“Let’s get these facts straight before it turns into a brawl.

Captain Magnus the Bloody Handed is a member of the Captain’s Council and is in charge of the Lionguard. It was he who placed Captain Ellen Kiel’s name on the ballot, and it was he who made her a “ship” captain by commandeering an Aetherblade airship for her to command. In essence, Kiel becoming a member of the Captain’s Council will be all thanks to Magnus if she were to succeed. Though why would he want her as a member?

Ellen Kiel is by all means is a well respected citizen of Lion’s Arch, and a reputable officer of the Lionguard. She is a hero by all accounts, but what has she done to deserve this title? Yes, on paper, it was she who lead the efforts to take control of Southsun Cove during our first trip to the not-so-paradise island. It was she who discovered and assisted in the capturing of Canach during our second trip to the island while keeping the peace between the refugees and Consortium members. It also seems as though she was the one responsible for destroying the documentation that had the refugees in Sounthsun under Consortium slavery. She was the one that lead the charge and assisted in the capturing of Mai Trin, captain of the Aetherblades. By all accounts she did great, but she didn’t do it all.

Tyrian adventurers for the most part did a lot of the work during our two trips to Sounthsun Cove. While Kiel did command the efforts, she didn’t do much more in figuring out it was Canach that enraged the wild life. If anything, she came upon this fact by chance when a disgruntled assistant of Canach spilled the beans. Not to mention that it was Marjory Delaqua who was the one that discovered that it was Mai who planned the assassination of Captain’s Council member Theo Ashford. All in all, while she was of help, she didn’t really do a lot of the work. At least in front of the general public.

Now we’ve all seen how Kiel acts in general. She isn’t all that great with people, and she would much rather work than do much of anything else. She doesn’t have much confidence in being able to get the trade agreement with the Zephyrites, confiding about her uneasiness to close confidants when spoken to her. She’s a workaholic and doesn’t have much of a social life because of it, so trying to broker a trade deal with a group of people that can become un-trusting rather quickly won’t be easy for her.

All of this makes some wonder why it would benefit Magnus to have her take a seat in the Council. It’s simple really; Another Lionguard will have a vote. A Lionguard that has followed his orders with not much questions in the past. She was very quick in giving in to his plan of registering her for the election, and she agreed rather quickly to his plan with the Zephyrites. He can gain her favor with ease, and that’s something he can use to his advantage.

So there you have it. A vote for Ellen Kiel is a vote for having a power hungry norn take more control."

Your argument against Gnashblade is invalid. We all know he is a “conniving monopolist and radical capitalist”. Who better to have on the Captain’s Council right where you can see him?

Sure, he will be looking to increase his wealth, but he is a smart charr who knows that his own success is tied to the success of Lion’s Arch. Also, if there are disagreements over some decisions, isn’t that the purpose of the Council? We want members with different views to get a better discussion. (If you try to claim Gnashblade can just buy votes, well, then he could do that now couldn’t he? If your Council is that corrupt already, you have more troubles than just a business-minded charr.)

Not to mention he has chosen to back fractal research that could be very important. Look at Abaddon’s history and how much he has affected the shaping of Tyria (literally and figuratively). Knowing more about the moment in time when he was defeated by the other gods will be of more use than some asuran experiment gone awry. I mean, those “geniuses” are always blowing up one thing or another.

Vote Gnashblade for a more prosperous Lion’s Arch (BLTC is part of Lion’s Arch, kinda ). Vote Gnashblade for proper fractal research priorities.

What legion was Gnashblade a part of when he was part of a warband? If he was ever part of a warband to begin with. This should tell you alot about his character. Do we really want a lowly gladium on the ships council now? What sort of message would that send to the rest of Tyria?

(I could go either way on these candidates tbh, but Kiel is a more logical choice considering how much interaction characters have had with her in the story so far. Gnashblade is just the rich guy that takes 2% and is stingy with the BL keys. I am very intrigued by the Abbadon fractal concept tho – and I’m just getting into fractals. However, from a role-play perspective neither of my characters would vote for him, so it may come down to a metagame decision.)

Ironically, Evon Gnashblade’s “investment” in Lion’s Arch is also what keeps him there. It doesn’t matter if he is or isn’t voted to the Council because there’s nowhere better for him to go and conduct business. With Kiel on the council, there may finally be someone willing to keep a heavy hand on Evon and his outrageous business practices rather than giving him actual political power.

As for the fractal issue, I believe it was also the asura and their “boom-boom, ka-choo!” technology that discovered the Elder Dragon, Primordus, around 250 years ago. To say that nothing exciting happens around the asura is a massive understatement. Besides, part of the fractals’ charm is the mystery surrounding them and “The Fall of Abaddon” is nothing more than a rehashed lesson in human history, something we already know the outcome of.

A vote for #TeamKiel is to explore the unknown and truly mysterious!

As much as I would like to vote for Kiel, I want to see another noire detective story line, possible one of taking down a corrupt and conniving Council “man”

While yes, it does seem that giving Magnus more power would be the right choice, would it be the morally correct choice? Also you need to take into consideration how far he is willing to go to protect Lion’s Arch. Vizier Khilbron unknowingly sunk the nation of Orr in an attempt of protecting it from the charr. Though it could be debated that his worshiping of Abbadon could have played a bigger role in the Cataclysm. Still, if Khilbron had been corrupted by Abbadon, or simply a man pushed over the ledge, what’s stopping me from saying that the same could happen to Magnus. He very well could become, or is, a Son of Svanir. We don’t know his full story, just the front that he puts on display. It still stands within reason that giving Magnus more power in the Council is a bad thing.

The Sons of Svanir are a sexist and male-dominated fanatic group. Magnus has great respect for heroes such as Eir and Ellen. Hell, the female members of the Captain’s Council too. To accuse him of something so low…especially after he killed Morgus Lethe and hosted a festival reveling in the defeat of the Elder Dragons. That’s a rather disgusting claim.

Let as assume for a moment, that Gnashblade is a gladium (which he is not) and answer the question “what sort of message would that send to the rest of Tyria?”. The message, my fellow adventurers, that will ring loud and clear should Gnashblade be elected is that we are not trapped by the circumstances of our birth and Lion’s Arch is a city were everybody can made it! Whether you be a gladium outcast of the Black Citadel, matters not in the city where commerce beats combat.

Vote Evon Gnashblade! The only choice for the city built on commerce!

He is the (lead) defender of Lion’s Arch? Well then, where was he when, in the personal storyline, Claw Island is taken? And then it falls to you and your order to defend the city from the attack. And I don’t know about supporting Destiny’s Edge (after all, he really only worked with them was bc they cam to him [and he did not directly go with them] and bc he threw them in jail). He said himself the only Dragon he really cared about was Zhaitan, who affected LA.

Exactly, she doesn’t seem like the type that would be happy dealing with the bureaucracy, or law making, or even worse… Paper work. She’s always been action oriented, and would be better served in the field where she can do what she does best. Be a hero.
