Just my thoughts on weapon skins tickets in the past months. You may feel same or not, feel free to writhe your feelings about the topic.

After 2 Living Storys behind us, many of us players where really unsatisfied with the drop rate (or pure luck in reality, rng patchinko gambling) of Keys and Chests or precisely weapon skins tickets in it… only available trought gems and really rarely from drops (lucky ones are lucky)

I did not understand why don’t You guys give us the weapon skins You made for us after all the work You put in creating those…

Why all the players who opened 50, 100, 150 Black Lion Chests in Molten Alliance Living Story didn’t recive a single skin ticket ? Many many posts on forums about peaple who opened sometimes even 200 chests and did not get even 1 skin ticket…

Are You so cunning about money that even after supporting the game for 20, 50 even 100 dollars or euro You still don’t want to give Your supporters a skin rather than that make them feel like “want a skin ? give us Your real money/gold=time spend for farming and we ‘might’ give You a skin or not if youre unlucky”. This is the worst thing you could do…
There is a saying in my sides (tranlations are not the bests but hey)

“The cunning one looses dubble”

Becouse of the rng patchinko gambling many players in the future won’t buy chests from gem store becouse it would just be a waste of their money and I bet no one wants to throw their money away like in a casino.. Sure there are addict-gamblers but it’s not about them it’s about some peaple that are willing to pay 10 or 20 dollars/euro for a month to get a skin token becouse it looks great, and to support the game that they are playing becouse that’s their hobby, anyone put’s money on their hobby it makes us feel good.

Many of us players found it also very unfair that with the support we gave to the game with real money (or how many say support the new Aion expansion pack) and did not gain what we wanted… some got it on 1st try, some tried 100 times and gain nothing.

After that I and many other felt disgusted about supporting the game… and “We are sorry” You can keep for yourselves I got full closet of “sorrys”. With your action you lost many active supporters.

But the Dragon Coffers put a light in the darkness, there is hope to have a weapon skin without real money/gold but just with playing the game, sure there is a 0.0000000000000000001% chance for that skin IMO (hearind someone opened 3k for 2 tickets make my head spin…) but it’s a good thing that You can be rewarded with a skin for only playing your regular game – this is good I like this.

I still feel somehow bad but I like to have hope future will be better, or the new upcomming MMO’s like Wildstar (yet both are NCsoft witch hurts me a bit… yet I did not interest how much NCsoft has influence over both titles) will steal the players that even releasing a new content pach won’t help.

Actually Arena-net didn’t fail us completely this time. This new system is highly improved over last two ticket systems, so I would relax.

I got a ticket under 450 regular coffers, one guy got 4 in 1,750, others have gotten one or two under 1,000, and yes… some haven’t gotten a ticket in multiple 1,000’s (on the bad end of the RNG system). Right now you can get a ticket under 28g on average… that’s roughly the same as 900 gems, which only buys 10 rich coffers for likely 1/2 the chance, since I believe tickets from Rich Coffers are 1 in 25 chance.

In otherwords, Arena-net made is decentily affordable/easy to obtain 16 weapon tickets for under 400-500g, which is WAY better then the estimates I had for black lion keys(fused weapons) which was well over 2800g in gems at 1 ticket per 50 chest, or the last weapons which I only got 1 ticket after kitten crates.

I would give Arena net a pat on the back for this time around, they didn’t do a bad job, I still think tickets could be implemented in a better method with less RNG.

Say, every 1,000 gems spent you get a “point” and these points can be used to exchange for ticket skins. So say 2 points for a garenteed ticket, this way you are not being COMPLETELY screwed when purchasing gems and supporting the game.

Anecdotal evidence is just a single person’s experience with the system. I haven’t been counting how many coffers I’ve opened so far, but I’d estimate at least five hundred or so, and haven’t received a ticket.

The only halfway rigorous analysis I’ve seen is here, and while the actual percentage is still fluctuating a bit (due to the law of large numbers or, rather, the opposite) it’s pretty safe to say that the odds of getting a ticket are under 0.05% – which means statistically you need to open two thousand boxes to get a ticket. If you’re one of the people humblebragging that you’ve got a ticket in a few hundred or a handful of tickets in a few thousand… you’re an outlier.

By comparison, the Risen Knight mini at something a little under 1% is flooding the market. It’s something that most people are only ever going to want one or two of… and I already have five. It’s going to be a long time before they become scarce enough to be worth anything – and in the meantime, we have something account-bound that players may potentially want to get multiples of (the tickets) proving harder to get than celestial minis were in the GW1 CNY events while an item with strictly limited demand is glutting the market. It’s insane.

It may be better than it was, but it’s still far from being good, and other threads on this forum (such as the one about low-level zones being flooded by high-level players coffer farming so that the lowbies can’t even get kills for heart completion) show that it’s having knock-on effects that are detrimental to the game as a whole, not just to people who are looking to get a ticket or two.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

It would just be really nice if they would say that if you spend x amount of gems on rich coffers without getting a ticket, then they would go ahead and mail you a ticket out of courtesy. Maybe it would come with a note that says sorry about your luck, thank you for playing with us and good luck during the next event? That would get me to buy!

I’ve opened well over 2000 regular coffers with no skin, a handful of useless potions and some food. I also bought about 5 gem store coffers.

I’m never buying another gem from Arenanet because it’s a complete waste of money.

It is sad that Anet is killing there own game with the RNG. I am also never spending another dime on this game. So far this game has cost me more than a monthly sub game would have due to liking to have bag space for my alts and the like. I know its not neccesary but i am sick of getting nickle and dimed for basic stuff. And come on “skins” provide no in game advantage so wtf should the be made so impossible to get….

Skins are endgame for alot of people. Especially the hardcores that have grinded out countless dungeons and have nothing to work for other than legendaries. It is a pity that these skins are only available through RNG/luck and not through hard work. It’s fractals all over again, except this time you have the option to roll the dice with your real money as well. I would be fine with this if there were a myriad of skins to work towards, but outside of legendaries and the joke rng fotm weapons there is nothing. Dungeon armour and wep skins can be attained in a matter of days and are well and truly outdated. Once you have your legendary and all the gear sets you need (not hard), you are left wondering what to do next. Make another legendary? omg how exciting!

Personally as much as I love the game, I am very inclined to stop playing until they add some real content. Dungeons/raids what have you, with skin rewards that depend entirely on your efforts and skills completing them. These living story events are a mix of crappy hand outs for people who expect something for nothing and RNG luck, and after the initial ‘omg something new!’ excitement, everyone’s bored again.

I suppose this is why people are getting so caught up about the RNG skins atm. I went through a good deal of chests but it seems I’m just not one of the lucky ones. I was really rooting for the staff. XD. Good luck to you all ^.^

Still no ticket here. What are the chances to roll 1 on a 50000 side dice? Sure, if 3 million people roll them a lot, a few will get the 1. But it will almost certainly be others, not me.

As long as a more sensible and logical system is not implemented, such as accumulative drop chance, I’m not spending a penny more on this game. The skins are account bound, there is no reason to make them as rare as they are now. No reason to hand them randomly to people who don’t want them and withhold them from people who like them.

Make us solo champions while doing impossible jumping puzzles to obtain the skin. That is a challenge. That is worth something. That is a good way to make something rare. But RNG is just cheap money grab and a waste of a good resource.

I bought a handful during Flame and Frost for the Fused Weapon Tix but got nothing to show for it.

There is a reason why Anet made all dungeons armors cost a fix number of tokens instead of relying on loot tables from boss drops. This is an about turn from their initial design philosophy.

I’m sure the math works out better for the cash shop with RNG involved, but it’s leaving a very sour taste in my mouth, considering I have been rooting for GW2 since 2010.

I’m not giving Anet another cent until I am convinced they are backing off from such opportunistic practices.

I agree… the new way of getting hold of the tickets is how it should be. And with these skins being – like another poster said ‘endgame to the hardcore people’ – the drop chance of 0.1% is ok…ish. I cannot complain because I have got my ticket from 1000 coffers, but it would be somewhat more fair if the RNG included a small factor of accumulative chance – still not guaranteeing result – but at least raising that chance to say 1% or the likes. Each time is completely new still so the end result might remain just as harsh, but at least it’s not an astronomic chance all over every time.

The dragon coffers are definitely an improvement over the ticket distribution in the previous two events.

During Secrets of Southsun I had to cross my fingers and hope not to get a ticket, every time I opened a crate I got as a drop. I’d have felt horrible about getting something realIy rare that I would just destroy because I wouldn’t want to be caught dead with one of those terrible looking sclerite weapons, while most people who would like one couldn’t get one despite spending heaps of cash.

With Dragon Bash, I can just sell the coffers and make heaps of in-game cash from those same people. Hurrah!

Currently up to 5 tickets. 2 from rich coffers. 3 from about 1500 regular. Not quite sure where all the competition for the holograms are. I was leveling my warrior through a couple zones yesterday, one low level and one higher level and there were hardly anyone around, and I am on one of the more populated servers.

Still have 3 weeks or so on this event so keep plugging along. I hope to get a few more just to save the skins in the bank for possible future use.

That might be true now that I think of it. I got a ticket (no minis so far, buy a guildie gave me one ) after opening an estimate of between 150 and 200 coffers, but I always open them as soon as I get them, which makes me think it might be the case of people that have bought 1000’s of them at the same time with no luck.

I have no problem with the system now. I’ve already resigned to the fact I will never purchase RNG stuff from the gem store after getting burned in the past. It’s really that simple. I still plan on buying gems for other items on the gemstore (non-RNG), but any of those chests, absolutely not. That’s problem solved.

Not sure why so many people continue to get burned with RNG gem store purchases like they haven’t learned their lessons the first couple of times. I’m also not sure why people get so kitten ed they vow to quit or never spend another penny in the gemstore. Isn’t the RNG the problem? There are other purchases available that are not RNG and likely will be more in the future. Also, from casually playing I’ve obtained at LEAST 350 coffers. And when I say casual I mean 1-2hrs each day just doing dailies, killing holos, doing events. Anyone serious enough about getting coffers for the chance of the ticket could get far more chances. From what I understand once you get in the 2000-3000 range and haven’t gotten a ticket yet, that you are quite unlucky and no longer in the norm. Since everyone is just claiming BS on their coffer numbers there is no way to prove this.

I promise that almost everyone who has said “I’ve opened thousands and got nothing! Anet sucks!!!” has only opened a few hundred but want to make their points anyway.

This this THIS! This is what I have been saying!

You buy 5 coffers? Didn’t get anything? Well, here’s a skin ticket, sorry!

What’s so hard about that? People spend their MONEY on this chance to get something the like and the have nothing to show for it just because they’re unlucky? And if people think “Bu bu but then they would sell fewer!” … when you make something truly good and appealing often time people want more than ONE. So they would come back for the chance for more or to just get another one.

And WHY are the Rich Coffer’s drop rate so kitten low!?!? If you’re gonna ram RNG into everything then atleast give the RNG people pay off aswing in the payer’s favor. i’m sure many more would buy Rich Coffers if the chances of getting a skin where 50/50 or something along those lines.

After buying 7 and getting nothing I’m simply never gonna spend a gem on RNG again. Heck, I’m brand new to MMOs so when I found out that "HEY! It’s common practice to have something called a “wardrobe system” in your MMO! Ya know, something that allows you to keep the same look regardless of gear or to change you looks on the fly without having to worry about gear skins being gone forever!" I decided to never by another lev-80 trans stone. Until they fix a system like that … I simply wont give them anything to change my look.

The way this game is progressing, I’m not sure I will ever buy another gem from Anet again. Thanks for the 3 useless minis for purchasing of gems – a hollow gesture at best.

Current statistics show a drop rate of 0.05%.

Statistically, this makes the probability of not receiving a ticket after x tries is 0.9995 to the power of x. So the odds of having no ticket after 2000 openings is 36.8%, and after 3000 openings, 22.3%. They’re in the minority, yes, but hardly such a small minority as to classified as abnormal.

I thought this was pretty obvious. The Coffers are like a lottery ticket – thus, I didn’t buy any because I don’t do that kind of stuff because I don’t feel very lucky, I guess.

However, I’ve made other gem purchases – in concrete things, slots, appearance changes, want that quaggan backpack don’t judge. These things are “what you see is what you get”. The Coffers were a lottery ticket, if people mistook them for something else I don’t really know what to say.

If anything, I think ANet needs to work on communication. Players knowing they’ll have a chance next year would probably make half the complaints go away. Some things could be changed, structurally. There could be more things to spend the Zaitaffy on that would provide a more modest reward for players who weren’t extremely lucky – something where you could log on, gain the currency and then see what you could afford at the end – so that everyone could have a little “something” even if not everyone got the biggest, shiniest something.
