what is the point of this edge of the mist?
The only NA servers that are constantly queued are Jade Quarry and Black Gate, aka the 2 super stacked band wagon servers.
The rest of the NA servers get maybe 1 queue for an hour at a certain time, and 2 on a really good day, so being made to “give queuers something to do” is pretty irrelevant, since any server aside from JQ/BG can just join one of the other borderlands….
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.
It was made to do WvW stlye combat while waiting for long ques to get in.
More likely made for top tier or peak time NA servers that have large WvW playerbase.

well, the official statement is “wvw overflow”, if my memory serves my well. but how often wvw are overloaded (all 4 maps), I just dont know.

so design a pvpve environment would be lovely, don’t you think? eotm made me recall a lot thing of aion (abyss), in which people fighting for fortress and also for some bosses which have amazing loot. there was always huge fight between two sides for getting those bosses.

Just so you know, the only thing you cannot earn is score towards your server score since all servers of the same color are piled together. You can still get loot, world xp, ranks, badges, etc. Everything else you would earn in your normal maps you can earn in EoTM.
The design of the EoTM is meant to be a testbed for new mechanics for WvW, since the scores are not changed by this they can add new types of gameplay without affecting standing and seeing if the community likes them. Second, it allows players that would otherwise be waiting in LA to do something. Third, it’s design clearly favors roaming groups because of the large amount of choke points (for now we are still seeing a zerg vs zerg because its the new shiny).

exactly, it is just a mini wvw… but i like your explanation, and i do hope anet make it different from wvw and main game pve.
A lot of servers (both EU and NA) will have queues on most maps once WvW season 2 starts, EoTM counters the queues that lasted up to 3 hours and gives people something enjoyable to do instead of being afk.

Or, it could have been initially conceived a year ago.
I mean, even if you assume that the WvW team could design, texture, and code the thing in 6 months… (while the artists and programmers are also hard at work implementing Gem Store content and Living Story releases)
I’m sure they still did some in-house alpha testing before the invite-only beta last October.
If I had to guess, they’d probably been planning it since the end of 2012 at least.

Why not have it. Its a very odd world we live in. People complain they want more content then complain when we get it. Its fun, it fixes the problem of queue times. What’s the problem with that?
It’s a test map for stuff that might work in the main maps. Anet said so. So now they can make changes in the future and introduce to this map without affecting scores. When they find something that works, they can than make similar changes to the main map.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I can’t think of anything much more useful than that.
