Low populations servers
now that you have taken away the only down side to being on a high population server
Not really, high pop server will still have a long queue to the real WvW, the EotM won’t cont for anything in the WvW, it will be just a lobby for people to wait.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Its looking like the new map will be even more fun than the current ones. There are devs who think the new map will pull players from the old maps. Also lots of players dont care about ppt. There isnt much that points to people caring about the old maps.
Yeah not sure how it is going to pan out considering ppt is not exactly ranked higher than getting good fights, but I would personally would rather contribute while getting fights. Queues are still not bad at all so not sure if it will affect the server pop anyway other than keeping PuGs out of the main WvW maps

The edge of the mists purpose is to be a lobby while waiting to get into the eternal battlegrounds map. ET is the only map which holds any appeal to me. The borderlands are PvDoor, you only run into opposition 2-3 times an hour. The edge of mist as serves to try and convert PvErs into WvWers beacuase WvW is what devs consider the endgame. WvWers probably won’t like the edge of the mists map, it doesn’t contribute to winning the week and its challenges are more similar to PvE than WvW.
Aren’t all server high population already?
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. As a solo roamer on a lower-mid tier server, it could easily provide more entertainment to me, and might pull me away from the normal maps. From the sounds of it, numbers won’t be as big an issue in EotM as they can be in normal matchups for smaller servers, so I could see it pulling a lot of people away.
Aren’t all server high population already?
Nope. There some that really need to world transfers just to do the basic stuff.
Aren’t all server high population already?
They’re all listed as very high population, but the range for that seems to anywhere from almost completely full to a few dozen.
Aren’t all server high population already?
Hardly. Check out Anvil Rock. I guest there often when I have a need to play undisturbed.
Edge of this mists map probably wont change anything. I left Jade Quarry long ago because the Eternal Battleground long queue. Any queue is too long, as I don’t enjoy the borderlands. Unfornately, even the low population servers queues are too long on Friday + Saturday prime times, which is the generally only time I WvW. After reset EB is energized and more fun. By sunday the week is pretty much decided and the fairweathers bugger off for another week.

Don’t know about other servers, but Blackgate hasn’t had queues for quite a while now.
I just hope EoTM won’t be like Obsidian sanctum, packed for a week or two, then absolutely deserted.

Agree. BG doesn’t have queues except on reset nights and the ocassional borderland when a couple WvW guilds take it over.

High population server means the total players on the server, WvW population sometimes is like 5 players.

From somebody in T2 NA, you have that backwards. People actually defend stuff on their border, EB is often just running around taking undefended towers.
Also, it is not a lobby. It has two main purposes: first, as an any-time WvW map. It’s not just for waiting in, some people will go there and stay there. Secondly as a testing area for new mechanics before they are brought into the other WvW maps.
The challenges are not PvE. It’s the same as the WvW maps, there are objectives, capture and hold them to gain PPT. Highest score at the end wins. They have some different mechanics, but that doesn’t make them PvE.

In that case pretty much nothing is changed.

I think that will be the case, in the beginning it will be really popular and everyone wants to test it, then it starts to get “old” and the players will get back to their routines.

High population server means the total players on the server, WvW population sometimes is like 5 players.
High population server means high number of created characters. It has no bearing at all with regard to number of actual players online. The entire server could have 1 person online and it would still be a high pop server if there are enough created characters on it.

This is not correct, population is affected by number online. If it wasn’t, nobody would ever have been able to transfer into the “Full” servers. As it is, you could monitor the servers and wait for a full one to drop to very high.
Servers even organized “black outs” where wvw guilds would all log off at a certain time, and would request people in LA do the same, so that another guild could transfer in and these were quite effective.

In that case, “Very High” is anything above 20 players online, meaning it is just as meaningless.

Server population is not related to WvW map population.

Server population is not related to WvW map population.
Never said or implied that it was.
Devona’s Rest is listed as “Very High”. We can’t get 20 people to ANY in game content for the ENTIRE server because it is dead.
Queensdale champ train? 15 people.
WvW? What’s that?
Marionette? 3 people per lane.
“Very High” is apparently measuring something that means nothing.
Looking at the map design of EoTM (very much like the bloodlust area) I think it’s very possible that it’ll turn out to be a bust (very much like the bloodlust area).
what are you going to do to make people want to stay on the low population servers?
“This doesn’t appear to be common knowledge, so in case you missed it: the WvW version of Edge of the Mists is not against the servers you’ve been matched with this week, but against all servers in the region. You keep the same colour between the Mist War and the Edge of the Mists; as a result, every blue server is on the same Edge of the Mists team.”
A place to find a fair fight even in those weeks when the match-up’s so imbalanced, your underpopulated server’s being flat-out farmed.
Yep, this sure doesn’t help low pop players at all.

Yeah. Lot of times I have to guest over to Blackgate or another high pop server for FG zerg because a lot of the times (i.e. not the weekend) we don’t have the numbers on Crystal Desert to zerg it.
