Q:
Did voting end early
A:
yeah the problem was I didn’t see the time here https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/july-23-2013/ So I thought that I had til the end of the day.
I just had logged into the game and was switching toons gathering all my support tokens into one spot so I could drop them in all at once and I got the email before I could finish.
I have 150 double votes for Evon Gnashblade, no where did I read our see about votes ending already, that sort of annoys me. They even didnt represent my race of Asuran
- Disgruntled and unrepresented Asuran.
No it did not end early. It ended at exactly the time they said it would end.
11:00 Server time.

Yeah, they handled this poorly.
There should have been an in game mail this weekend, warning folks when voting would end.
Yeah, they handled this poorly.
They always do….
They should’ve posted the end time much more prominently. The main page for Cutthroat Politics only says August 5th, and the wiki page for Cutthroat Politics (as well as the one for the support tokens) doesn’t mention anything other than August 5th as well. The actual end time is buried on a tips page.
I was voting for Kiel anyway, but it would’ve been nice to know that I should’ve traded my tokens in before today. This also seems to be a habit—is it really so difficult to post the actual end time right on the main info page for the event on the main site and/or the wiki?
It’s not like any of your votes really mattered anyway. ArenaNet knew what they were doing.
Tips page?
No it was written quite clearly in the patch notes.
They also posted about it on these forums, on facebook and on twitter earlier today.

Well I sure as hell didn’t know… got over 200 support tokens for Evon. Guess I just gotta trash them now. THANKS, Anet!

Yeah don’t see that on FB, I don’t twitter so I miss that as well.
I did read the update notes and saw the early end-of-voting date, yet 2 weeks later I’d forgotten and assumed voting would end with the new patch. Now I’ve got 300 “bricked” Support Tokens and a pile of sadness. Oh well…
I don’t blame Anet that I forgot, but an in-game reminder would have been nice. They do send mail for everything else possible ;P
Well, another Major Fail for Anet.
From the Sticky at the top of this sub Forum —-————-
Here is the GW2 wiki page for the Cutthroat Politics release. The release begins on July 23rd and ends on August 6th. The election itself ends on August 5th.
From the Wiki page —-———————
Regardless of the winner, the election will result in a rotating schedule of previously available activities (Southsun Survival, Sanctum Sprint, Crab Toss, and Keg Brawl) as well as fractal versions of Molten Facility and Aetherblade Retreat later in the year. The election will only be available from July 23rd to August 5th, after which no more votes will be accepted.

Support Your Candidate – July 23 to August 5
Evon Gnashblade and Ellen Kiel are trying to work out a trade agreement with the Zephyr Sanctum in order to help them secure a spot on the Captain’s Council of Lion’s Arch. Use Support Tokens and coins to help out your candidate of choice!
IF you guess the correct link to read and drill down in the Link Gummy used, you Finally get the Correct Time the “Polls” close.

Why was this so hard to find? Why, for the sweet sake of ‘insert favorite called upon’, was a simple in game email that could not be missed not sent out with this Critical information?
Isn’t it Obvious that many player with half a brain would Horde the Tokens to use all at once with a Vote Doubler? And that the obvious day for those players to vote would be the Final Day when they had the Most Tokens to Double?? Does your marketing team ever send out Elementary Advice to the rest of the teams?
At 5 pm August 5th, my time, fully expecting to easily cast my votes, I logged in planning to use my 300+ tokens with a vote doubler package for Ellen. Yes she had a big lead, so what? Anybody that has ever worked real elections, or done any auction buying for that matter knows about the surprise last minute factor. (Every time gems are spent you make money or are closer to making money, or do you actually care?) So I saved my gems at least. Even more Comical is that the tokens may still be purchased for cash from the token vendor. I bought one just to be sure. (Consumer Fraud in the real world.)
Really guys, this is just so lame. My spouse writes/edits copy for and is the principal proof reader of almost all advertising for, a multi-billion dollar retailer. If she let communications and promotions as poorly done as this get out, she would probably be escorted from the building and might be named in the class action lawsuits angry consumers would file. You will never know how many support packages you would have sold if this information had been properly communicated. A mere 2,000 players with 500 doubled votes (example me 349 tokens and I could easily buy a few more) would be a 2,000,000 vote swing.
Kiel was chosen as the victor weeks ago. All of the clues are presented in the web sight’s art and in the developer comments and interviews. The winner was presented to the community long before a single vote was ever cast.
Others saw this, as did I. Do you know how many votes I cast during the event? None. Not a single support token, did I consume. The entire election was faux, a front, a farce, a plebiscite of placebo all meant to placate the player base.
Sucks, I did not get to vote. I know it is my fault for waiting so long and I did not see the time posted, but I wish the time could have been displayed more prominently.
Read Wingless, a fantasy comic about a knight’s journey, here!
Why did people wait until the last minute to vote anyway? I mean.. this is an MMO. And everyone playing MMOs knows they eventually have to deal with everything ranging from unexpected emergency downtime to at-home connection/computing issues. To wait until the very last second to cast your vote (when there was absolutely no advantage in waiting at all) is just risky and foolish.
Anyway, warning was provided from the start:

That is what I saw which is decieving.
It’s like watching a real election- the same complaints, the same rage when you lose.
Congrats Anet- I think you got people to care more about these candidates than they did about the real world election they probably didn’t vote for.

See, I see a statement like “Support Your Candidate – July 23 to August 5” and my first question is “So.. is that up to and including all of August 4th? Or does it extend all the way through the 5th? Or only until the evening of the 5th when the Daily changes and dungeons reset, or what?”
And my next action is to find an accurate answer.

I understand not everyone reads these things, but it is ALWAYS good to at least check through quick for end times. They did give a specific time, they didn’t do the greatest job of making it known to everyone, but you could easily find it if you clicked links on the main GW2 page that had to do with the event.
