Q:

What do you think of the nine capturable mechanics in the EoTM map? Are they fun? Which are worth capturing and which not? Does any side seem like they have an advantage?

I’ve been on the tundra section and have only had a small bit of access to the other mechanics. But I have to say, two of the tundra mechanics are really lame and arguably very weak, and the third is amazing.

1. The Kodan Claw, you basically get one champion guard who wanders a ridiculously large path on the map. It takes a decent size group to down him but it’s easy to just let him walk by. I’ve seen him be useful once, a zerg attacked our gate when he was just in front of it, he provided a HUGE advantage, but that was literally the only occasion in which he was useful in the hours and hours I have been in this map.

2. The Kodan bell spirits. These are worthless, they can solo’d by any player, have horrible easily-kited AI and a tiny leash range. They are basically nothing but free experience, at their worst a minor nuisance.

3. The Kodan Hammer transformation mechanic is amazing, you basically get turned in to a hammer warrior/water ele and it feels awesome. It is also bugged so that you can dodge without any animation, that should probably be fixed ASAP.

However, the Kodan Hammer (our only interactive mechanic) costs A LOT of badges of honor, twenty-five. Do the other purchasable mechanics cost so much? If so, that’s kind of ridiculous, the last thing WvW needs is more badge of honor sinks.

Finally if I may make a suggestion. Having two sets of AI guards in our area is really lame regardless of how useful they are, one of them should be changed to have some kind of interactive affect with the players.

EDIT: What the? I didn’t mark the option for this to be a question. Forums, why you do dis?

In the desert area, we got 3 mechanisms i think.

1 would be the Worm, wich allows us to teleport far away using the worm’s cave. Enemies can’t use it so… you can easily make a zerg appear from nowhere, or escape from there.

2 would be the granades that you can buy in the airport. They cost 25 badges of honour as well, and it creates an air attack that i think (notice, personal opinnion) it’s useless.

3 it’s the possibility to transform yourself into a siege devorator. That slow but steady creature lets you use 3 skills. 1 hits like a ram, 2 teleports 10m away and 3 makes you invisible as long as you don’t move (it lasts 8 seconds).

So… we can be siege devorators, an army of 5 of those guarded by 20-30 enemies can easily take down towers, becuase they are like catapults or rams. Besides that, the other mechanics aren’t that great.

For the north area, i’ve seen 2 of the 3 mechanics.
- Turn yourself into a light, inmune to all damage, nobody can ever hit you until you finish transformation (dealing fire damage area around). It’s great if you want to infiltrate yourself somewhere.
- 2 big cannons that seems to hit really far away. Actually so much far away that you can’t see where if you are in low graphical settings. Might be useful, not so sure.

why do you think we dont need more sinks?

more sinks can never be a bad thing… weak sinks promote inflation and devaluation in every case.

Badges of Honor aren’t a real currency. They are earned and spent in one closed area and most importantly neither badges nor (almost) anything purchased with them can change hands through trade. Doesn’t matter how they are devalued when they can’t possibly have any effect on the trade market, the only thing that could possibly be affected would be a drop or increase in price of siege blueprints.

boh are essentially the same as a dungeon currency. you can buy siege to sell on the tp to convert them to gold (just as you can salvage rares bought w/ tokens to get ectos to sell). the exchange rate is prolly around what you can get out of karma, which isnt too great for the effort involved.

look at every other item you can buy from a vendor and resell on the tp, for example crafting mats. they hold a value slightly higher on the tp than vendor buy price. only siege doesnt, when you can buy siege at a direct ratio of 1s:1boh, and its cuz ever since the achieve rewards were introduced weve had a huge surplus of boh. so… id say we definitely need more boh sinks.

now all this aside, you only said “boh arent gold so we dont need sinks”, and while thats completely false…. silk scraps arent gold, leather sections arent gold, ectos arent gold… and yet anet feels the need to give us something to do with things we can find. and they give us enough to do with those things so there is some measure of scarcity so that contemplating trading for those things isnt a futile endeavor. so why do you think we shouldnt want to spend our boh? whats the point in sitting on them when they could make my experience more fun with some nifty little trick?

Sentry turrets have very short range of detection (1200), which makes them next to useless for actually detecting moving forces around the map. Very nice idea though.

Siege engines of badlands are great… for enemies trying to siege the badlands keep! Since the transformation makes the player slow and very weak for fighting enemy players, using them to get the nearest walled objective should be no-brainer. Same is true for Kodan hammer.

The light transformation of overgrowth looks very powerful. Invulnerability and faster movement speed should make long trips through the map pleasant. I’d like to try it sometime.

Bell guardians are just free experience for enemy players, since they can’t defeat even a single attacker. Not worth using.
