Hello guys, i’ve read somewhere in the forum that a dev dropped hint that the true villain behind scarlet is someone we know. I don’t particularpy remember who said it, and in which post, but if this is true, can you link me the article or video of the dev hinting this? Thanks.

I think the prevailing (read: popular) theory is that the jungle Elder Dragon (Mordremoth?) intended for the Sylvari to be his champions/minions, but for some reason, the Pale Tree and The Dream have come into play to shield the Sylvari from his influence. This is backed up by the established lore that Ceara/Scarlet “took” into the machine that was designed to see the Eternal Alchemy “only what she already possessed.”

The device was designed to strip away externalities so that one only experienced the Eternal Alchemy. All other previous volunteers died as a result of the device, yet none of them were Sylvari (I may be remembering this wrong, feel free to correct me). The first Sylvari, Scarlet, went through the same process, but there was a significant difference – Mordremoth.

“What Scarlet Saw” mentions the Pale Tree pleading with Scarlet to turn away and go no further. It is clear that the Pale Tree is protecting Sylvari from something. Frankly, it makes perfect sense to me that Sylvari are “perverted” champions of Mordremoth.

I always knew there was something horribly wrong with Sylvari…

Kasmeer, on the other hand… We have a bone to pick with her…

Would be nice if someone could link a quote of the dev in the OPs statement.
I have a hard time thinking they would say something like that, but if they did… It could turn out quite juicy.

Or its Lord Faren. He was there too. I think its more him then Kasmeer. He’s doing to try to impress Kasmeer, since iirc he wasn’t doing that good of a job during SSC LS.

Perhaps Pale Tree gone rogue to teach that weedkitten a lesson – although dunno why she makes her to kill thousands.

Scarlet has mentioned missing Faren in his skivvies…

Perhaps it’s just unrequited love?

Meanwhile he’s got a female Sylvari that was willing to kidnap him, undress him, and put him in a jacuzzi…

Evon Gnashblade promised us to look into Abaddon’s case and I think it would have had to do with Scarlet’s story just as the Thaumanova Reactor was a project of hers. He was the god of secrets and scarlet seems to know a lot of secret stuff…

While I agree that Scarlet would have inevitably been involved in Evon Gnashblade’s fractal, I disagree that “the abyss” is Abaddon.

I mean, if we had voted for Evon, we’d have known about all of this in November…

That’d have only ruined the rest of the story (given ANet’s penchant for abrupt surprises without much exposition; see: Reveal of Scarlet Briar).

We’ve essentially not learned much in the past two updates other than “something” is causing Scarlet’s madness.

If we had known back in November that this “something” was Abaddon, the Living Story would have been that much more lackluster.

With the Human gods having essentially abandoned Tyria, I’d doubt Abaddon has much to do with any of this. (Why would they leave if Abaddon was still around?)

It seems much more likely to be a dragon. Especially due to the drawing in Scarlet’s lair. (there were no drawings of Abaddon)

Abaddon didn’t lurk under the ground. He was in the Mists.

They left the world shortly after imprisoning Abaddon in the realm of Torment.

Anyways since the apostate mention that Abaddon gained his powers from an older depose god, it is possible the current human gods aren’t the only god-like beings lurking around in the Mists. Perhaps Ceara encountered an avatar or a minion of one of these beings that tried to possess her but became trap due to the Sylvari’s physiology being different from humans. When she entered the sense deprivation machine the blocks put in place by her Sylvari nature were undone and the entity then exerted its influence.

As for the dragon drawing it could be the entity is manipulating her into thinking that the Elder Dragons are the key to her own salvation or perhaps to intentionally mislead us into thinking they are responsible, thus keeping its existence a secret.

The Mursaat are back.

Scarlet is behind Scarlet. She’s behind everything. It’s Scarlet all the way down man!

But if we’re lucky its Abaddon. Or something with the gods. Hopefully it’s something that actually connects with the lore.
