a few patches ago i would have said it was a bad buy but with the recent patch of acc mf and also ascended crafting its become a boon but current gems/gold exchange you would probably have to salvage thousands of items b4 you see profit which in the long run is definite

I agree that this lil machine is pretty convient and I’m glad I decided to pick one up. It’s account bound so your alts can use it too. When I feel like doing map completion or story on an alt I’ll place the salvage-o in the bank with my main and pick it up on the alt. I don’t feel that it’s that far out of my way considering all the bag space I save by constantly salvaging.

This wonderful item is hard to beat for convenience: when you are farming Orr, Scarlet events or doing fractals/dungeons, you will never run out of salvage kits and it only takes one bag slot. So no problem anymore of your bags getting full and the vendor being too far away. And with the increased need to salvage (for luck score boosts) it is a really welcome tool.

If you convert gold to gems to buy it, no, it will never be a good financial investment: even the most optimistic calculations show it will take years for you to recoup the investment, but if you want maximum convenience and do not mind buying it with real money (i.e. flashing the credit card for gems) it is certainly worth it for the significant increase in gamelife-quality.

(and in the large scheme of things: the 7.50 EUR I paid are much less than the monthly subscription to other MMOs out there, but this item will last me as long as I am playing GW2)

so… 800 gems at 5g/100 gems = 40g
it saves 0.52c per salvage over basic SK
that means it will take 769,231 salvages to get back your purchase price.
it has been estimated that getting to 300% mf will require around 4.2 million luck.
you get about 10 luck per fine item you salvage, so that’s 420,000 salvages. a pretty significant percent of the way to that 769k.

The salvage kit was never about a financial savings, for me at least. The costs of salvage kits is petty to most.

The true benefit is bag space gained from not carrying several kits around and bag space gained from being able to clear your inventory without a visit to town. I’m able to run back to back dungeons/fractals with out having to stop the party to clear bags or beg a team member for a merchant. When I ride the champ train the salvage-o buys me a ticket that doesn’t stop when till I want it to stop. And my low level alts have no pressure to upgrade bags at their current stage cause they always have room to spare.

Though the numbers in the tool tip seem low compared to a masters or bl kit I am able to consistently get elder wood logs and mithril (lvl80 blues/green) which I upgrade for 500 crafting. Doing so has been a great savings considering the increased costs of ancient wood and orichalcum. Plus, I don’t have to take any more time out of my day to try to find nodes here and there.

The value of this salvage-o-matic isn’t in monitary gain and one would be foolish to assume so. See it as an investment for inventory piece of mind and quality of life.

If you bought it for convenience, then it works perfectly as-is. If you have the infinite gathering tools as well, then you really don’t need to worry about “do I need to buy any…” stops.

It’s also very generous of ANet to make it account-bound; unlike the tools. Appreciate that fact, before continuously wanting even more.

In the very long run you’ll make your gold back and more, but people mainly buy it for the convenience of not having to go out of their way to buy salvage kits or taking up 10, sometimes 20 bag spaces like I’ve done in the past. More spaces equals more stuff to salvage which speeds up the process of you earning your gold back.

I’m thoroughly pleased with mine!

It’s all about the convienience of never running out of salvage kits, always being able to slavage on the fly, and all at a cost of only one inventory space. If you do the Frostgorge Champ farm you’ll easily understand how nice this item can be.

Now if I just could get that permanent merchant, black lion trader, bank access, mystic forge conduit and portable crafting stations I’d never had to go to LA again.
