Tarnished Love
Why not just post this in the bigger thread?
I chose not to post on that thread because the OP likes them. No need to poop on his opinion and thread. Also, I wanted to point out the overarching design theme of the game is too dark, Gothic, steam punk, and anti life. Which goes beyond the other thread that’s solely about the Love Struck items themselves.
Ehmm weapons are supposed to be “anti-life” due to how they function Jokes aside I think they look awesome, would be even awesomer if there was a non heart version of them…
My guess is that they made the metal bits dark to make the red bits stand out more.
Glowy red jewels stand out a lot better against a darker metal frame than they would against a bright shiny one.

Exactly this. If they had made it red on white, it would look like a candy cane. Wrong holiday.

Maybe you should Google Valentines Day? When you do, go to image search and you’ll find the holiday color scheme is white and red.
:)
While “white and red” sounds good on paper, I think the grey and red color scheme is likely to actually look better in-game. Grey textures frequently have a better range of contrast than ones that are strictly brighter, and these are some pretty detailed textures. And, as Electro said, the red gems and effects stand out better against the darker colors.
While they might not look as “Valentines”-y as white and red might, they don’t look incredibly cheesy, either, which is a pretty big accomplishment when you’re dealing with giant hearts integrated into weapons. It’s a surprisingly tasteful weapon set, which is more than I can say for a lot of (typical non-weapon) Valentine’s Day stuff.
You can even use them after Valentine’s Day!
Now, if only I weren’t too cheap thrifty to spend 70g on a weapon skin. But, such is life.
