How you you use the Investigation kit .. I have tried targeting and pressing 1 .. but noting happens?

Do you have Fast Casting enabled? If so, try standing on top of the NPCs as best you can. If that doesn’t work, re-enter the instance and try again, or turn off Fast Casting for this.
