Survival: "High Scorer" achievement too hard?
Yeah it is completely unbalanced compared to the other one.
But the reasoning is pretty obvious. People will grind the achievement anyway because they want the points. This is Evon’s game and Anet wants Evon to win. Many more people will play the survival game, thus giving evon a ton more points and helping him win.
Too hard? You’re just not playing good enough to warrant a high score.
If it was too easy, then it would be too hard for you since it would also be easy for everyone and you’d have to compete.
If you want a high score, kill as many people as you can in the start with headshots. And then if you die, just go around farming orbs.

Even then I would have to headshot 500 people at the start within 2 weeks compared to 15 orb carrier kills in Aspect Arena. I am talking about the balance between these two.
High Scorer is too high.
how many achievement points it gives in total?
Hi,
I played around 30 games in Southsun Survival so far. In general I reach around 25- 70 points each match. I may not be the best player at this game but I am at 585 points in total now out of 2500! Compared to Aspect Arena and the time I had to spend there to get all achievements this seems a bit too much. Is it intended to play 100 games to get this achievement?
Best Regards.
This content is NOT single-day content and will be available for 2 WHOLE WEEKS! With that said, you seem to have completed 1/5th of the achievement in 1 day. That means given 5 days -out of 14- you’ll have it completed. It’s not that hard at all.
P.S. Take advantage of the “grace period” and kill/trap as many people as possible prior to the game’s perma-death each round. That’ll get you points.
it gives 5 points. So there’s one problem with this one. No one will do this one on purpose only to get 6 achievments done for mini pet, and not many will do this for these points.
So it’s an achievment that will cause major problem to completionists (mostly guys, who try to compete on leatherboards), rest will not make a huge deal of it.
That’s something I would ask ANet to think about. That kind of achievments mostly gives back bad memories. People, who like playing southsun survivor will get Loot Bag for every 6 games, with no ap as reward. That’s pretty ok. For others we’ve got achievment to play 15 games, so even people, who don’t like the game will be able to complete it.
It’s still better than collecting x amount of sth, like it were in previous realeses, because now people, who want to get this, need to play with others, which creates better mmo experience (since people don’t have to run solo everywhere). Still not good to consider it a good achievment idea.
“Spawn champion karka” would be better achievment in my opinion. Spawn 5 champion karkas for tier 3, with 5 ap reward.
I think it’s actually pretty easy…if you recognize there are two games within the game. The first game is winning the match by being the last one standing. The second game is getting high on the points list. They’re often not the same thing. You can certainly get a lot of points and be last one standing, but that’s definitely the harder way to win. Whenever I’ve won I’ve had 10 or less points because the easiest strategy is to grab a bunch of rations (usually I get 7-8) and then just hide.
You got 1/5 on the points for a 2 week achievement in 1 day and you are complaining why exactly?
Asuran Engineer (Lost)
Nonsense, got it on the first day without even trying.. you need to be more aggressive, if you just hide somewhere and sit still, of course you won’t get any points. I’m getting 50-100 points per game, and since it’s epic fun, the achievement came on the first day. You can even get over 100 points and top scorer, without being alive at the end. I’ve posted some tips in another thread along with a few vids how to do it.
finished all the acheev first day too, hmm.

So you basically played 33 games average. Every game lasts for what, 10-15 minutes?
So you spent something like 5-7 hours just playing survivor.
Well, congratulations for not having a job.
Or the game ended early because everyone else died? Or they played from 5 or 6-10 or 11 after work? Really not that much time, stop with your QQ and personal attacks its pathetic

I don’t see how an achievement like this can be considered hard. An achievement like, gain 70 points in one single match, now that would be hard

Well, congratulations for not having a job.
Based on the fact that a day is roughly 24h long, a fulltime job is anywhere between 6-10h(averaging out at 8h) and that a person sleeps roughly 4-8h(lets say 6h)..
That leaves us with: 24-8(work)-6(sleep)-7(Southsun Survivor) = 3, thus we can conclude that even with a full time job he would have 3h to spare in a day, how very crude of you to conclude that he doesn’t have a job.
That said, I’ve spent about 3h on it, I’ve got 1100 points, should be done at around the 7-8h mark myself.
It’s not hard, it’s just time consuming.

Think about it…
Evon gives a better fractal
Evons minigame and trial are closer to the WP and in plain view
Kiel’s minigame and trial are stuffed in a corner
Evon gives the player free money and tokens on a regular basis, kiel does not
Evon is an actual pirate in the pirate election, Kiel is a goody goody soldier
It’s pretty obvious who they want to win here.

Evon is a supporter of the Flame Legion, though. So having him on the council is just plain bad news for LA.

ahahahahahahahah like that is gona stop him from wining…. its relllly clear who Anet wants to win by defualt and the playerbase seems more intrested in the Abadon fractal personly im rooting for Ellen but just looking at the way this is setup is’s clear that they want Evon to win
OT: the 2,500 points dose seem to be higher than the other mini game’s achvies its not imposable its just more of a grind out than the other seems a tad off in comparison maby 1,500 would of been a better mark but 2,500 just feels like heres a coffie grinder get going
People consider any achievement that can’t be maxed in a single day as hard.
Not hard, but extremely boring and time consuming.
http://youtube.com/user/Royblazer
5-6 hours every day southsun survival + doing dailys + doing 1-2 dungeons / fractal run + doing 3 dragons = 7-10 hours GW2 every day to make some progression.
Yep, not really something for casual players, as I stated in another thread already.
Casual player usually doesnt top score, so its about 30-50 points a game. 10-15 minutes per game, that makes 9-21 hours. That’s not time spent playing GW2, it’s time spend grinding Southsun Survival minigame.
So, it’s a 2 weeks event, that means Mr(s) Casual has to play 4-6 games Southsun Survival every day. Now, playing a game every day isn’t the definition of “casual”. So we make it 28-42 games a week. Really, nothing casual about it.
If you play casually and you LOVE southsun survival, you might make it, but you wont have time for anything else, resulting in missing out on other stuff, other achievements. If you play casually and you HATE southsun survival, dont even try. It will only result in lots of frustration and maybe curing you from the GW2 bug.
People, please keep in mind: playing GW2 casually often is not a choice. Yes, there is something that is called real-life, with lots of obligations that have nothing to do with an online game.
One might be able to tell the dog to wait cause there’s an achievement to be done, but try this with your husband/kids/wife/work/studies.
The only good thing about this achievement is: it’s “only” 2 points, and so I will try to get tier3 (1,000) which is possible for me and gonna remember this achievement when Im 2 points short for achievement chest.
/edit:
Btw, this achievement is in no way comparable to Crabtastic (last one standing holding crab). It took me a few tries, but I got it done in a reasonable amount of time. But with this achievement there’s no way for me and that’s just plain frustrating.
For me this minigame is boring and time consuming. The achievement smells a lot like something called “time sink” which is something Anet stated they wont do to make GW2 a game for casual players.
Well, Anet. You just crossed the line. You may proudly call your product now: Grind Wars 2. Congratulations.
(edited by Yasi.9065)
Yeah, I get like between 20~30 points per game. I thought the achievement was only 200 points since tier 2 was 100 lol. Not going to touch this minigame again since I’d rather waste gold WPing around Ascalon to get 20 events. GG ANet.
I just finished the achievement. It’s time consuming but doable. You can get 50+ points most matches if you play it smart.
If you’re really good at surviving – stock up on rations and hide. You’ll get a big point boost for winning.
If you’re not good at surviving – don’t try. As soon as Evon announces he wants to see bodies drop, let someone kill you. It’s much easier to get points as a ghost if you’re the first to die – camps will be chock full of revenge motes and you can get a whole bunch. Each mote is 1 point. If you have an abundance of them that you can pick up (max motes you can carry is 15, so more would be wasted), drop traps and try to kill players. Drop traps in front of players, not on top of them.
Once you got as many motes as possible, find a survivor and follow them. Try to stay ahead of them by a bit and drop the #1 skill in front of them. It costs 1 mote and gives you 2 points. You can get 20 points this way with 10 motes, which is more than what you’d get by dropping a Karka on them and successfully killing them.
Basically, if you’re bad at surviving, die ASAP and collect as many motes as possible for free points, then drop the harmless traps in front of a survivor so you can milk your motes for points.
Also keep in mind each (non-winning) chest has about 8-9s in it, so even though you’ll waste a lot of time you’ll also make a bit of money.
I wrote a simple guide about how to get points : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/cutthroat/Southsun-Surival-How-to-get-points
It’s not a guaranteed way to get a ton of points, but I always got around 70 using those techniques.
Yeah, make aspects achivment more difficult to get!!!
to gain more points quickly, one must play aggressively.
play aggressively, kill as much as possible, especially during the first 2 minutes.
after 2 minutes, play aggressively, watch your back too, kill as much as possible.
dead? haunt aggressively!
Btw, this achievement is in no way comparable to Crabtastic (last one standing holding crab). It took me a few tries, but I got it done in a reasonable amount of time.
crabtacular requires one to be very lucky.
one can be very unlucky and does not get it at all.
2,500 points is confirmed achievable, just takes time.
a lot of people have no patience.
just to point out voteing is done by how much you play in the relvent partys minigames as much as anything else… if it takes you 5 hrs to do Ellens butt 30hrs to do Evons dose that not rellly point something out >.> like riged voteing system?
meh
If you are Going for points theres a strategy you can use by dying early and spamming traps to get points. You should be able to average about 70 points per game. Then this achieve would take 4 hours max.
The idea of this achievement is all right, but the reward is completely unsatisfying. If the reward would be something like 10 achievement points instead of an insulting 1 achievement point and would also reward you with the title “Survival of the Fittest”, it would be so much better, rewarding and satisfying. Please make it happen Arenanet.
Not hard, but extremely boring and time consuming.
Pretty much this.
Getting the amount of points needed seems like such an insurmountable task because there is very little enjoyment in getting there. Well for me at least. As it is now, playing one match is so lacking in entertainment that the thought of playing match after match is just plain dreadful.

No, it doesn’t. The only thing that votes for a candidate are support tickets you put in their box.
I wouldn’t consider it as bad if you got points over time. Like a point every 1-2 seconds or so for staying alive. It would encourage people to use more parts of the map that weren’t chock full of supplies, and you don’t get punished for not killing or camping a base.
This actually might be the first event achievement I’ll skip out on. I severely dislike the mini game, and grinding to 2,500 points is eye gouging. Even Aspect Arena achievements didn’t take as long.
http://youtube.com/user/Royblazer
The grind wouldn’t feel so bad if the point system made any sense at all.
If I win a match I usually end up with somewhere between 70-90 points. if I almost win a match being the second or third one last to die, I’ll usually get 20-30 points (from collecting items and a handful of player kills). If I intentionally die early so I can be a ghost right at the beginning, I’ll be able to easily collect a ton of blue dots so I can go to town on the living and get 50-60 points.
The achievement says go out and get points. From how it’s laid out above the best thing to do is to intentionally lose. This will get you the most points consistently. Especially when who wins rarely depends on skill and usually depends on who among the remaining few have been found by the ghosty masses.
If I felt like I naturally got the point achievement by legitimately playing the game then it would be fun. But instead it’s set up like this so it feels really lame and sours the game for me.

So you want points for doing absolutely nothing? GG man. Points are rewarded to players who do stuff.
Skilled players already know how to use the entire map. I weaved my way through the Karka, and made it to the jumping stones JP in the north. I won simply because all the ghosts ganked the remaining survivors, while I just stood around eating my rations.

Considering it’s a survival game I’d hardly call surviving as doing absolutely nothing. The fact that there is little incentive to actually survive sort of defeats the purpose of a survival game.
2500 is fxxxxxx too high
it’s good about 500 point at top tier
no one like farm point game, it’s suck
took me a few days to farm it, it’s not so bad. Just kill people during 2 minute grace and be good at surviving if they put you at a different location on the map.
watch my GW2 vids at:

one person’s meat is another person’s poison.
for each person complaining here in the forum, i say there is at least ten person enjoying the game and not coming to the forum.
I played it for the first time a few hours ago, playing as a hunter rather than a hider. My score ranged between 38 and 130, with 60 being my average.
After 4 hours, I’m at 1486/2500. For comparison, it took me about 8 hours to get 15 crystal kills while playing normally (not specifically focusing on killing carries), though for the last hour or two, I did get about 8 kills.
The difference between the two achievements is, you’ll eventually get the 2500 points whereas it’s possible to never get a crystal kill. However, if people are willing to cheat, 15 kills can easily be done in a few games, whereas 2500 points has to be earned.
(edited by Healix.5819)
I estimated I would need to play 14-20 hours just to get the 2500 points for this achievement. I hope they will make it so this achievement is still doable after the event is over during the weekly mini rotation…… otherwise… not cool…
