The idea of the Dragon Bash festival is good. I can see how the population of Tyria would need a break from the evil dragons… but to really appreciate all of the different activities you need to be powerful and have a lot of resources. Um… like the Zaitan? I know the festival is run by pirates, but it seems a little illogical.

I really liked the Dragon festival in the original Guild Wars because I always felt like I could participate and it was fun – even when I was a new player there were a lot of things I could do. I think this festival has lost the fun element.

100,000 pieces of Zaitaffy for a back piece is unachievable for most people because it would require either huge amounts of gold or an endless grind. Even if players participate in Dragon Ball – which I do find very fun – the prize is just a single coffer. I imagine that the cost to bid on the moa races restricts a lot of people from getting that achievement/mini, too.

The whole festival seems to promote “every man for himself”. High level characters are having a much easier time of the coffer farming in newbie areas and the holographic battles usually last for less than 5 seconds. I see other people have posted about hologram etiquette, but I don’t think it’ll catch on because the rewards for just killing the mobs and getting on with the grind are too high.

It’d be nice to have a more balanced festival. Especially because the developers have obviously put a lot of time into the update. The music and decorations are great (and I think the loading screen for Lion’s Arch is awesome). It just seems to be missing the fun of the original festivals.

On the bright side, the main event is yet to come. Maybe there’ll be something good to even the odds a little. I wouldn’t mind some Zaitaffy raining from the heavens.

Don’t have enough gold? Just buy gems and trade them.
Come on, you know that’s what Anet wants you to do.

I do agree that 100,000 pieces of Zhaitaffy is excessive, but prices for Zhaitaffy have been falling ever since the event started. Within a week or two, I imagine you’ll find that it’s sunk so much that you could buy them for 5 copper (or less) each.

You can also just buy the Holographic Dragon Wings outright on the TP. It’s currently sitting around 30g, which is actually MUCH cheaper than it would be to buy up Zhaitaffies or Jorbreakers to exchange for the Wings. Again, as the event goes on and more supply gets introduced into the game, you can expect prices to fall further.

Finally, the Moa Races are actually a cleverly disguised gold sink. The odds are weighted in such a manner that over time, for every 50 silver you spend, you’re only winning back 44 silver. It is there to leech money away from wealthy players; the minis are there only to lure people into using it. The smart thing to do is to stay away from the Moa Races altogether, or to only spend what you can afford to lose.

Because the Races are here to stay permanently, if you’re after the achievement, you can get it sometime down the line when you do have the money to drop on it, so don’t sweat trying to get it now.

These candies drop at the same frequency if not more than candy corn and they have less uses. I suspect they will hit 2-3c by the end of the event, meaning you can buy enough for the wings with 20g-30g. Hardly unreasonable, and that is considering you buy all of them and didn’t farm at all.

I agree that the every man for himself is annoying, especially with the pinatas and holo projectors. This game was built around being cooperative and fun to have friends around and now these two things have taken a complete 180 on that concept.

what are you talking about? pinata behave like resources nodes, instanced for each character.

holographic projectors are competitive though.

yes, every man / guild party for himself / themselves.
