Hi all:

Based on the many thread/responses so far, it would appear (TO SOME) that Even’s promise of the “Fall of Abbadon” fractal is the most attractive to all.

I’m curious: Is it the lore behind this fractal attracting everyone? As a GW1 vet myself, I know I’m voting Evon.

That being said, if Evon does win…will this show Arena.net that many players are interested in substantial lore development? Do you think a vote for Evon is a vote for more lore content from GW1?

EDIT-
Saw in another post the fractal references events before GW1; however, with Abbadon being a GW1 villain, I believe this thread is still relevant.

Clearly a vote for Evon will tell the developers whatever it is you personally think it will tell the developers.

So you should vote for Evon.

Kiel is a boring character. Those who vote for kiel only votes for her because of the reduced waypoint costs, which is ahem temporary.

Personally, I’d hope the main implication is:

Evon wins: Evon is the new Captain’s Council member and that will influence what the Captain’s Council does in future LS installments.

Kiel wins: Kiel is the new Captain’s Council member and that will influence what the Captain’s Council does in future LS installments.

If they’re looking to test the waters on old mysteries versus new lore, it would be better to have a separate election based on that – maybe through the Pact, where it would make more sense for the PCs to have a say.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

Interesting perspective: As in, where the Pact wants to take the fight next? That would be very cool…perhaps seek allies in other places in the world?

I think the same thing about who to vote for. Both are offering mini games, and both are offering mostly meaningless discounts (at least all people use wps, where as I feel the key discount is completely useless thanks to all the free boosters/gem store items we’ve been getting for free from the achievement chests), I think either fractal could be great or horrible. I’d rather base my vote on who I think will be better for the LS in the future.

Also I’d love it if we got to choose which dragon to fight next (if that was done as a permanent LS update/patch). As much as I want to fight a specific one (I want my own giant ice dragon tooth to put in my home instance) I’d love to fight any of them. Would be great to go underground again and fight along the stone dwarfs, etc.

A vote for Evon is a vote for RNG

Many people have said that on the forums, the choice is in the mind of the beholder. Personally, I am kind of annoyed that when people talk about Evon they think of RNG kittenboxes, and not the entire other section which is most often used by players (the player market.) I have had quite some fun with the latter, though I’m not fan of RNG either.

The reason for that is b/c it’s one of the 2 toted points…….rng boxes and the fall of abbadon. We would not think of rng if it were not specifically stated. It’s the first selling point…..how could we not talk about rng.

While I see most votes going to evon for what is clearly the best of the fractal options. I worry that the best fractal option was added to a guy who support black lion RNG. Vote for fractal just to hear later, but you guys love black lion chests. you voted for them.

The Living Story team has tracked out whatever it is they want to do for the entire year, that pushes on after the election so regardless of whoever wins, the rest of this year is supposed to already be tracked out.

Honestly I think this election thing is the wrong way to go about things like this. For starters, real politics isn’t fun. A lot of people are going to lose here. Assuming the GW2 population is going to be almost evenly divided on this issue, half of the players will get what they want and half of them won’t. People are approaching the event with light hearted jabs and poking and constructing in-character arguments over the characters (and a lot of real game commentary by bashing Kiel as a focus stealing story suck and Evon for his link with RNG boxes) but at the end of the day, one side will lose. For some that means they won’t get the fractal they wanted, for others it means the possibility of a character they want out of the story (or more prominent in the story) will have more written for them.

Another thing about getting players to take sides is it forces the characters upon the players. Kiel is a rather bland and boring character yet by having to choose between her and a shadily portrayed charr (race and gender alone would have polarised many players) she will get support from people regardless of whether she earned it by actually being written well. The same works for Evon, who hasn’t had anything to do up until now. Suddenly he’s one of the most important characters in the game despite only having a few lines of dialogue and a couple of appearances (his status as the owner of the TP was token fluff lore until now). Neither one of these characters deserve the prominence they’ve been given, yet this election has solidified their position in the player’s memories regardless of whether they are worthy of the attention or not.

Honestly, I believe the story will continue down a predetermined path regardless of whichever party wins. Unfortunately I suspect there is very little chance of Kiel being ditched as a prominent story character now. Ideally players would vote for permanent content (based off of the fractal) but regardless of which side wins, one side will be disappointed. Had ArenaNet decided behind closed door to do the Thermanova fractal and never let players know about the Abaddon fractal, no-one would bat an eye lakitten it’s inclusion. Now that players have a choice, if they want the Abaddon fractal and end up with the Thermanova one, it will feel like a loss, like something was taken away from them. Even worse, it will be because supporters of the other side won out over them. Alternatively, ArenaNet might have been very unlikely to do an Abaddon fractal and had it never gone to a vote, Thermanova would have been the only option. If the Abaddon fractal wins because it was given a chance in this form, it’s something that players never would have gotten. When you consider everything, the election really is a double edged sword.

There is a third option – people who OOC are fine with either option, but either have an IC preference or just don’t really care either way.

While I see most votes going to evon for what is clearly the best of the fractal options. I worry that the best fractal option was added to a guy who support black lion RNG. Vote for fractal just to hear later, but you guys love black lion chests. you voted for them.

This is partly my concern as well – one hopes that ArenaNet’s CR people are more cluey than that, but I could see NCSoft marketing using an Evon win as evidence that the majority of players like RNG boxes. An additional element in play is that in-character, it is reasonable to blame Evon for the boxes. In fact, strictly speaking, blaming Evon for the boxes is more IC than OOC.

One thing that I’d have to say that really disappoints me in this is how much of a factor “Kormir syndrome” – the envy of players for an NPC receiving a position that they feel they’re more entitled to, even though the realities of the game mean it would have been impractical to give it to them – has been playing a role. I can understand people not liking Kiel because she’s a bland character, thinking Evon would be more interesting, or thinking that Evon might have more experience to do a good job, but when someone is proudly stating that they’d rather have it go to a relative unknown because they’re jealous that the NPC they fought beside got something and they didn’t…

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
