Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…
(edited by UnknownFreak.2805)
I have played around 20 games, and I find it utterly boring…
Why?
There are several reasons, I have only won 3 games,, I admit it was fun, but then things changed… enemy team zerg and how many in your team is away from keyboard… ALL EXCEPT YOU!
How fun is this. I have ragequitted last 10 games just cause even before the game starts ppl is away from keyboard. If I’m lucky one more in my team is there. I get farmed, instakilled by five ppl camping spawn, you 1 against 5, ally is away and random spawns. I do not find how this should count in the achievements if ppl just zerg, and your team is away.
Am I the only one? or more ppl have this problem?
Please discuss.
(edited by UnknownFreak.2805)
I have this problem too. People should be kicked from the mini game after staying idle for a whole match imo.
When both teams are working together and playing to win, Dragonball is a blast. Once I find an instance like that, I keep playing as long as I can.
But when only one team is working together (or, even worse, when one team has AFKers), the game falls apart very quickly. Then it’s very easy to get frustrated.
When that happens to me, I play the game through, drop the instance and go looking for another. It may take a few tries, but usually I can find a good one pretty quickly.
I echo the above sentiments.
When people are actually playing, this game is a blast. Last night it was a ton of fun. So much better than Crab Toss.
But today every match I’ve played has between 1-3 people on my team AFK, that’s assuming I even have a five person team to begin with. Half of the games have begun 5-3 with me being the only person not akitten. The other half have five on my team with the other team akitten. This isn’t fun.
ArenaNet, maybe stop making PvP minigames until you can figure out how to make a matchup system? Or maybe stop making it so you can get achievements by akitteng matchups?
Some players hate any form of pvp or so called minigames like crab toss or keg brawl, but they are forced to do it. Is not players fault.

There is no way they are forced to play them. The dragon ball related achievements don’t even count towards the meta achievement. They should just stay out of the game and stop ruining our fun.
If a player enter a team and go AFK, how is it not the player’s fault? Would it be ok for someone to get in a dungeon with 4 more people and go AFK?
I don’t blame them. You cannot force people to play something they don’t like. Change the achievements to not count towards the wings progress and everything will be fine.
Edit: I just saw that they don’t count, so a little info would have been nice.
Boring? Hardly.
Its the most enjoyable minigame so far after the Super Adventure Box. In fact, its actually more enjoyable than sPvP for me.
Its dynamic, it requires skill, it requires map and flow knowledge and actual strategy, it requires teamwork – it rewards those who play smart/good. The only downside i seen are random teams where outcome of matches depends on who you get with you – very often i carry matches literally myself, seeing as a lot of people play it for 1st time and dont know all nuances yet, other times you get 2 or even 3 people Akitteng just to get an achivement.
However, when the teams are balanced and you and enemy have skilled players that actually get how it works – its a blast. Its a better designed combat flow than any existing sPvP map. Sure – its a pretty much classic map, but none less its one of the best – reminding of playing Quake or Unreal Tournament. The health and weapon bonuses empower it even further.
I would consider some kind of better rewards, since once you get achivement theres no reason to play for rewards – seeing as you get 1 chest, which is equal to killing 1 mob in open world… But other than thakittens very very fun, and i would not mind it staying in the game long term.
Seriously, i did not had such fun duels and multiple people encounters since long time in spvp and wvw.
Yes, dragonball blows. It is the first PvP minigame released that I don’t like. It’s a zergfest pure and simple… the team that stays together wins. Halloween, Wintersday, and Southsun minigames were all a blast (crabtoss was the best for me).
Ironically I had an easier time winning the indivdual crabtoss (I had like 95% win rate) than this team based game which should theoretically be easier to win since half the players win every match. But unlike sPvP, there is really little way that individual skill or effort can make up for a team that won’t stay together. The zergier team will win every time.
But unlike sPvP, there is really little way that individual skill or effort can make up for a team that won’t stay together.
You cant be further from truth.

I’d like to see you win a game when all of your teammates are individually getting picked off by a mob of 5 enemies. Or beating a group of 5 enemies on your own for that matter. Yes you can win by telling your teammates to stick together, but that hardly equates to skill.
Now I have played GW2 since beta and it seems that the community has come down to who zergs who. All parts of the game have resorted to this in spvp you get ran down by 8 people or wvw where they have 60 man zergs. In dragon ball I have been spawned camp by people where the other team gets all the buffs then just stand there picking you of as you come out.
You should try to get into tPvP. If you run with a coordinated team, you will not lose to a zerging team.
Also, I agree dragonball is a zerg fest. You could beat it if your team was coordinated, but you can’t even join the matches as a group. What gives?
I played 24 games total and won 20 of them….it’s not hard. Just gotta L2P

He’s not talking about difficulty he’s talking about the idle people that are ruining this game atm. Anet have to sort this out. People are just loading in then heading off to work/school or whatever then coming back to pick up their candy at the end of the day.
Too many people I see are finishing the game on 0 points.
You get zero you should get kicked out and have to rejoin.
In this mini-game it’s actually easy to ‘carry’ your team. I win about 75% of the games. It’s all about the kills, unless pvp where you need to hold different points etc. But ye the idle people are an annoyance.
You get zero you should get kicked out and have to rejoin.
No. People can get zero points because of a bunch of reasons, like the rest of the team is away and the other team is zerging on the only one that is actually playing the game or simply being new to it. Being idle for a whole match should be the reason for kicking someone from the mini game. Being unable to kill even one player does not mean that the person should be kicked.
For example, I remember playing with this one person that couldn’t kill a single player for two matches. Turns out she didn’t know she could toggle auto-attack on skill 1. After I told her, she improved match after match.
I agree, dragonball is boring. Just call target, tell your teammate to stick together, usually GG. No need other strategy, just zerg enemy to die. (The only thing different if there is a player who has master the map and dodge).
Crab toss is fun, wintersday is fun, halloween (all 2) is also fun, keg brawler is also fun. But this …. boring.

Yeah, this. There are matchups with AFKers here and there, but I just pop in and out until I find a match that has both teams being active. When both are working their hardest for that win… SO much fun! xD One of my favorite mini games so far.
It can be a blast, when both teams are well matched, otherwise, if only 1 team cooperates, or there are Akitten people, it becomes a frustrating pain in the kitten.
It has promise, but needs work. Like, improve targeting, why is my character shooting all over but not at the enemy in front of me. In a fast paced game like this, I expect to shoot at whatever I look at.
And why are there inductions in a fast paced PvP game?
Overall its a nice spoof of a Q3 arena map. The flow is decent, but the targeting, inductions and no way to kick afkers and balance teams are a problem. I would add a block/reflect skill, like, when you press the right mouse button, you raise a shield and bounce the ball back but loose some endurance.
This game needs four things:
1.- No free team switches.
2.- Autobalance.
3.- A tournament mode in which only parties can enter (but still get replacements from solo joiners if one quits the party and leaves).
4.- A narrator cue saying “Stick together” after saying “match begins”.
For spawn camping wait the 15 seconds for random map spawn and don’t go out through entrance. As for the akitten people it sucks and ruins the game that’s true but all in all it’s a fun mode and alternative from usual pvp, WvW, and pve. Sadly I don’t think it will be staying around after dragon bash but I hope it gets them wanting to make a death match style spvp mode.
It`s not boring, it`s just an extremely crap rip off of Quake.
That combined with entering a map &….
I agree with the tournament mode or just well entering with parties it would be so much nicer if you could have it more organized.
Punishment for switching seems like a nice idea but should you be punished for wanting to jump on a team that someone you know happens to be on or just your team not cooperating or the highly unlikely switching to the losing team xD…
Autobalance would be nice but then you have the problem of people complaining because they were on the winning side right up to the end and then they lose just because people rage quit the moment things went south. If anything I would be more in favor of temporary AI controlled partners.
Why?
There are several reasons, I have only won 3 games,, I admit it was fun, but then things changed… enemy team zerg
That was my problem too that I noticed. Essentially numbers win. Doesn’t matter if you have skill or such, 4 people spamming #1 at you are going to plow you down. Just zerg through your enemies.
AFKers = immediate leave
Incomplete team = immediate leave
I’m not going to waste my time playing a game knowing I will lose no matter what I do.
I love this minigame, myself, although I can see why some do not enjoy it.
I wholeheartedly agree on the imbalance of the teams, though.
The start seems to be more important: whoever has the first few kills seems to keep it going, and when you have only 2 starting against a full team, it makes it frustrating.
I also agree on fixing the reward system to make it more enticing for a losing team to keep going. 1 coffer for winning, nothing for trying, isn’t a motivation, aside from an achievement.
Hmmm personally its a step lower than the wintersday event for me it had a similar feel to the wintersday event without the concept of class arrangement since everybody has the same moves (mostly just scrambling for the buffs or zerging in larger numbers since the game’s objective is simply deathmatch rather than take the point or capture the flag).
So in reality no I don’t really find it fun its missing a few things of course team imbalances, lack of actual escape mechanisms (pretty much when you’re getting chased by a group you might aswell just stand still and take the hits and die not a lot is gonna save except for the invisibility which barely shows up).
Sort of incomplete event but as some of us who have played gw2 for a while that seems to be a trending norm

If its in the PVE achivements section as a completionist player, yes you are forced to play kitten useless pvp.
This is why I loved crab toss so much. How many people did you see go Akitten there? Next to none because they could not possibly get anything from doing so.
However people who akitten constantly in Dragonball will, theroiticly, get all the achivements eventually.
Also, notice how we don’t have any threads whining that dragonball is too hard? This is becuase players don’t HAVE to learn how to play the game to get the achivements.
Once again Anet caters for the people that just want GW2 to be a cow clicker and not an MMO.

You say that like if “completionism” was some kind of medical condition. You are mistaking “need” for “want”.
There is no excuse for doing what these people are doing. If you don’t like the game, don’t play it, but don’t get in the way of people that like it.
Oh so you don’t want to play, but you want to get the achievement for playing it? Tell me again how you should get an achievement for something that you never achieved.

it takes all of 2 minutes to rejoin. If you are in a team full of idle leeches why the hell would you want to stick around and lose match after match?

I have no idea because (luckily) it still didn’t happen to me. Usually, there is one or maybe two players away in my team, so I stick around and hope for the best. However, I can see a lot of players complaining about that, you know? “THEY were away, I was not, why did I get kicked too? Now it will take five more minutes for me to get the Devotee achievement!”
keep trying until u get a group that sticks together.
u need to zerg in order to win in this game.
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS!
As a former quake2/3 player this mini game is a blast, actually rewards smart players that can learn the map and where are the different items (and their timer), also you need to be creative to use skills and know when to retreat. Yes, Akitten people are a huge problem (but still managed to win games with akitten ppl in my team), they should get kicked after a couple mins. Also prizes awefull, at least the game is great.
Just finished 20 games in a row, with 20 wins

All this may well be true, but is entirely irrelevant if the first time you join your team is all AFK, the enemy is a nicely coordinated mob, and you spend the entire match (or until you click the exit button) tasting floor as a result. No reason to learn maps or cultivate any kind of skill when your initial experience with the game is just… blugh. Especially for a game mode that seems like it’s supposed to be more random fun than it is srs bzns pvp.
It’s purely a coin toss. You get a team that gets camped like punks or you get a team that cats all over the other team. Might as well have dragon coin flip.
It’d probably be better as a 5 man free for all.
It’d probably be better as a 5 man free for all.
Now you’re onto something.
It doesn’t even come close to the snowball arena but it’s not bad. I like it much better than crab toss (which says more about crab toss than it does about dragonball). The zerg meta of Dragonball feels like mini WvW. If your team doesn’t stick together and theirs does, you will more than likely lose.
The snowball arena felt like it had a better balance. It had a very high skill ceiling, it massively rewarded team work (and not just in the form of zerging) and it also had great opportunities for individuals to carry. You could snipe carriers, you could shield your own carriers, you could sneak behind enemy lines and you could protect your own carrier or work with your team to take down the enemy team’s carrier. There was just far more depth and complexity to snowball arenas. Dragon ball rewards knowledge of power ups and heals. It can have fun skirmishes but very little of this matters when it usually comes down to which team zergs together. Even things like shielding your own team are overshadowed by how easy it is to spike down people. It’s similair to how dungeons are usually reduced to five people DPSing together instead of co-operating and using team work.
I’ve seen people who can carry a team in Dragonball but that often has to do with having a group of several baddies.
Dragon Ball is Boring.
I was on the zerg when people on the enemy team were afk, and quitting, sure its free easy wins but, at one point it got so bad at so many of them were afk, that we couldn’t finish the game because no one was coming out.
Then they quit and we couldn’t Finnish the game, whats with the 30 minute timer?
that is ridiculous.
This saint on my team had to join the enemy team so we could kill him over and over just to end the game because the whole enemy team rage quit.
Also if we have to wear our pvp gear, and we have the pvp exp bar showing, why do we not get any glory points for it?
I love this minigame, myself, although I can see why some do not enjoy it.

Yeah, I just had a go at it myself, and matches do seem to quickly become very one-sided.
I think it’s partly because of the powerups – a team that gets the early advantage can also start building up powerups, so even if the team that comes off second best does get their act together, they’re facing an opponent that’s now just plain better armed than them, and they’re likely going to keep losing. Compared to GW1 dragonball when I’ve seen teams rally and win from scores like 10-18… this is less than interesting. You can probably figure out who’s going to win a particular matchup with high accuracy within the first minute… or less.
It’d probably be better as a 5 man free for all.
FFA is easier to do than team so good suggestion
I’m not sure of everyone elses experience of this gametype but I love it…
Frobolicious (my asura Guardian) has a lot of fun :P
His record is 19 kills 0 deaths, people talk about zerging etc lol thats what they put skill 5 in for. If you keep moving and are constantly on the run you don’t die, figure out where the heals are and use them like clockwork. Also DODGE
I’m 22/25 win/game ratio and loving it (2 losses due to awayfromkey team yes… :P) its a game of mechanics/teamwork, see an enemy chasing your friend, make them pay for it, vice versa don’t over dedicate to a kill, stay alive.
(edited by MagiKarp.8201)
They should have made hotjoin matches and matches where you can team up. That way, you can have a blast with your guildies, instead of desperately trying to synch into a team, only to be mixed after the first match.. What happened to that “play with your friends” kind of thing they wanted for us.
Also, kick players that don’t move for over a minute please. It’s getting ridiculous.
I’ll give it another shot, but I’ll doubt it will be fun if I’m either in the zerging team or in the other, I wan’t even and fun fights. Not getting zergstomped at spawn. Sometimes I don’t even get to pickup #2 skill nor upgrade #1.
some changes that may improve this.
1. Larger arena?
2. FFA (mentioned earlier by Healix.5819)
3. lager health pool?
It is fun imho. I don’t really whine about akitten players since I know they happen in EVERY GAME on earth where people can get “a taxi”.
What I hate about this mini game is the fact that you often jump in to a game which was on for couple of minutes and so, I had to leave many games simply because when I joined we were already losing by 160/200/even 320 points!!! Even Jesus wouldn’t help here >< Fix this Anet.
I absolutely love Dragon Ball. Best MMO minigame I have seen in a loooong time.
Just leave the instance when you are not satisfied with your party and join back in.
L2P. Yes, sometimes shiz happens and you end up on a duff team of noobs and afker’s. simple fix is leave and re-join until you are satisfied. After you get past this issue that all random match-up format games suffer from this is actually quite a fun mini-game requiring spatial awareness, good reflexes and a certain amount of cruelty to pick on the enemy with your team mates. Points are earned by killing members of the opposing team so naturally 2v1 or better is a very valid strategy but this does not necessarily equate a win as knowing were all the dragon balls and heal balls are and if they are currently active can help tip the numbers buy increasing DPS and/ or mitigating damage. Lastly it is also very easy to lose an enemy via clever use of launch pads and side tunnels. (also remember you take no fall damage so launching yourself over empty air is a very smart move as well.)
And I played the 20 games it required for the achievement, but that achievement didn’t count toward the achievement for the Shatterer wings. Why is that?
I can’t agree with the fun, two more games , I just do not like it, I’ll never play kittenain.
first game: 180 – 0, was in the loosing team, Again. left immediately
second game: 3 ppl was akitten again… I stayed for 30 seconds. No difference..
Think I am more of a WvW player than PvP. And I prefer sneaky attack over zerging there.
