rage quit over jute
I agree that it drops really low, but I just bought a bunch of jute from the Trading Company and I was soon into the next level of crafting and wool drops just fine.
I havent even seen it for sale 1000+ bidders no sellers. All salvageable jute items start at above 40 copper each. 10 times what equivalent items sell for
It takes something like 200 jute to get to 75. my toon has about 35 sliver. less than half of what i would need. I just don;t have that kind of money. Rule one: never buy a game when it first comes out. Never clearer than here
jute is ungettable. I’ve got a level 30+ toon who can’t go outside of level 10 areas or kill anything ut a humanoid because if it doesn;t drop jute it isn’t worth fighting. Spent an entire afternoo, got 2 jute.
This is stupid. I’ll come back if/when it’s fixed
Try making a level 1 and going to the same area. Worked for me for Jute better then killing in that are on my 80.
Are you disassembling all the junk loot that they drop? I get so much jute from breaking items down that my collection hit 250 jute scraps and I started giving it away to guildies.
Never had this problem, from 100% most of the low/starter areas I’ve had around 250-350 jute scraps. Granted I haven’t leveled a tailor crafting character yet I’ve sold quite a bit of it on the TP.
The usually nifty feature — that whatever zone you’re in, most drops are for your level — this works against you if you’re trying for jute.
You need < lvl 15 cloth armor to drop to salvage. So you best do it with a low-level alt.
doesn’t help that so many loot bags that used to give jute (or other useful stuff) now give you pounds and pounds of butter.
Around level 20 or so, I stopped getting Jute altogether. I only get Wool and Cotton now. I basically had to make a new character to collect Jute for me.
I still got some jute from salvaging with my level 80 char. Sometimes it drops low level stuff in the low level area. Sometimes it drops high level stuff at my level. Seems to be a bit mixed.
Only problem I had so far was leather at tier 4 it is I think. And the linen. But still have enough linen. I think 50-60 zone gave me some salvages and the 40-50 was already too low and gave lower tiered material. Need some centaur area… they often dropped salvageable stuff only used to salvage. But the highest centaur area I remember was the humans 35-45 zone.

yes. Well almost all of it. Anything worth 40 copper or less.
I also suggest only using the crappy salvage kits so that you don’t get wool or higher. I have had a bit of a headache with it… but nothing like what the OP states.
so the solution is ump your toon every couple days becase he’s gotten too high level?!
That’s beyond asinine. Somebody needs a good slapping.
I don’t look for jutes, I salvage all the armor I get from loots which nailed me lots of jutes. Even had excess Jutes after finishing that crafting level.
The OP is right that it does need fixing. The whole downleveling system is short-sighted. Also, yes, the Butter Phenomenon needs to be adjusted. They want to rip butter away from vendors and stick it into disgusting centaur bags, fine. But the butter should drop IN ADDITION to the cloth/leather/upgrade items that would have otherwise been in there. Tailors/Leatherworkers were the ones who actually got nerfed, since I’ve got butter spilling out of every pocket, it seems.

Not really. Those types of difficulties occur just because you weren’t lucky enough. There are other people sharing this too, I know, but there are also people who don’t have this issue.
I’d suggest you to continue playing but take a break from crafting, so that your progress won’t stop.

Yeah tailor is definitely the most hated craft in the game. Devs seem to be doing everything they can to keep people away from it. Build an engineer or elementalist with tailor and artificer, and you might s well just eat your own flame thrower.
Buy them from the Trading Post?
So it’s not just me who’s been getting enough butter to lube up the entire Flame Legion?

the butter drops are epic as heck
Do all 5 starting zones. Come out with enough Jute to level Tailoring AND Leatherworking and still have some left over. Seriously. I did all 5 starting zones and was level 35 before I set foot in a 15+ zone. Gives you a nice boost on the rest of your leveling, and all the crafting materials for getting to 75 in all crafting professions.
Dont know if this has been said or not but jute is easy to get. Get yourself a salvage kit. Then go kill human’s. Break down all the light armor you get. You will have a ton of jute fairly fast.
well, those who like to play alts are making bank on jute
gather teen-level cloth drops, salvage, post to TP, go collect $$
either join em or pay them off

After reading the thread I created an alt today name Jute monkey version b. When he gets high enough level that hes not getting jute I kill him and make a new one.
If you aren’t getting 100+ jute per starting zone cleared you are doing something wrong. Like vendoring the things you are supposed to salvage for jute.
Jute? One area – Queensdale – Beggar Borrow be sure to bring a friend or two.

I swear they’re adding a “Paula Deen” achievement.
I helped my friend yesterday (lvl 18) got 76 jute/hour without even trying to get it. Because I don’t need it.
Problem is not cloth/ore. Fine(blue) mats are. Venom sacks, blood, fangs etc.
The only problematic cloth is Gossamer.
Forget jute.. give me some leather.

Tier 5 Bloods,Fangs and Large Bones can be found in Frostgorge Mobs.
Venoms are plenty in orr specially grubs. You must have atleast 50+mf to get most of it.

Or you guys could concentrate on playing the game instead. Crafting isnt essential in any way. I completed the entire game without even touching crafting. And you know what? I had tons of jute afterwards. And you get exactly what you need from completing missions. Armor, weapons, accessories..its all given to you. You guys are starting in the wrong end, wake up. play through the game and start working on crafting in the later stages of the game.
If you want leather or clothc materials… you have to salvage your medium and light armor that you get. Heavy armor gives you ores and if you are mining all the rocks feel free to sell those if you wish… But I carry 5-6 basic salvage kits around with me everywhere… that’s 125-150 salvages, and use them on every light/medium armor piece that I get that I don’t need to wear. If i wear it, I salvage the one i just took off.
I have mroe then enough jute atm and i only have a level 67 char, thats it, just the one. I leveled leather crafting and that used a lot of cloth materials as well, yet my next char is going to be, and atrificer/tailor combo elementalist heh. currently jeweler/leather combo ranger.
Salvaging is the key as getting the cloth/leather materials from straight drops… Yeah… good luck. Also rememebr to salvage your salvage items. The only thing I sell to shops is, heavy armor… and whatever sells when I hit the sell junk button. I used tos salvage heavy armor, but I have way to many ores and I run around mining all the rocks anyways.
I was trying to deal with the Jute issue before the Trading Post came up. I also stuck to low-level zones, trying to farm it. I even started an alt to deal with it. I got the Jute I needed, went to the next zone. Guess what. Jute was more common and Wool in the 15-25 zone. D’oh! Jute seems like a big issue until you realise it is a rather common drop across the game. I still get it at lvl40+. Now, the low-level rare materials are a different story. You rarely see them outside the 1-15 zones.
I’ve had more trouble with wool than jute, and back then there was no TP either…what I would suggest is salvaging each and everything you get, be it greens, blues, or otherwise useless salvage items. You won’t be rolling in cash as a result, but that’s an active decision you’re making: sacrificing money for crafting. You’ll have enough to repair and waypoint from vendoring junk and event gold. This will pretty much solve your mats problems if you stick with this philosophy, no matter what level (except max level, which is when you’ll be trying to make more money instead of salvaging). As someone mentioned earlier, the bottleneck then becomes fine crafting materials (scales, venom sacs etc).

Cocaine is a hell of a drug! xD
Since when crafting is not a part of the game?

Oh really?
What if my idea of playing the game is outfitting my main in a way I like?
What if I really enjoy crafting? I now have to rush to 80 so I can enjoy something that I could be doing from lvl1?
Your statement makes no sense.
That said the jute thing is killing me- I do salvage, I know that lower lvls get more drops in low lvl areas- hell my Ele is lvl 12 just from collecting jute and blood, claws etc for my main!
This is not an ideal situation and it makes the tailor profession very difficult since both of our main ingredients rely on drops- not harvesting.
I am struggling at lvl 99 tailor now and wool is better than jute but I still want to make the Devout set that I have never been able to get enough materials for. As it is if I use it on my main at all (lvl 40) I will have to transmute it.
Good luck finding enough jute to make the set for an alt!
It takes all the fun out of making cool stuff for your characters and I find it impossible to keep my crafting lvl on par with my character lvl.
Some one on these forums suggested the possibility that we could farm jute, cotton etc from plants- this is the best solution I have heard yet, because everything else is just a work around.

Well how much jute do you really need? Are you trying to make money selling it in the TP?

nope. I got one toon with tailor/artificer and another with armor crafter. I’m just trying to get past lvl 75 with them so I don’t have to deal with jute anymore. The low level jute monkey toon is working though. He does nothing but sit in caves killing bandits trying to avoid gaining xp. I just hope I don;t have to do this for all the mats.
Use Crude Salvage Kits you won’t get anything but the lowest level mats
I have found it more efficient to mine copper, sell it, and then buy jute, ymmv.
I agree they need to increase the jute drop, I also salvage some light armor into jute but they don’t drop much either. They need also to increase the drop rate of leather too but Jute more than leather. I can’t get my Leather worker crafting skill up cause of low drop rates and I refuse to buy off of a broker I prefer to get on my own. So just call me cheap skate it doesn’t bother me.
Make an alt, buy tons of lvl 1 cloth armor and salvage.
Each armor piece should give you 1-3 scraps at the cost of a few copper.

Thanks =) Looks like I’ll start on the thief immediateleh :D
I’m leveling an armorsmith, weaponsmith and leathersmith at the same time. All 3 are up to 125-ish or so as I only play part time. And all of them use jute. Its tough to keep them supplied, but certainly doable. Break everything down and make an alt to harvest the low level areas.
Its going to take some time to level them all up. But so what? Game is still new outa the box.

You think Jute is bad? You’re going to have a blast farming Gossamer
It was never broken to begin with. GW2 has this “farming wall” where after a while if it detects that you’ve been doing something over and over again the drops will plummet. So since it sounds like you were killing nothing but humanoids it took that as you farming them for jute. Generally if you go do something else for a while and come back later it will have reset. I’ve also noticed that a character that farms won’t have the system reset simply by changing characters. It has to be the same one that was doing the farming. Like others have said though you can always make another character and have them run low level areas for it. After a while you won’t even need jute because you’ll have moved on to the next tier. Jute is easy to get, its the other things like blood, scales, claws, etc… that are a pain.
