wood to planks
Because they look at the Trading Post, and they see millions of wood for sale, and they go hmm, what do? Oh, we can just bump up the materials requirements.

But at the stupid prices people are selling logs I for one will not buy a single log from there so its a loose loose situation for everyone
Wood is everywhere, though. And there aren’t that many recipes that use a lot.
Even with both a huntsman and an artificer I find I have surplus wood. I do hit every tree I see when I’m doing a zone.
Wow, 4, really? Bad idea. 3 was bad, 2 was fine. If this trend continues in all the other crafting refinement recipes, expect an extraordinarily negative response, ArenaNet.
The funniest thing to me is that yesterday wood could be bought for ~22c each, but planks were selling for 5c. I’m guessing the price was driven down by people who just used wood to skill up and didn’t use all their planks?
The problem with this model is that they are artificially upping the demmand for those who craft to make use of the excessive supply being created for those who don’t.
If gathering had a greater cost associated with it (both time and money) this would not be an issue. For example, if a top tier Harvesting Axe cost 1G and havesting 3 logs took 30 seconds, this problem would go away.
As it is now, what they are doing is making it so crafters cannot be self-sustaining without a time-sink or buying gems. It may be that this is good for the overall economy from a trade perspective…time will tell, but increasing resource requirements by 100% is pretty steep.
