I’m not sure why Moa Racing is the way it is. Look at the negative feedback you guys got with Crabtactular. Same thing here, only this time it costs gold to get the achievements, which is even worse. I doubt you will change this before the event is over, much like the aforementioned Crabtactular, but I do hope future Living Story achievements allow you to achieve without the added RNG.

Any official word on this, or is it going to be like Crabtactular?

I’m just a little confused here. You don’t need the achievement to get the shattered wings (technically you don’t even “need” the shattered wings). GW1 had two titles that were purely based on rnd/luck (the lucky and unlucky title) which actually had an effect on gameplay (if I recall correctly +2% chance for salvaging and retaining a lockpick for opening chests per lucky rank). And to actually max those titles, was pretty expensive, at least more money than I ever had.

I will say, that it would be nice if there was a cheaper alternative for betting that allowed newer characters to participate (and for balance just have it so they can’t win tickets, but can still win some extra silver).

What was the negative feedback with Crabtactular?

Basically, the achieving part was being really lucky. I personally do not feel like I’m achieving something if any kind of luck is involved. To me that’s just what it is, it’s luck. Adding this to temporary content hurts achievement hunters, and even normal people who cant afford tons of gold to throw into the mini game. Has nothing to do with the wings, but more with the mechanics of how the achievement works.

I really dislike the moa racing achievement. Not only is it based on luck, but you also have to spend a good amount of silver/gold if the race doesn’t go in your favor. Very discouraging.

Crabtacular required skill to get. Only the most skilled players could get it constantly. Others who got it by luck, so be it.

As for Moa Racing, this is the best thing ever. The one way you beat RNG is to watch the patterns of the race winner over multiple races. With that information, you then have an idea of which Moa to pick. Then, right before you place your bet, go with a completely different Moa, and you may win more times than not. In other words, never go with the pick your gut tells you to.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

The moa racing is a perfect gold sink. They know alot of people go after every achievement, especially the event achievements. Players are basically now paying to complete an achievement.

Gambling is simply a lesson in maths. Easiest way to win is not to play.
