Not saying that Guildmag didn’t do a fine job (heck, they were mostly all of the GW stuff I could access when I was on deployment), but it’s fan fiction.

While the article is written in RP, and this part is actually the interest of the author himself, I wouldn’t say our articles are all fan fiction. Most things stated in our magazine can be retraced ingame. There is, however, the fact that connections made between things found ingame might turn out to not be correct or not the path that the ArenaNet folks themselves will take in the future.
That said, if you’re looking for 100% true (new) facts, check out the interview.
I wrote that article much before the fractal options were revealed, and I’m pretty sure there was more to the reason of his fall than getting all fed up with the Five taking back his gift to Tyria. I believe it has something to do with what transpired in the Mists before they’d fled to Tyria with humanity (something only Abaddon remembered according to the Orrian History Scrolls).
And yes, while I did write the whole article in-character (as mostly seen in the Many Wonders of Orr section with the journal-like description of places, legends, and some fan-fiction like flavoring) and I did include some popular or personal theories (which I hopefully denoted well as my own speculation), the basis of the article is founded entirely on solid lore and observations from both GW1 and GW2.
Hope that clears things up.
A fantasy of sci-fi cyborg implants grafted into the desiccated flesh of Guild Wars’ corpse.
