typo in the title, boohoo
I’ve seen many posts on this forum complaining about the crazy amount of points needed for the achievement (I was one of those post even) but after playing for a while I realized that it wasn’t THAT hard getting 70+ points consistently. This guide will serve as a guideline to help you get as many points as possible. I’m by no mean an expert, though I have played the game more than enough to be able to give some tips and pointers to players who didn’t have the chance to play as much as I did.
0 – Worth of each action in points
1- Salvage, arrow hits, weapon hits
2- Trapping an opponent successfully
5- Killing an opponent
50- Being the last survivor
1 – The Beginning
At the beginning of the game you and all the other participants are around a big pile of items : rations, arrows, traps and weapons. After Evon finishes explaining the game you’ll be allowed to move, and the first 2-3 seconds of the game are really important.
There are two items you REALLY want to try and get your hands on, the first one is the pistol, the other is the sword. Why? Because those weapons are almost guaranteed kills, the pistol will almost surely get you 10 points, the sword 5, and even more if you try to finish off weakened opponents. If you don’t think you can grab either of those weapons try to get a pipe (can kill an enemy, but you need to hit twice, and you got 2 chances, make it count!) or an arrow. Ignore the rest completely.
Even rations? Even ration. In fact, after getting your weapon look around you and click surrounding players, try to find one who has a ration (or 2 if you’re lucky) and make him your target. Killing him will get you 5 points and a ration, which is arguably the most important item in the game. If you can still attack with the weapon you got, go for an opponent with both rations and arrows if possible, otherwise go for arrows.
2 – The Grace Period
During the first few minutes minutes of the games each players is protected by the Grace Period buff, which allows dying without becoming a ghost, there is no limit to how many time you can die and be respawned during those minutes. What does it mean? Be aggressive. Don’t hoard your arrows or your traps (except for ration traps, save those for later), whenever you can try and kill opponents, either with headshots (it’s very easy to get kills with headshot during the grace period, everybody is packed and most don’t pay attention to their surroundings) or the 1 skill, which is stellar at finishing off weakened opponents. Try to make every single arrow you shoot be a kill, but if not it’s no big deal, a hit is still worth a point.
Whenever you find yourself out of arrows or opponents to shoot just salvage, salvage as much as you can. 1 point per salvage might seem low, but your score will get high really fast because there is SO much to salvage. Salvaging gets you the tools you need to get more points anyway, so just do it.
Don’t try and find a hiding place during the Grace Period, it’s useless and will only make you get a low score. Heck you might even find yourself starving after a while because salvages are a really bad source of rations, and plants aren’t infinite.
3 – The Real Game : Survivor
The Grace Period has ended, now dying means something as you’ll become a ghost if you happen to get killed. Does it mean you should try and hide? No. You’re here for points, and to get points you need to salvage items, trap players and kill them.
Basically, do the exact same thing you were doing during the Grace Period, just try paying a tad more attention to your surroundings so you don’t get killed. If you have ration traps, this is where they’ll start being useful. Ration traps are one of the best tools in the arsenal or survivors when it comes to killing other players. They’re extremely deadly but can be hard to use efficiently, their area of effect is small and smart players will be able to differentiate a trap from a normal plant.
You want to place them where real plants used to be, or around corners. You can roll through them and take no damage, so blocking a tight corridor with one will do you no good against a good player.
Try surviving as long as possible, winning gives a crazy amount of points, so if you can succeed you’ll easily get more than 100+ points, but playing aggressively means you’re taking a lot of risks because you’re likely to be killed by the players you try to kill and you’ll have a few ghosts following you around and trying their kitten hardest to kill you. If you want to avoid the wrath of the ghosts, try to kill players far from salvage camps, that way they’ll not have access to a decent supply of revenge motes and won’t be able to do anything really threatening to you.
