So I checked and Canach is still in his little cell and Sherif Siriam is standing there “guarding” him. They are both just standing around nonchalantly as if nothing is happening. Neither will talk to you and neither seem to care about the destruction just outside their wide open door. In fact, a random speaking bubble comes up over Canach’s head occasionally saying “state your business.”

Either this is absolutely horrible writing, or it is a bug and they shouldn’t be there. I’m voting on the latter because I can’t see this being Anet’s intention when they so obviously put a lot of thought and effort into this patch. Here’s hoping this is fixed as it does take away from the emmersion of the event for people like me.

The speech bubble is just generic NPC chatter when players try to talk to him. Even NPCs that don’t open an actual dialogue window respond to being “activated” with generic vocal blurbs sometimes, and with so many players trying to talk to him it can happen quite often.

Its not at all a “bug” that Canach and the Sheriff are there. I think some NPC (maybe Kiel herself) mentions that Kiel used her ship and got them out when the attack occurred. Most likely Anet wants Canach around for a future Living Story event of some sort (many people theorize he’s going to be freed and become part of the “new destiny’s edge” group along with Taimi, Rox, Braham, Marjory, and Kasmeer) so they made sure it was clear he didn’t just end up dead in the city, but as far as dialogue they really don’t think he has anything to say about it. I’d be nice if he had a little something to say at least, but…

That’s weird. I saw Canach in LA helping us rescue people and fighting off Scarlet’s forces out in Fort Marriner with Captain Ellen and Captain Magnus.

If you hang around the fort when the miasma hits max, Kiel will come in with the airship and pull Magnus and the rest of the NPCs out.

Yeah, it makes just about zero sense from a continuity POW. But thats a MMO for you…
