Starcakes are the worst PTW scenario in the game. Is anyone else concerned about this?

In what way?
Everyone is fully able to buy them on the TP, so I don’t really see the issue.
Another thing to keep in mind is that they are extremely expensive to make and far from the best food in the game.

Not to mention the fact that were supposed to be from the coffers, but unfortunately weren’t due to either an oversight or a bug. They were going to be a gamble along with all the other cosmetic rewards we got from the chests. The only reason why everyone who got them was because of the incident. If it hadn’t been for that, then not everyone who payed gems to buy the Rich Coffer would have gotten them.

Starcakes are not pay to win because the boost they give sucks and the materials are overpriced.

Kralkachocolate on the other hand is pretty cool.

Pfft, everyone knows that it’s the candied dragon rolls that are the clear winners here!

The recipe is account bound and can’t be traded/sold. I think that makes it a ‘pay in gems only’ item and even then not a guaranteed one. As a cooking recipe collector this is somewhat disappointing.

Successful opportunism is often indistinguishable from a masterful plan.

Yeah, I’m in the same boat. While the Starcake boost is nice, it’s far too expensive for me to use on a regular basis. I just want to add the recipe to my collection so my Master Chef can continue to cook EVERYTHING.

The problem, however, is that the current system does not allow for differentiation in recipes. In a world where everyone can craft everything, which is currently so in GW2, the crafting disciplines become worthless.

By limiting the way to get it to gems AND to limit it into RNG, is to increase the value of being a crafter.

Was this the best possible way? No. Absolutely not. But something has to limit top tier recipes, and this is one way. Let’s hope other avenues will be explored in the future.

Pay to win what? In pvp you cant use food, so what are you going to win with all your delicious cakes?

As a collector/completionist I’m also extremely disappointed they’ve gone this route. I only ever expected vanity items to be in the gem store, certainly not recipes. Had I known that I never would have leveled any crafting disciplines (and saved myself a lot of gold). As I mentioned in another thread, this is exactly why I don’t collect minis because I never wanted to feel forced to buy from the gem store to maintain my collections.

Having said that I probably would have reluctantly bought the recipe as an individual purchase, but I will never support their RNG boxes I don’t care what’s in them.

Now not only will my Chef never know all the recipes, but I suppose I can look forward to every RNG event box from now on including something like recipes to try and sucker people who aren’t interested in weapon skins into buying them. Awesome. -_- It definitely crossed the “that’s not cool” line for me.

I’m going to ignore your spamtastic announcer and boring PvP and play my delicious PvE content with my omnomberries, starcakes and everything else that’s unique and special.

So gold to gems isn’t feasible? That’s what I did when I wanted the recipe…

Wait for a fair-ish trade rate between the two currencies and trade.

that’s how I unlocked character slots and bag space.

Not the same thing. You didn’t have to buy RNG boxes and hope you got character slots and bag space as drops. If the recipe were a separate purchase then you’d have a point.
