I’ve finished the whole murder mystery story behind the effigy ceremony and the part which I got really unsatisfied about is the last instance, where Mai Trin is revealed to be the murderer and “BAM!”. She reveals her plot before she escapes and calls her backup. I find it disappointing that there’s so little depth to the story and it seems to me that it was pretty much of a half-hearted attempt in developing this story.

Now what got me really unsatisfied and confused is how did Marjory even came to the conclusion that Mai was the culprit. So I took the scanner and scanned Mai for a second time in the instance and now it’s revealed that she’s the murderer, but didn’t she prove her “innocence” previously by saying that she tried to “revive/heal” the charr representative whom had been exposed to the arcane residue previously? Marjory said that she made tweaks to the scanner but didn’t really reveal what and how it would have led to her changing her judgement of Mai (if this is the case then it would have reiterated my point on the story lacking depth). Maybe I’ve missed out something here… Anyone care to point out?

Since this thread itself is a spoiler, I’ll avoid the tag.

Remember you logged the arcane sample from Vorrk? Basically Mai’s initial excuse is that she was touching the charr, who had been part of adding the ingredients that caused the explosion. Each of the representatives added individual ingredients, but the culprit would have been the only one to handle them all (theoretically).

Now that Marjory had samples from each of them (you had to log Vorrk’s because he was dead, the others could arrive and provide it then), she could fine-tune it to only look for those specific samples instead of just general arcane residue. She states that she recalibrated the box to look for the combination of ingredients. The representatives would have been cleared because they only handled their own, but Mai was revealed because the box detected them all.

The tweaked scanner settings pointed her out.

We brought back all of the suspects. Each one of them had been exposed to just one part of the magic that was used to cause the fire to explode and and kill the captain. She tweaked the scanner then had us (the player) re-scan everyone with the new settings. This showed that each one had handled a part of the bomb but only one part each. When we scanned Mai, the scanner showed that she had been exposed to all the different parts. Had she been innocent she would only have been exposed to the same part the Charr was.

Beaten to the punch while trying to figure out the spoiler tag.
