Every time I loot a vote now, it comes up in Chinese writing, any reason for this or is it a bug?

No, it’s a bug. Anet was preparing codes for the Chinese release, and some showed up in game for the votes. People can’t mess with the codes of items that you pick up (as shown on the right side of the screen).

Actually, they can. You know the codes to get color change text? Those are items.

Example, one of them is a Mystic Clover. If you link a real Mystic Clover, it will appear as

But that’s not the chat box in the picture. That’s the icons that appear when you pick up your loot. No player can alter that data, unless they hack into the game.

Do you know what side of the screen is RIGHT? Look closely at the OP’s picture, and try again.

Edit – meaning the chat box is on the left

You realize that once an item is changed clientside, it’s changed until the client refreshes the cache/that item, which involves logging out.

If I were to do the Mystic Clover recipe, it would show up as

Not chat box. Item drops. My server, esp. my guild, uses the colors of Legendary and Exotic items to spam guild recruit messages all the time. The icons with the chinese characters are from pickups from loot bags/chests.

I can also confirm that me and my guild has also gotten those item drops with the Chinese characters.. on different maps. So no, one single player cannot alter all item drops game wide. Otherwise, my Clovers (and yours) would all have my guild’s name constantly.

Item drops get parsed the same way the chat box gets parsed. I don’t think you understand this. It’s not that hard of a concept to grasp. Let me put it in other words for you.

Any item that gets shown through the chat box is shown in the same way when looting.

So what you’re saying is that one person messed around with the chat box, then me and my guildies, on a different servers, were affected? So the Clovers in your bank should show my guild’s name on them. I fully understand now.

No, if someone in your map pings it in map chat, it will affect you. You might not have noticed it, you might have ignored it. You might not have even seen it at all (it might have been flooded out or just not seen). Regardless, it was in your chatbox at some point.

Then when I get home, I’ll have this tested. I can hardly believe that the same chinese text can show up for that item on different servers, for different people, at different times.

Same thing for me, 9 days ago. My UI was in french and i was not on overflow.
This also affects the token vendor name in the window (something which can’t be linked in the chat box), as you can see.

Ugh, gibberish scribbles.

Guild Wars 2 is not a sequel to the original Guild Wars but merely an alternative story setting.
