Dear ArenaNet,

Tier 4 Candidate Trials are a profoundly unfun event. I think enough has been written about why this is so, so I will not go further into it.

I’ve attempted it (solo – the easiest way) dozens of times. And I’ve succeeded exactly once, when everything (spawns, crits at the right time) was just right. By the skin of my teeth.

Unfortunately, because of the bug with the Achievements, I was not given credit, even though I had completed tiers 1-3.

I was vaguely annoyed, but I think I reacted in a sensible manner. I used the in-game tool to report the bug, attaching an in-game screenshot with that tool that shows beyond any doubt that I had completed the event.

All that I asked was for your support team to check the issue and grant me the bugged Achievement once it was clear I had completed the content. In my experience with other MMOs support teams are quite responsive with this kind of thing. I care little for Aetherized skins but the Achievement is important to me because – hey – it was a real achievement to me. I did after all successfully complete the content.

I have not received a response yet (it’s only been two days), but being unfamiliar with GW2 in-game support I must ask: Is this request so unreasonable? Can I expect a retroactive fix, or will this be a case of tuff stuff, you shoulda succeeded at the super-difficult event after we fixed the Achievement bug you did not know about?

Do not post petitions, “I demand an answer” threads, conspiracy threads, or comments about circumventing the rules.

And if you’re succeeding by the skin of your teeth, you can alwys try a different strategy. I’ve been able to finish it with ease multiple times.

Interesting answer. To clarify:

I use the word ArenaNet because that’s just the name of the company.
I have not named any staff member.
I find my petition quite reasonably framed, not a demand.
I do not mention conspiracy anywhere. Nor do I recommend circumventing the rules.

I just want to know if customer support does these kind of retroactive fixes or not. Other games do, but as this is the first issue in GW2 since launch that upset me personally enough to contact support, I simply don’t know if it works that way.

As for retrying, I have been. It’s just very unfun to keep reattempting something I know I should not have to. If you are succeeding with ease after the patch you are simply a better player than I.

@OP – just making sure, you have to complete T1, T2, T3, then T4 all for the same candidate, i.e. Kiel T1 – 4 or Evon T1 – 4, they can’t mix. nor can you go do T1, T2, T3 then back to T2 to help a friend and go do T4.

though, assuming you know this and did this, then it is indeed a bug and that’s super unfortunate. : (((

i would take this to the support forum threads though and try your luck there! most times i’ve had to contact ANet support, they’ve been reasonably fast and provided good service.

though, in terms of retroactively rewarding things or achievements, even if caused by bugs, i want to say your chances might be slim. but again, go try the support forums! highlight your ticket there and best of luck.

Another bug is the one where NPC just sits there and does absolutely nothing to help, and is also completely invulnerable and ignored by the mobs. This one happens after you fail and go for another attempt.

It’s possible to mix and match, but it’s a bit awkward.
If you do Tier 2, it will set Direct Support to 1/2. You must then do Tier 2 again to complete Direct Support. The same occurs when doing Tier 4 instead of Tier 3.

It is bugged plain and simple.

Completed Tier 4 Evon after completing and receiving credit for Tier 3 two days earlier. All trials since then were only Tier 4 attempts. No credit given for the Tier 4 in Living Story.

This whole achievement has been complete kitten on so many levels.

The OP’s post is completely reasonable and he is not the only one in the same situation.

Do tier 3 and tier 4 in the same instance. You’ll get credit.

I am aware of this “work around”.

However like the OP, I also completed by the skin of my teeth. Having to then complete it a second time while wasting time going back to Tier 3 (assuming this fix even works) is utter bullkitten. Not to mention that due to the luck nature of spawn locations and random aggro mechanics, completing twice in sequence and in the same session is substantially more difficult than the single Tier once achievement.
