Theory-crafting warning: please do not read this thread if you’re here to bash on any flaws in what has been speculated. This is purely theory. Other thoughts or adding-on are welcome, however.

She rejected the pale tree and the dream in order to gain her independence. By doing so, she let go of the part of all sylvari that provides immunity to dragon corruption.

What she saw was dragon-related, and now it haunts her. It’s trying to take hold of her. She’s fighting an internal battle between Ceara, the sylvari, and Scarlet, her dragon-corrupted alter ego.

Scarlet is a puppet for an elder dragon, presumably Primodus. By tormenting Ceara through her, Primodus is making Ceara go to great lengths to put an end to the madness she faces. It has resulted in her planning to craft a drill and an army to destroy Primodus, but really all she is doing is allowing him a way to escape from the depths of Tyria, while providing an entire army to corrupt into his minions.

She’s neither good or evil, she’s internally very conflicted. The real evil is the dragon.

From the smallest blade of grass to the largest mountain, where life goes—so, too, should you.

I agree fully with you, though I think the Elder Dragon is not Primodus, but the rumored sixth dragon many call Mordremoth the Jungle Dragon. There is a ton of evidence through out the game that whisper of this dragon,

Look at the Dream when you start as a Sylvari. What to you fight in the end, a Jungle themed Dragon. This could be Mordermoth trying to break into the dream. Now look at all the jungle themed stuff going on with Scarlet. The 3 headed Wurm, Nightmare Court etc…

Yes we have the molten alliance but they really have not done much sense the start. If you look at how the story unfolded, Scarlet has been moving south to the jungles Perhaps to where the Dragon lies.

I like that you framed it as her being tricked into helping the dragon. I think on some level she’s well aware of its influence, it’s just that she doesn’t care. With the recording we heard her interacting with the dragon stating that what’s happened so far is thanks to her, not it. There’s definitely a level of being corrupted but at the same time, there’s a part of her that just doesn’t care about the dragon’s intentions as long as she can do her thing. Though from what’s happened to her over time, it looks like that willful independence is fading away. It’s kind of amazing that she’s been able to retain her personality this much for so long without becoming a mindless puppet.

Wouldn’t this mean that the Soundless are open to the corruption as well?

The soundless are only soundless due to constant meditation and are still connected to the dream, but are able to block it out. What happened to Scarlet is that the dream was totally disconnected.
