher than required doesn’t give experience for subsequent times crafting an item. Not necessarily that you don’t get a discovery bonus but you just don’t get the base item crafting experience. contact me in game if you want a very in depth explanation of how to level your crafting. Name and info is in the signature.

I’mma let y’all finish, but crafting Toxic Sharpening Stones, Maintenance Oils and Focusing Crystals is arguably the cheapest way to get to 500 of all time!

wut wut, are those the recipies that require the spores?

With Oils and Crystals, you might still break even but you are already loosing money on the stones at current TP prices.
For leveling armorcrafting, no additional recipes, using ascended mats at 450, have been released yet.

I did, but they only reset exotic recipes. Not fine/masterwork/rares.

You don’t get exp for crafting them no, but you do for discovery. Like I said, discovering them all will net you a good 10-15 levels.
I like how people are contradicting me with data from websites, when I’ve leveled all my crafts this way for really cheap.

Reading comprehension failure, Wanze? I didn’t say will make you money or break even, I said “cheapest.” If you’re levelling from 450 (or effectively from 460/465) to 500 you’re going to lose money. This way you lose less.
For leveling armorcrafting, no additional recipes, using ascended mats at 450, have been released yet.
The question wasn’t regarding armorcrafting, but weaponcrafting.

Well, i made lots of profit, lvling my weaponsmith from 450-500, crafting destroyer weapons. Granted, i had to invest a bit more while lvling but due to the profitable return I would argue that crafting Toxic Sharpening Stones, Maintenance Oils and Focusing Crystals is not the cheapest way to get to 500 of all time.

Doesn’t give exp after 450 anymore.
Here’s what I did to reach 500 armor smithing, it took about 20 minutes.. assuming you have a crafting booster (which everyone should at this point).
Refined orichalcum ingots to 425
Built 8 inscriptions, built 8 boot linings, built 8 boot panels, combined them, this got me to ~450
Built 8 more inscriptions, built 8 helmet linings, built 8 helmet panels, combined them, this got me to ~475
Built 8 more inscriptions, built 8 glove linings, built 8 glove panels, combined them, that got me to 500
I already had all the materials I needed so that helped some. You can then either sell your combined items or salvage them for dark matter, which is what I did.
That being said I don’t know if this is the cheapest way to get 500… it probably isn’t. But it worked and it was quick.

That definitively works, but that plan requires a hefty pile of T6 materials and Ectos being available to you. I certainly have the gold to buy them, but would like to find a more economical path (thus reading this thread).
