There’s a separate entrance for each candidate’s trial. You do not need to be representing them. Kiel’s entrance is next to her by the edge railing. Gnash’s entrance is behind him next to a house.

I know that. I’m suggesting there’s an bug behind the scene that doesn’t separate them. I do recall my progress for one candidate’s trial transferring to the other since I was able to choose a tier other than the first one when I had never been to the trial for the candidate yet.

Some people are stating that if you do tier 3 followed by tier 4 in the same instance, you’ll get credit. It’s likely thakittens just tier 4 that is bugged. How many people who cannot get credit have completed it for the other candidate?

Kasaeva, someone else here in the forum told me he had to beat T3 and T4 in the SAME SITTING too. So I went and beat T3 again before beating T4 my third time and sure enough it worked! For anyone who is having the problem, make sure you beat T3 and then T4 without leaving the instance. It’s the only thing that worked for me.

People are saying to run away so that the 20 mobs disengage from you but they don’t return to their spot they follow me around to the other side. Trying to get out of combat to get my health to restore means that the plunderers get the loot. All the “tricks” don’t work. I want to see a post-patch video, not declarations of “yeah I’ve done it on every class no big deal”.

Also reiterating that even if it’s possible, it’s only because it’s being exploited a different way, by disengaging and praying that the enemies reset their positions. There is no way to actually FIGHT the enemies and kill plunderers. All you are doing is avoiding them. If you enter the middle “kill zone” you die instantly. Very poorly designed, not fun, and unfair. Every person’s achievement should have been reset when it was patched. If it is truly possible then people who have beat it using “skill” should have no problems doing it again.

This indeed. Just tried it multiple times on my engineer, berserker FT build, nope. I fail around the 2min mark because I have to get out there to kill plunderers otherwise the event fails>pull mobs>wont return. This is beyond ridiculous and proves the point that was proven long ago, but now from personal experience, that this is a ridiculous encounter. The only way is by exploiting and using a class/build with high burst damage. I can’t even play the build I like.

actually for me Candidate trials would be awesome…..
If plunderers and the whole treasure thing would be removed – just killing massive amount of difficult to defeat enemies…
and maybe that control circle…
or 3 of control circles – everything would be better than those plunderers…

It doesn’t escalate way to much, people simply doesn’t know how to play this game properly. As for a note, don’t go in with 4 zerker warriors and 1 mesmer.

Not bad indeed, however even with 5 people, it seems the limit is still bronze. I would think the ideal group to do this with any hope for silver/gold is a 3 warrior/1 guard/1 mesmer group. 3 warriors for high dps, guardian for the pulls, and the mesmer for TW/pulls/SoI

I soloed T4 on a zerker Ranger earlier today, with 1000 treasure left. Sword is your main source of damage, Axe #4 is used to pull the plunderers on the right and Shortbow is your back-up weapon. Use Muddy Terrain and Spike Trap to buy you some extra time. It’s pretty much the same method as shown here , but without the stealth. You can use a Longbow if that’s what you prefer, but the Shortbow daze proved itself to be very useful.

Just finished another 30 or so runs tonight/got another 10 people or so through the event.

A. Some classes have a clear advantage.

B. 30+ runs tonight/yesterday, all 3 loot bags, 0 weapon skin drops, can we get an official drop rate here? I’m not sure if this is just bad RNG luck or if they’re really supposed to be THAT rare.

(in ~200 runs I’ve seen 2 skins drop)

edit: both of which were in the first 100 or so runs.

Has anyone gotten gold on any tier? I’ve tried to farm tier 2 a number of times. The gold condition says to kill 50. My highest total was 57 but they still gave me silver for it. :/

I get the concept of it, as far as rewards go, it works, but tying achievement points to it and not being able to complete it sucks. I love the fact it is hard, but under stand, when you kill a plunderer, more non plunderers spawn, so if I am going for bare minimum, I have to not only need Tanky, but deal extreme DPS, because so by the time I have 8 plunderers killed, Ive got like 18 mobs on me.

Really, it should work like this, Every time you kill a plunderer guard, 2 should pop up, that’s for those going for loot and rewards, those going merely for achievements, it should be more about sustaining while keeping plunderers dead.

Currently, it’s impossible for all but a small percentage of folks.

I took the advice of some early poster on my warrior. I put on full zerker gear, equipped a rifle in one hand, hammer in the other. Went with bolas, invulnerability, quickness and signet as elite and nuked the sabotagers as they came from the mortar side. When mortar npcs spawned I used the hammer to knock them back, furthermore I could use the hammer to intercept and interrupt any sabotager that nearly managed to succesfully steal the treasure. I did both kiel and evon’s t4 this way and it worked like a charm. You gotta make sure the veterans stay away though, so in case you aggro on while fighting a saboteur you run back behind the rocks near the mortars and go back when they turn around.

So after many attempts and a trait respec to 30/30/0/0/10, I was finally able to solo Evon Tier 4 today on my thief.

However, the Living Story achievement still did not give me credit.

Pretty disgusted.
Although I did have 1000 left at the end, I am not good enough to complete it consistently to do Tier 3 and Tier 4 in series which is the completely kittened workaround I have seen mentioned.

For future reference ArenaNet, this is how wave defense is supposed to work:

1. The timer counts UP, not DOWN. Finishing waves faster grants better rewards.
2. There is a CD from the time the last enemy dies and the next wave starts (waves CANNOT overlap).
3. Dead foes drop resources that can be used to bolster your defense for the next wave.

Candidate Trials would benefit from a significant redesign to make them fun instead of boring/aggravating.

Difficulty – From the beginning, we wanted to create an event that would truly test player’s abilities to survive, whether solo or in groups. That’s when we came up with the concept of the [Challenge Event]. We wanted to create an event where it was easy to get bronze participation, moderately challenging to achieve silver, and difficult to get gold, and to provide an escalating difficulty curve by making use of tiers that got progressively harder, and progressively harder again with groups. We knew that this would not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we also know that there are many players who are eager to challenge themselves in this way, and we stand by the decision to include content for those players. We made sure to make the lower tiers as accessible for all players and play styles, and the upper tiers (III and IV) a serious challenge! Now, there’s hard and then there’s impossible. I can assure you that completing Tier IV with a group is absolutely possible, but it’s not in any way easy, or even feasible for an uncoordinated group. It requires the utmost concentration and communication, and so our expectation from the beginning was that only a small number of groups would accept the challenge, and even fewer would succeed. I’ve been impressed by the many different methods players are finding to solo Tier IV (Ii’s a feat even I myself have yet to achieve) but I’m just as eager to see what groups come up with to overcome this challenge!

Thanks for your response. I would like to ask if anyone in your test team was able to beat Tier 4 solo/group? and how many attempts it took took them?

I hope that you know the Mobs in the Tier 4 group turn into champions. That means 5 players are against 5 champions while trying to save the supply and dodging the bombs. Is this really your definition of making something challenging in a living story? To me it sounds like a lazy way to say we listened and wanted to challenge the players by spamming the spawn rate of the mobs and increasing the mobs health by a large magnitude.

If a player wants to challenge themselves and let them try high level fractals or add new mob levels for dungeons. But please keep this non-sense un-tested challenges out of the living story.

For your information, I also attempted to do trial 4 solo with my DPS warrior and after 10 failed attempts I decided that it is not worth the time…

Last but not least, this trial could be done easily on the first day by not aggro’ing the mobs and standing on the beach, But then you went ahead and patched it so it couldn’t be beaten anymore. Don’t you think the achievement should have reset to keep it fair between all the players?

Lazily overpowered (anyone can add x more units and + hp) and repeated content that came about as a “fix” after the fact leaves a really bad aftertaste. Not to mention the rate at which these events cycle there is no reasonable way to comfortably attempt it. We didn’t all roll the golden boy classes (for those that say they can solo it), unfortunately.

The fast pace of it all will produce burnout sooner rather than later. I for one am beginning to feel worn out by it all; crushing failure is not a good motivator either, lol. Also, is it just me or the “kill 10 rats” achievements have been increasing in size over each release? As far as time required is concerned at least. 2,500 points anyone?

I have the same problem, I am a big Fan of living story, but this one didn’t get me. The achievements are either easy like finish a daily while representing or do a dungeon run to make 2500 points which took me 6 hours of playing a game I didn’t really enjoy. And unlike the sanctum sprint minigame which I did for fun, I (and a couple of my friends) didn’t do this one for fun, we did it for the achievements points.

This trial would have made a great SPVP map.

But the trial itself caters to DPS groups, I shouldn’t need to reroll my specs and weapons to be able to contend, and I hate when folks get to carry me through something, because my preferred playstyle is not high dps.

the trials are supposed to be hard, but you not only battle a clock, but you battle plunderers from taking the loot, and every multiples guards, yeah, that sounds pretty much like every class versitility is working properly.

I am not really complaining about it, what it’s 10 or 20 achievement points and 0 free skins for me for not doing it.

Yeah, I believe they should have made us turn into an NPC with the right tools, and left it hard, but at least, if we failed, its not because of spec.

Everything else was decent, and probably got some of us to do what intended purpose was. IE: Fractals, Dungeons

Right now I even fight to finish up evons meta for teh mini but really trying to finish some of these achievements especially t4 is never gonig to happen, I am not going waste a respec and buy whole new gear set to gear my necro, guardian or mesmer to try to do this solo or duo so I am not going to try anymore.. I am fast approaching burnout on this biweekly living story it feels like every new living story is just another grind without meaning while the devs continue to add more grind or ramping up while they are at it.

How can you protest by not doing something they DO NOT want you to do?

They have already stated they wanted it to be impossible for most people.

All the people that did it before they “fixed” it was a ‘mistake’. They just keep the reward because who cares if people who exploit bugs get rewards compared to those who do not?

The message here is: “Exploit any bug and faulty mechanic as much as you can before it’s too late, you will not lose anything when they fix the bugs, and you will get stuff that those who do not exploit bugs will not get”.

SUGGEST-A-TRON says:
PAY—ONCE—UNLOCKS—ARE—ALWAYS—BETTER.
No exceptions!

Same here. I’ve just accepted that this is the start of the uncompleted LS achievement panels, which really urks me. But I’m too kittened at the kitten thing to even try it anymore. Besides the difficulty, we also have to deal with only being able to try it on three servers only. I just hope that I’ll forget eventually about these two panels and their one incomplete achievement (on each).

Rather than make a whole new thread, and I hope Anet is still reading this thread, why the kitten do we have to be all on the same server to do this kitten minigame/dungeon/whatever you call it? Why wasn’t it like the dungeons, where we just had to be in the same map and it would start?

Well I finally got Tier 4 Kiel last night thanks to a very crafty thief. I’ll be trying to do Gnash this week as well. That being said I just want to say the event was poorly implemented, buggy, and overall not much fun. Hopefully we won’t see an activity this unbalanced again. I know Anet is great with listening to their fans and hopefully they saw this thread and took it to heart. This is the kind of thing we don’t want to see again. What happened to patches like Flame and Frost that were spread over weeks with bits unlocking at a time and was very refined and fun and interesting? I just feel like these patches are more and more being shoved out the door to keep us sated. Come on guys, I know your better than this.

just done t4 on my mesmer… mostly green zerker gear (3k power, 50% crit chance, 55% crit damage)
my build:
gs + sword/pistol – blink/signet of domination/veil/mass invisibility
20 domination (III + X)
25 dueling (II + IX)
25 inspiration (just for the 15% damage on phantasm)

So if I want to try soloing t3/4 (of both) as a warrior or guardian whats the best way to do it? I keep hearing zerker stuff (which I guess I could buy a set of greens), but what weapons/traits should I use?

Bump for publicity. This was poor design. Dont’ design casual achievements on hardcore content. Don’t build a game type that’s counter to how it’s optimally played (kill things when the best thing is to avoid things?). Make it possible to at least kill things on the highest level—nope.

I just finished both my T4 trials, after many many different strats and classes. The only one I had success with was my Thief.

Full Berserker, All Exotics, D/D, Build is the picture, along with the skills

What I did was I stood next to the left portal. Usually you will get 5-7 kills at that portal from the start. Then a plunderer will spawn at the far right portal. I did not worry about him right now because chances are I would have agroed. Instead I stayed and killed any plunders that spawned between the Left and Middle while I waiting for the Right plunderer to return. When he gets close to his portal, I would start heading in range for Pull. I would pull him before he threw the bag, then kill him. After, I would kill any returning plunders and continue to wait around the Left portal. I never ventured out, not even if it ment loseing supplies. I always pulled the Right plunderer on his return, not on his way out. It was more benificial to kill the others as they spawned and the Right when it returned.

As always, I broke agro if I got any, again, even if it ment loseing supplies.
