There is no way they were referring to when Kormir became a god. This content already exists in GW1 and would be uninteresting.

And as for who may care about abaddon? Well based on the amount of support we can see not only in this thread but in many others, I’d say quite a bunch of people, myself included as I’d like to see something that reconnects (sortoff) to gw1.

Wasn’t there a game called nightfall that was all about abaddon, it doesn’t matter how he fell. We know he did end of story. We know nothing about the reactor. The gods are long gone, why does it matter about them.

Well, I fought Abaddon and I’m not blind. Also this is a fractal, it is possible that you will not go blind.

You asked questions, I gave answers. I gave you your where, and your who. Just because you refuse to accept these answers doesn’t make them wrong.

as said: Crystal Sea / Desert slightly into the reaches of Elona….it was literally just in the sea though, don’t get snippy. It may have been near a location where the Forgotten had residence. Not much is known about it.

Simply because her followers were mainly healers, does not mean they are pacifists, also stated: she is the goddess of air as well (in turn lightning and air magic)

Abaddon himself has no predecessor, although it was hinted at through dialogue, it may simply be untrue, as far as we know he was one of the true six gods. Also he was not necessarily defeated, simply imprisoned because of his actions, although it was a war he waged against the remaining gods.

The margonites were created when abaddon bestowed the magic upon them. The margonites are simply devout to Abaddon so when he was imprisoned they were the vessel to seek revenge on everything he wished. So in turn the margonites were potentially enemies to all, including the devout of the other 5 Gods.

Abaddon was the one who gave the power behind the great cataclysm that sunk orr, to the Vizier Khilbron in order to defeat the Charr who were invading the human kingdoms….although the Vizier may not have know the power was from abaddon when he acquired it, turning himself into the Lich in the process.

Interesting notes:

- Abaddon granted the Vizier the power that sunk Orr, in order to stop the Charr invasion.

- The Charr gained their power from Abaddon through the Titans released from the realm of Torment

- The humans used the gift of magic Abaddon gave them to try and claim Tyria for themselves, which began The Guild Wars.

- The Charr invaded when the humans were weakened by war.

All of these are linked to abaddon, and there is so much more content we could possibly get that focus around the Gods and Orr.

Abaddon gives magic > Abaddon becomes imprisoned > humans use magic to wage war to conquer Tyria > Abaddons power is acquired by the Charr via the Titans > Charr invade the human kingdoms under war > Upon the steps of Orr, Abaddons power is used to sink the nation and cause the Cataclysm.

Not 100% but I think King Adelbern’s sword was Orrian in nature, meaning it too may have been infused by a certain god’s magic, and causing the Foefire.

Simply put, Abaddon is awesome

-I believe Grenth defeated Dhuum before the gods brought humans to tyria. Abaddon wasn’t defeated until after his decision to grant magic to the humans. Since we see statues of Grenth -not Dhuum- in Orr, leads one to believe that Grenth was among the gods who defeated Abaddon.

-The battle was so intense, it transformed the entire Crystal Sea into desert. It’s likely the battle took place over the entirety of the sea, with gods fighting in the heavens, and margonites/human armies waging naval battles across its surface.

-Margonites were ordinary humans before getting banished to the realm of torment with their god. So they probably looked like other ordinary humans.

-The gods didn’t want to take magic away from the humans, possibly because they couldn’t. But they did want to limit its use by sealing it away in the bloodstones, thus preventing any single human from possessing all schools of magic. Abaddon and his followers believed that magic should continue to flow freely. Perhaps Abaddon felt that the other gods were punishing him by limiting his gift to the humans.

1. Wooden Potatoes kittens up his explanations of lore. What is said is that Abaddon was the mightiest of gods and that he was CAPABLE of defeating a god in one-on-one combat. He never actually did so.
2. Grenth rose to power no later than 48 BE. Abaddon fell in 0 AE. You can do the math. (Hint: Grenth was a god then)
3. The coast. Again, Mouth of Torment in modern day.
4. They were humans, so they naturally looked like humans. We see a ghost of one in Prophecies. However, given the Scriptures of Abaddon, they may have been turned into demonic entities before banishment into the Realm of Torment, so they likely looked like they did in GW1.
5. False. Technically speaking, the Forgotten started the war. As shown in the link of the translated doc I put above, the Margonites favored Abaddon so greatly that they defaced the statues of the other five gods at the Temple of the Six Gods – this enraged the Forgotten who began a genocide. This kitten ed Abaddon off who in turn began a genocide of his own and in turn assaulted the Gates of Heaven (what and where this is, is unknown). This then kitten ed the other five gods off who waged war with Abaddon.

The whole concept of Abaddon being enraged over magic being limited is mostly player speculation, I believe. And the timeframe in which the Bloodstone was made in relation to Abaddon’s fall is also unknown. Though I’m not 100% certain on this.

Humanity was in Tyria when Dhuum was defeated. The Seven Reapers are heavily implied to have been humans, and Grenth to have been half-human. Though not explicitly stated. However, we do know that Dhuum was defeated in the ossuary of the Temple of Lyssa.

Love how you assume you know what happened at that place yet using the same logic we know nothing of both.

It was once an asuran city.
What happened?
Why was it abandoned?
What kind of inquest experiments went on there?
Are these experiments related to Kudu’s experiments on dragon energy?
Why did the Inquest use this location?
How did the Inquest manage to build something underground to experiment?
Did he Asurans know about the experiments?

Since we already “know” stuff about this I’m pretty sure these questions cold easily be answered.

That is just the tip of the iceberg.

Based on OP’s logic we already kow what happened to Abaddon. He was banished by the gods. See it is silly to use this logic because for both we don’t know what went on beforehand. And I’m sure a simple fractal will only answer a few questions we have about either. So don’t get your hopes up

Though we know more of the “beforehand” for Abaddon than we do for Thaumanova, thanks to the document released only to Asian communities (gg on that Anet?) which gives a pretty good detail about it.

All we know is that The Thaumanova Reactor was an Inquest facility, precursor to the Infinite Coil Reactor (aka Crucible of Eternity), had crystals from the underground cave in Iron Marches, and it blew up and now chaos magic reigns.

We know what Abaddon did. We know why Abaddon started a war. We know the outcome of the war. We know who partook in the war. We know where the war was. What we don’t know is merely the fine-details. What was the Five’s actions in the war, were there more than the Forgotten and Margonites involved, why was Abaddon annoyed over Margonites getting wiped out by Forgotten and why did the Five Gods back up the Forgotten and perhaps was there more to it?

We know more of Abaddon’s fall than the Thaumanova Reactor’s background. People just dismiss the later because it’s “just another asura lab explosion.”

Actually who cares about the reactor, they pushed the wrong button, it overheated and exploded. Zzzzzzzz… you get to fight a bunch of inquest (seen them) in the reactor (been there)

My opinion on the matter is that yes, Fall of abaddon is vague, there are many thing we are left wondering about, but we know at least, the general outline of what it was about, It’s in the lore, and GW has a rather interesting lore. But Anet’s storytelling hasn’t always been examplary. One of my many fears when regards to nice fiction is that when it is focused on and being told with great detail, the storyteller might end up messing the entire mystique of the lore. It’s like star Wars and the Force; George lucas killed it for me when he introduced the concept of midichlorians, just horrible interpretation that one..

Add to the fact that we know next to nothing Reactor, I’d say this lends weight to why I’d vote Kiel. they might make a lame duck story about the reactor but at least they wont destroy an nice existing lore. And if they do make it good, hey at least we have a nice whole new lore…

The Bloodstone pieces were put inside Abaddon’s Mouth – the largest volcano in the Ring of Fire. That’s west of Orr, on the edge of the Strait of Malchor.

Abaddon was defeated in the Crystal Sea, that’s east of Orr, on the total other side of the peninsula.

The Crystal Sea is what it used to be, then it dried up when the five gods defeated Abaddon, turning it into the Crystal Desert and the southern coastline where Abaddon was defeated into the Desolation.

The first fall (the one to be portrayed in the fractal) of Abaddon was over 1300 years ago.
The Thaumanova Reactor incident happened within the last 6 years, and it’s effects are still current.

Considering how GW2 wants to be about “Living World”, I find it quite vexing that something that happened over 1300 years ago is even an option.

That is an interesting thought. Maybe the “fall of Abbadon” fractal will have you playing as Margonites in an alternate reality where Abbadon won.

The Guild Wars 1 wiki page for Abaddon does say he was incensed when the gods sealed magic into the bloodstones, so perhaps it was a combination of all of the above.

My reasoning for choosing the Abaddon fractal is this: the Dragons were interesting until we defeated Zhaitan. I’m sorry, there’s really nothing to it anymore. Zhaitan got screwed by a megalaser. The Gods, however, have remained interesting and mysterious since Prophecies came out. Yes we learned more about them, but the extra info never diminished them in the player’s eyes.

And to say that their influence no longer effects Tyria is dead wrong. Why? Lyssa’s muse said it perfectly prior to the final battle against Abaddon:

“The divinity is within you.”

It’s time this debate got a lot more philosophical.

Do we have direct confirmation that the battle was along the coast and not out at sea? Margonites were ship-fairing people. A battle on the high seas would be pretty awesome.

My reasoning for choosing the Abaddon fractal is this: the Dragons were interesting until we defeated Zhaitan. I’m sorry, there’s really nothing to it anymore. Zhaitan got screwed by a megalaser. The Gods, however, have remained interesting and mysterious since Prophecies came out. Yes we learned more about them, but the extra info never diminished them in the player’s eyes.

And to say that their influence no longer effects Tyria is dead wrong. Why? Lyssa’s muse said it perfectly prior to the final battle against Abaddon:

“The divinity is within you.”

It’s time this debate got a lot more philosophical.

You. A human. GW2 is about all the races now. As to them not being diminished in player’s eyes, that’s subjective. Personally, I think they’re old hat, lore luggage brought on from fantasy RPG traditions that would be better off gone, but that’s never going to happen.

We already know they didn’t create Tyria, we know they didn’t create Glint or even the Forgotten for that matter, and it’s very likely they didn’t create humanity. Without that creative capacity, they’re little more than powerful mages and warriors going about expecting worship, which is utter garbage. The reverence, devotion, and worship are all that really deify them, and only very little else, when considered from a broader racial perspective.

“The divinity is within you” may as well be them fessing up to, oh, hey, sorry, did we never mention you guys could pull this stuff off too if you tried hard enough? We didn’t? Really? Ah man, sorry guys. That explains why you’ve been so pitiful.

Wasn’t there a game called nightfall that was all about abaddon, it doesn’t matter how he fell. We know he did end of story. We know nothing about the reactor. The gods are long gone, why does it matter about them.

This is such a lame argument.
It doesn’t matter how the reactor blew up. We know it exploded and its rubble now. Rooba vacuums it once in a while. End of story. Why does it matter? Bulldoze it over and be done with it.
Seems to go both ways. Both events are in the past.

It was an Asuran city based on what the asuran npc said. People often mistake this simply as a reactor because they don’t read or look at the lore for gw2.

Exactly, the god’s divinity is within humanity. Humanity is still on Tyria, therefore the gods still have influence. And just because they left doesn’t mean they’ll stay gone. They could be just uber-powerful mages and such but relatively speaking, all gods are like that. The point is, while they did not create Tyria, they SHAPED Tyria. Dwayna brought humans to Tyria. Balthazaar led the humans to crush all other races. A half-human named Grenth is lord of the Underworld. Abaddon gave magic to the races. Melandru and Dwayna tried to establish peace between all the races. Kormir transcended humanity into divinity. Lyssa is the patron of chaos energy, which is directly tied to the complications of Thaumanova (perhaps she’ll show up). Grenth and Balthazar has wars with Dhuum and Menzies. Who’s to say one of their wars spills into Tyria? Who’s to say Dhuum or Menzies won’t attempt what Abaddon did and attack Tyria?

The Dragons are here, yes. We know how to fight them. We know how to beat them. Yeah, we beat Abaddon, but he was still tired and grouchy from his beatdown from 1100 years beforehand, and chained, no less. And still his god-like essence threatened to destroy Tyria. No, the gods are still very relevant to Tyria.

You’re assuming that there is nothing to learn from the magic’s used during the war by the Forgotten and the Margonites, the other Humans at the time or by the gods themselves. Also we could see where the ancient armies and (more importantly) any powerful magical artifacts they could’ve used.

Thaumanova does not remotely compare to the rise of an elder dragon. Have you not seen the Brand? Kralkattorik created that massive swath of destruction by breathing on the ground. Who knows what he did to the crystal desert. Thaumanova broke reality and such, but only within the walls of the reactor itself.

Also, the infinity ball already opens portals to the future, so there.

Thats not true. I don’t remember how but many places all over the game world are affected by the reactor. Maybe someone that remembers the details can post this.

Head north into Toxal Bog in Brisban Wildlands.

Head into the Iron Marches, to the Chaos Crystal Cavern.

Head into Mount Maelstrom to south of the Crucible of Eternity.

Those are ALL after-effects of Thaumanova Reactor explosion.
