Do I need to hold onto this in my bank forever to apply to the best cape I’ll ever receive, or can I stick it on whatever cape I’m wearing now, and then when I get a better cape, transmute the image of [the cape with the skin attached] to the new cape? So basically:

Cape A —-—> apply dragon wings
Cape A has dragon wings
Acquire Cape B
Cape B has better stats
Transmutation stone on Cape A, apply to Cape B
Cape B looks like dragon wings?

Can I do this? Or once I use the wings, is it stuck there, and can’t be moved to a new item with transmutation stones?

You could always jsut try using a trans stone and see if it works. You can cancel the change before commiting to it. My guess though, you can transmute it to any backpiece you want. Just becareful of upgrading via the Mystic Forge. You can lose your skin that way. If you gonna do that, just get a whole new back piece to upgrade, upgrade it, and then transmute afterwards.

I don’t have anything for the back slot yet, so I assumed it was capes.
What I’m asking is if I used the wings on an item, could I then rip the look of it off that item and put it onto another item with a transmutation stone?

The skin applies to the back piece of your choice just like any other item. When you want to trasmute it again, the skin will still become an option to move to the next item.

In reality you can transmute the skin as much as you want as long as you have the lvl 80 stones and you don’t acidently transmute the wrong skin.

I regularly transmute all my stuff as I level alts. Get in the habit of always putting the item with the skin you want on the left and the other item on the right. That way the first thing you click will be the skin and if you screw up the rest, you can always get another stat item.
