Disappointed with the Coffers
thx arena… i spent 1200 gems on rich coffers so 15 of them and got just some candies. bought 2000 normal coffers and what i got? same candies.
thx for your perfect RNG.
Just for fun….
ArenaNet changing my Title. Pfft. Well, if you are spending real money on RNG (Rich Coffers), isn’t that a form of gambling? If so, I thought that was illegal anyways? o.O (Not trying to start anything by the way. Just for curiousity sakes.
yeeeeeep, I feel your pain.
I’m up to 3162 with no ticket. Good Luck!
Sounds like a gambling addiction. The only ‘insane’ thing is that you kept buying them.
I bought 0 coffers, opened about 300 from drops only. I got one ticket, 3 or 4 knight minis, and a wing cover. Oh the cover was from a small chest drop not a coffer. I am feeling lucky now but this is the first ticket of any sort that I have found. The reason for my response is not to gloat but to state that it is completely unnecessary to buy them.

I’m lazy. ’nuff said. ArenaNet prays on the Lazy.
RNG is RNG, what did you ecpect? Sometimes people lack the understanding of statistics… blame it on luck, blame it on something else. The only thing you could moan about is that we have no clear chances displayed for the specific items, but it always was you that took the decision to buy these RNG items.
And this is no gambling. There is no legal way to get real money out of this game, only to but real money into it. Therefore there is no “price” that could be won by gambling. IF you by gems for real money you also get something for that: gems. What ever you do with them is something complete different.

Cause this is CLEARLY not the same logic as buying Poker Chips and then using those Poker Chips in a Casino.. Right? Lol Get out of here.

You obviously have NO idea what RNG stands for then. Do you. There are NO statistics involved with RNG. RNG stands for Random Number Generator. How RNG works is it basically sets an item to a specific number, and then adds a pool of numbers to that hat. That being said, it is ENTIRELY luck if you manage to pull that number out of the hat and win said item. THAT is how RNG works. Now, the chance or odds of pulling the number out of this said hat is entirely based on how many “numbers” ArenaNet decides to put in this hat. Such as a crafting item that is common. They could put 2 numbers in the hat, then there is a 50/50 chance you’ll get it. Or, they could put 1000 numbers into that hat, and then it becomes a 1/1000 or 0.1% chance to obtain said item.
You’re gambling your money on a guess pretty much. You’re throwing your money on “Luck”, and that is the exact essence of gambling good sir.
Sorry about the off-topic, but something that I’ve been wondering lately… how do you keep track of how many coffers you’ve opened? I’ve seen people talking about “I oppened about X coffers”, but in several threads I’ve seen posts like CelebrityX that says exactly how many. Do you keep a counter or something?.
Going back on topic, one thing that I’d like to know is whether the DR is affecting the coffers somehow. I’m saying this because I got a ticket (no minis so far, though) with a guesstimate of between 150 and 200 coffers (based on the fact that I had 73/300 holographic things killed back then and I felt I was getting 3x more coffers from mobs), and well, I wasn’t really farming them back then, just getting them as I played, and opening them as soon as I got them, and I know of at least 3 guildies that got tickets while playing that way as well (granted, it’s a very large guild), while at the same time I keep reading of people buying them off the TP in the thousands and getting nothing after (I guess) opening them all at once. Just wondering a bit.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

This is actually interesting. I am glad you brought this up, because I am seeing the difference as well. People who buy them rarely get them as drops, but people who actually kill for them do.
Also, most of us can keep track of them because we buy them by the stacks (A stack being 250 each). So it’s just basic math as long as we keep track of how many stacks we buy.

Personally I think buying coffers, rich or normal, is a mug’s game. I haven’t been keeping count of how many coffers I’ve obtained so far from drops (probably a couple of stacks’ worth), but I’ve gotten three knight minis to date (kept one and sold the other two), haven’t gotten any tickets or wing covers yet but there’s plenty of time yet. The only thing I don’t like about the items I’ve gotten from the coffers so far is that fireworks are soulbound, so there’s nothing to do with them but set them off once you’ve gotten your fireworks achievement. It’s kind of irksome to see them stacking up in one of the slots in your character’s backpack when you don’t particularly want to set them off any more and you have no way to get rid of them except throwing them away, but you hate to throw anything away.

As I intimated in my previous post, it seems that people who are actually going out and killing enemies to get coffers as loot appear to have a more satisfactory experience with the contents than those who rely on buying them from the TP. It may be completely subjective, of course, but that’s how it looks. And it’s a lot cheaper, too.
Just some numbers to compare. At least one way of looking at things.
According to Wiki the drop rate of the Weapon ticket = 0.04 % in a sample size of 40,343
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon_Coffer/drop_rate
Looking at Spidy: Coffer = 2 s 02 b – sell price and 2 s 01 b – buy price
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/43357 and on the Spidy home page: 100 gems sell for 2 g 15 s 82 b
RNG is just that RNG, you can get it on the first try or never. BUT.
1 Jade ticket / 0.04 % = 2,500 coffers
2,500 × 2 s 02 b = 50 g 50 s
50 g 50 s / 2 g 15 s 82 b (price of selling gems)= 23.39 times x 100 = 2339.9 gems
You can only buy 800 and 1600 gems = 2,400 gems and that will cost you $ 30 usd.
So a Jade ticket is about $ 30 usd
New Guilds Wars 2 game = $ 49.99 usd.

Ew
I found out if you stop caring then you’ll get them.

I blew 2k gems on ritch, and have opened a ‘few’ thousand from the world, no luck.
‘Dems da wolls’
Not upset, madbro or thinking everyone should quit this game. ;-P
It would be nice if there was another way than a very low random chance to get the skins.
(Tradeable tickets, tickets for gems, skins for gems, etc)
Tho thanks ANet for the nice hat(s) and mini-pets & wings!
Making these tickets so that everyone gets it reduces its worth. I honestly want to keep these things exclusive. Its a gambling thing. Sometimes you’re lucky, other times you arn’t . This whole rng is bad trend of threads is kind of annoying. Just be happy that at least other people with fewer game time are able to achieve exclusive content.
I personally got 4 tickets from 1.4k coffers. If you haven’t gotten one going through 1000 coffers that is kind of unfortunate. Just keep trying exclusive content is in ever mmo.

There is a BIG difference in exclusive content that is player skill based, guild / team based, and exclusive content that is just RNG / luck.
Considering this RNG is controlled by a computer anyway, I wish they would include some pseudo RNG elements – that is, the more you open, the more your chance of getting a rare increases, and once you get a rare the probability resets. You could still have a very high threshold and never an absolute garuntee, but Ive seen people open 3000, even 6000 without getting a ticket, which to me is bs. They are getting screwed through no fault of there own, and those with skins are being rewarded for being lucky. I get that’s how gambling works, but pseudo RNG allows for people to be lucky while making it much more difficult to just be SOL no matter how many you buy. I’m talking like, 5000 boxes. Your pretty kitten unlucky still, but at least you had something to show at the end of it.
Another 1k coffers hunter here… 4 knights, no tickets. No longer going to farm em, this is just stupid. Grats anet, more artwork that no one will ever see.

It’s actually worse that your numbers. If each coffer gives a 0.04% chance of returning a ticket, then opening 2500 gives only a 63% chance of getting (at least) one ticket.
The real problem is Anet just gets their numbers wrong consistently. They really need a new math department.
Drop rate for tickets needs to go up 15%.
Zhataffy cost of wings should be 10,000. Not 100,000.
Confusion nerf should have been 30%, not 50%.
Effigy burning should be 20, not 50.
It’s all just a little off.
My main grip with the tickets is that they spent resources building skins that very, very, very few players will use, instead of spending those resources on things that more people would enjoy. Even more when people are willing to pay for those skins with real money and they still refuse to put them in the gem store.
