I love how you put modern believes on a midevil society. The human and char war was like the 100-year war between France and England never really ended. The Char was lead by the flame legion a separate faction which EVON is not a part of. So by Judging him by past actions of race is definition of prejudiced and racism. That being said it is equivalent for blaming white people for slavery today honestly. Wait for the actual political race before you decide who to vote for. That probably wasn’t the best argument talking to Kiel supporters.

The original source has been removed, but we have evidence that neither humans nor charr were originally native to Ascalon, but the grawl. We know the charr empire expanded under the Khan-Ur. The human empire, likewise, expanded under Doric and his predecessors (the motivation for attacking the charr specifically may have been different, but we know from the Orrian scrolls that they were told to go forth and conquer by Balthazar, over the objections of Melandru and Dwayna, who seemed more inclined to convert the other races). Neither side is really the victim here, and besides, none of this happened in living memory.

There’s a peace now, and we’re all hoping it’ll hold, so it doesn’t really matter now, right? Right? (If I was speaking in character – probably my norn – she’d be glaring at you all and resting her hand on her axe meaningfully here)

More importantly, it doesn’t really matter. There’s nothing about Kiel’s background or character that we know of where it’s actually important that she’s human. She could have been any of the other playable races and still behaved much the same – she’s not part of the human meta-story or otherwise represent humans the way, say, Marjory or Kasmeer do, it’s just that she had to be some race and human is what ArenaNet happened to pick. Similarly for Evon – a merchant baron is a position that could be filled by any race.

This isn’t, or at least shouldn’t be, an election about race. It’s an election between two individuals.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

I would like to add that the Thaumanova reactor’s history absolutely needs to be researched – all of us still have to clean up the chaotic energy every single day. Research is highly relevant and valuable, if ever we hope to get rid of the chaotic distortions threatening Metrica Province once and for all!

Just remember the last time we are offered cheap black lion keys! What did we get at the end? Worthless junks, things we could buy for karma already and no keys.

That charr don’t say how much it will be cheaper 1% 2% even if it is 10 or 15 how many times do you plan to buy them with that price? You will buy 1 or mabey 2? even if you are “golden” you don’t want to waste your money on RNG boxes.

Now want it or not you will use waypoints to travel. Imagine how many times you will use them in four weeks! Thats a lot!

Let’s see the fractal options! You want underwater combat with possible krait and/or shark, risen enemies or you want to fight with possible construct and/or inquest enemies?

In times of troubles who will stand beside you and hold the line? The merchant or the captain?

And that human didn’t say how much she would reduce waypoint costs. It could be 1% or 2%. However, Evon says he will “slash” prices. Slash, when used in this context, would generally indicate a larger difference than Kiel’s wording (only “reduce”.)

Now want it or not you will use waypoints to travel. Imagine how many times you will use them in four weeks! Thats a lot!

You both presume much and say things that are neither proven nor the most likely. Sure, we may fight a construct and/or Inquest enemies (of which there are numerous already,) but where exactly does fighting Krait and sharks (Risen is just plain laughable; this is the Fall of Abbadon from his seat as a god, when Zhaitan still lay forgotten under Orr; this is before GW1) fit into the Fall of Abbadon. Nobody said anything about Krait or sharks, but Margonites and other servants of Abbadon (possibly Abbadon himself) are FAR more likely than Krait or sharks.

In times of troubles who will stand beside you and hold the line? The merchant or the captain?

Neither, the captain will stand back while you fight for your life, and the merchant will gear you up for an epic fight, but not stand beside you…yet. Or the merchant could decide to hire a small army of guys to help protect people. But the *cough*Kormir Syndrome*cough* Captain probably won’t have the money to supply you like that.

btw if you want to sell keys cheaper the best way to do it to sell the gems cheaper. Even if the keys get a significant amount of cut (I mean you have to pay for them less then 3 gold) probably the players will start to buy gems to buy the keys. As they buying gems the gems will be more expensive. So the discount on keys will be counterweighed with the price increase on gems. To make it worthwhile without a huge gem price increase I can’t imagine higher discount then 25 %. that would be a “slash” still it would be more than 3 gold to buy 1 and get the CHANCE of getting something.

Yes, by all means, vote for the incompetent slavery-supporting human whose decisions nearly singlehandedly led to the destruction of Southsun. I’m sure she’ll “protect” the citizens of Lions Arch like she heroically prevented the assassination of the charr ambassador and a Captain’s Counselor.

…oh, wait. That’s right! She failed to accomplish anything without the intervention of groups of random adventurers. Without said adventurers, she was truly successful at failing miserably. Well, I’m sure she’ll be a shrewd and competent politician despite her track record of failure.

Totally has my vote.

Kiel all the way. Evon just appeared out of nowhere, and we knew her from previous missions.

Evon’s been around since the beginning of the game. He created the Black Lion Company, for kitten’s sake. You could meet him on day one in Lion’s Arch.

Azureai, you’ve got it all wrong.

As much as you or I would disagree with it, the contracts were a legal binding agreement according to the laws of Lion’s Arch. Ellen’s hands, in that affair, were tied – as an enforcer of the laws of Lion’s Arch, she did not have the mandate to put a stop to activity that was within those laws, however distasteful that may be. And when the opportunity came to put an end to that in a manner that granted her plausible deniability – she took it.

As a member of the Lionguard, her authority extends only to upholding those laws. No further.

As a member of the Captain’s Council, on the other hand, she will have the ability to influence policy and thus close the loopholes that allowed abuses such as the effective slavery of the refugees to occur. Would Evon care to do so? Well, during the crisis we speak of, Evon did not even take the initiative to sanction the Consortium by removing their goods from Black Lion shelves.

If you want to see the laws of Lion’s Arch improved so the Southsun Crisis or something like it cannot reoccur… vote Ellen Kiel.

I’m voting for Kiel for one reason and one reason only. Personally, I think Evon would make a far more interesting choice as far as story goes, and I am rather curious about his fractal, as I never actually played GW1. But I won’t vote for him, and here’s why:

The price cut for the black lion keys won’t mean anything, because during that time, people will be buying gems like crazy, and that will hike the cost of gems up high enough that it won’t matter if the keys are discounted or not. I’m not interested in RNG items in the first place, I certainly have no intention of doling out real life money, and making gold in game is already tough and time consuming as it is, to waste it on something that may or may not give you anything worthwhile.

Just because the cost of keys will be discounted, doesn’t mean it’ll be cheaper – the cost of gems will rise with demand.

You make an honest point. But Ellen didn’t need to be there at all. She could have claimed the island was outside her jurisdiction and let the settlers do what they wanted. Instead she enforced the contracts, which lead to a worse uprising and brought the crazed karka down on the heads of the settlers and unsuspecting tourists.

And the only reason why Ellen was able to make her deniable gambit was because a group of random adventurers showed up and put the solution right in her lap.

I don’t think Kiel is a bad person, but she as a leader she’s proven herself inept and ineffective. She’s reactive instead of proactive. And the other members of the Captain’s Counsel will run roughshod right over her.

It wasn’t until yesterday that I decided to fully support Kiel.

The Thaumanova reactor’s history seemed like it would have a bigger impact on the world today than the Fall of Abaddon. However I wasn’t ready to cast my full vote to Kiel yet because I was still curious about Fall of Abaddon so I was waiting for something to push me to one side or the other.

This came in the form of the candidate trials, after listening to the conversation between Kiel and her subordinate and Evon and his subordinate. Kiel wanted to return the goods to their rightful owners while Evon wanted to take it for himself to fuel his campaign. The very campaign that would allow him to set up trade agreements with the people we just saw him steal from…

I don’t think Kiel is a bad person, but she as a leader she’s proven herself inept and ineffective. She’s reactive instead of proactive. And the other members of the Captain’s Counsel will run roughshod right over her.

In fact, she did need to be there – she was the Lionguard officer assigned by the Captain’s Council to keep the peace there. Now, I’m not familiar with the Lionguard policy is on refusing assignments, but at best if Ellen had refused the Council would have sent a different officer who might have been less sympathetic towards the settlers. At worst, she would have lost her job, and then the Captain’s Council would have sent a different officer who, with the example of Ellen’s sacking, might have been too afraid to do anything to help the settlers lest they be the next to lose their jobs.

As I said before… previously, she was there as the enforcer of the will of the Captain’s Council, and she had to at least give the appearance of following her orders to the letter. With her as a member of the Council, however, she will have some say in what that policy would be.

When it comes to her acts… I don’t wish to downplay the actions of the adventurers, but it was not as simple as the solution being ‘put in her lap’ as you state it. Yes, we discovered Canach’s plan to destroy all of the places the contracts may have been secured… after Ellen had identified that it was Canach that was responsible. Ellen then took advantage of the opportunity to trick Noll into putting the contracts on a Lionguard ship, allowing Ellen to dispose of them in a manner that looked like an accident.

You claim that Ellen lacks the ability for skullduggery for the Council, but she had the skills at intrigue to see an opportunity and capitalise on it. However, Ellen has demonstrated that she will use those skills to help others, not simply to promote her own gain.

Times have been real hard for me and mine since the dredge attacked our village.

We were forced out, driven from homes. It was a periless trek to Lion’s Arch, that left us pennyless and destitute.

We had no future, and no prospects, so when the consortium came, we took their word, and their promise of a better future to heart.

But it was a lie. Those consortium thugs worked us night and day on that karka infested deathtrap, siging us into contracts we couldn’t refuse.

If it were not for Ellen Kiel and the rest of the Lion Guard I wouldn’t be here today.

There are a lot of promises being thrown around, but for me, I trust what I see, and when I look at Evon Gnashblade all I see is another fatcat merchant trying to take me for ride with false promises, decietful tactics.

Ellen was there to protect the people of Tyria, She fought side by side with us to protect the people. Evon just smells profit, he said so himself. Do we really need someone like that in the council? Tyria needs to stand togheter and bleed togheter to fight agaisnt the real things that threatens Tyria: The Dragons. Ellen has proven to be a caring and selfless person willing to take such a difficult position for the better of Tyria.
We dont have the time for this, we are the army that needs to protect Tyria!
If you have any dignity in you, you should know better then voting for Evon, who would trade his mother for money.

-Kiel offers cheaper WP cost, It’s something we can all benifit from.
-Evon’s cheaper keys are cool, but they will be reduced in cost again sooner or later anyway.
-Reaserch into a exterminated god sounds awsome, but who cares really? The gods are not even here to protect us now from the dragons.
-Having insight into the mistakes made from the thaumanova incident could provide Tyria with something we can really use agaisnt the Dragons.

Voting for Gnashblade is best thing we can do to support Guild Wars 2. Even if you don’t buy keys yourself, others will happily pay the reduced price. Think about steam sales. This increases profit for Anet/NCsoft which translates to a stable budget that will provide a solid foundation for future content! Save a miniscule amount of copper on reduced WP prices for a few weeks, or get better more frequent content for years to come? Vote for Gnashblade says you care about the future of Guild Wars 2.
