Does anyone know if the rapier skin will be available before or after Aug 6th?
From what I understand, prices on Aetherized weapons will increase to 5 tickets on that date.
That means that if I decided to go for a ticket, it wouldn’t make sense to hold on to it if the rapier skin is released after the price hike, and I should just spend it as soon as I get it (or, perhaps, it would mean not going for ticket in the first place).
If anyone could provide an answer, it would be greatly appreciated .

This isn’t a strict answer,, but it is worth noting that there is a sword in the Aetherised set, and it (obviously) isn’t the rapier. So the rapier certainly isn’t intended to be the sword for the Aetherised set. With this in mind, I doubt they’re going to suddenly throw it in. It might be worth waiting until the last day before you trade in any tickets you get, though, just in case.
Given some of the other things that have been said, I have a hunch that ANet may actually be intending to introduce rapiers as their own weapon type further down the line rather than simply using them as a sword skin.

5 tickets would take forever to get, and be very expensive. I opened about 30 chests since I had keys stocked up for awhile, and got 4 scraps, so not even 10% of the way there. Would need over 300 total keys to get 5 tickets at my current rate.

It’s such a highly desired item. It would be bad business not to take advantage of that and put it in the gem store.
I’m really tired of reading people defending randomness with “good business”. Isn’t it also good business to keep your customers satisfied? And why do we even need to care about “business” if we want to play the game, have fun and acquire a single item we want?
And ironically, I’d – again – be perfectly fine with putting it in the gemstore like some weapons they had. I’m just afraid – again- that it will be gated by RANDOM and a lot of bad feelings.

“Watchwork tech is the latest and greatest innovation in Tyria. Watchwork parts can be used in new crafting recipes or as currency in the Crown Pavilion to buy items like new rune and sigil recipes, Watchknight Tonics, or the new Sovereign Weapon Set. You might even find the recipe to assemble a Watchwork Portal Device, allowing you to create a personal portal!”
… might it be that the rapier is part of this set?…

Giving out free stuff keeps your customers satisfied. But that doesn’t keep you in business does it? I know everyone wants free and cheap stuff but that’s not how it works.
And last I checked, Mike Z himself said the gemstore sales are more than enough to fund the game. So what does that tell you?
RNG works. It sells. And despite all the whining and complaining, people still buy. It’s stupid to not continue on with that trend.

That would be kinda cool of them not to make it part of their stupid RNG game like the Aetherized weapons are, but I wont get my hopes up. Id be willing to buy a rapier for my Mesmer in the gem store for sure, but not if its not a sure thing because I dont gamble or support online gambling.
It’s not actually new interest. It’s been requested by a small but passionate part of the userbase since GW1 showed promotional art of a mesmer wielding a rapier back at launch (2005). It’s crazy that GW2 didn’t have a rapier despite mesmers being given swords, but it seems like now it’s rectified.
Remember how passionate people were about Final Rest? Look akittens value now (or how many people in game you see using it). The rapier will be high demand and popular for the next month or two. Once new stuff comes out and most of the people who want the rapier get it, it will become just another weapon.
