First of all, fractals as we know them now are a bit of a chore. Hardly anyone goes into them and thinks “Oh, I really enjoy doing these”, especially when it comes to the dredge. Additionaly, fractals as we know them also do not tell an epic story. Were they to tell an epic story, they would have to be long or be a giant cutscene. How many of you really want a new fractal that will be a (lot) longer than the current ones? Especially once the novelty wears off it will be nothing but a boring chore and another one for your “please don’t let it be this one” list when you’re facing the loading screen.

People are overhyping Abbadon far too much. And even if Evon manages to win, I will bathe in the salty tears from all the QQ when the fractal will be the inevitable disappointment. And it will be a disappointment. Either the fractal will be long and tell an amazing story but you don’t want to replay it (often) because it takes too long. Or it will be of average length and fail to tell the epic story so many of you are picturing over gods throwing a fit.

Either way, you will lose.

Quite a few people still do fractals. I’m not sure what you’re really talking about. Obviously they aren’t for everyone and you personally find them a chore. But the fractal that ends up being made is important to a lot of people.

It may not be relevant to you, which is fine. It is, however, relevant to a lot of other people. Those of us that actually enjoy fractals win no matter what. We’re getting new fractals. It really just comes down to which one we really want to have made. Both sound like they have a lot of potential. I’m not going to throw a fit or cry about it if the one I want isn’t the one that wins. I’m just looking forward to new fractals.

I still do FOTM (30+ level on both chars), I still enjoy them and I am looking for a new fractal. Id rather see Abaddon fractal but if Kiel wins I will do Reactor aswell.

If you dont like FOTM.. thats fine but that doesnt mean that no one else likes it aswell.

I actully enjoy doing fractals ( I agree on dredge on however ).

The thing is:
- We have no idea how will the look. Imagine an abaddon fractal that’s even more annoying than dredge? Same goes for traumanova one.
- Story telling in fractals is indeed nothing special ( if there even is any story telling ).

And either way – I win, since I’ll be happy with both of them.

I’m seriously sick of people telling others “the truth” about this and that. Stop making these pointless threads.

/ anyhow, I’ll split my votes 50/50

But…but…opinions are facts! Oh wait…

I’ve never thought that the story element was ever really intended to be the point of fractals anyway. They’re intended to show snippets of history and realities while providing a scaling challenge for players that get deep enough into them.

I enjoy doing the Fractals. The only one I cuss over is Uncategorized. That Harpy knockdown with indicator rings that are larger than the platform you are on make me want to punch my Parakeets.

My favorite is Cliffside. I like the urgency of running with the hammer from point to point, you cant sleep on the boss (unless he is bugged), and the Colossus is awesome. I hope we eventually get some lore for him.

Higher level Fractals are nice, challenging content if you get a group that prefers to actually play through them instead of attempting every little glitch or loop-hole they have heard of. And they are one of the few things in the game where you can actually see the group synergizing with each other over the course of the run.

Whoever wins, more fractals in the rotation means less repetition for those that do multiple runs a day. Sounds like a win for players and OP being needlessly cynical.

Yes, people still do fractals, and frequently as well. I am one of those. The point is, most of us run fractals for the rewards and ahve a preference for the shorter ones. The expectation many have is that the new fractal, especially the Abbadon one, will be full of lore and interesting facts. And the way the current fractals are set up, there is no room for that. If the new fractal will be significantly different (longer), then it will annoy many players farming them for rewards.

The point is that a lot of people will get disappointed, especially in the long run.

I’m seriously sick of people telling others “the truth” about this and that. Stop making these pointless threads.

I ust thought it was a fairly logical analysis. And a part that hasn’t been covered a lot because the shouty kids keep screaming “BUT IT IS ABOUT GODS!1!!oneoen!”.

I’ve never thought that the story element was ever really intended to be the point of fractals anyway. They’re intended to show snippets of history and realities while providing a scaling challenge for players that get deep enough into them.

Which will undoubtedly cause a lot of QQ among the lore zealots who voted for a specific candidate with unrealistic expectations. The Ascalon fractal does tell a story, but it’s hardly deep. Would one of the new fractals have the same depth, how many voters would truly be happy?

Some people, myself included, just think the Abaddon fractal would be cool to see. It’s a part of Tyrian history we’ve heard about but never seen. Will it be deep with story and meaning? Probably not. That isn’t really the point of fractals. Most people that do them would surely know that by now. Or so I’d think.

If it wins, it wins and it’ll hopefully be a fun addition to the existing fractals. If it doesn’t win, then the alternative should be interesting too. People will complain about everything and anything regardless of the quality of the content. ArenaNet is really in a lose-lose situation when it comes to that. All they can really do is make the best content they have the resources to make. Both fractals have the potential to be awesome. People have unreasonable expectations for a lot of things. Those people will be disappointed no matter what.

I’m just looking forward to Fractals of the Mists getting expanded. My only expectation is that there will be new fractals to play. Anything else related to that is simply a bonus.

I enjoy fractals, that’s the only reason I do them.
