With this update Anet have finally disconnected the Living and Personal Story timelines completely. (Horray!)

Does this mean we might see more of DE/Trahearne/other PS characters in the Living Story for some continuity between the two at last?

where the k i t t e n has the pact been through scarlet’s impending apocalypse
living story to me might as well be a 9000 page novel with 8998 blank pages
at least i can look at it from a tactical standpoint.. scarlet neglected to join trahearne or the pact, so it’s either worthless or formidable to her or whatever’s driving her.. this leads to an assault on lion’s arch.. still though, a probe has found ‘something’ ?under lion’s arch and there seems to be no end or reason in sight.. yet the next 2 updates are suppsoe to be super…

tldr, personal story was rushed and living world was overdrawn out.. this game makes me sad

I hope so. It makes absolutely no sense for Trahearne not to get involved.
- Scarlet stole his ships. One of the ships was then given to Kiel.
- A Secondborn attacked people with Karka and then was locked up.
- An undead dragon raised from the deeps, more powerful than ever.

While I do think that the guy deserves a break, he is the Marshal of the Pact. He has a job to do. I mean, if for some reason they can’t put him back on the story (voice acting, maybe), he could at least send some letters to the players. I mean, I am the commander of the Pact, one of his best friends, his most valuable ally according to him, and he never writes :c

Perhaps Trahearne is actually this E and the reason he doesn’t reveal himself to the players who have reached the point of the pact formation is so Anet doesn’t have to worry about these players spoiling the personal story for new players and have both groups discuss about E’s identity.

Um, the Pact was all over the tower of nightmares or did you forget? Afterwards you hear the vigil and order of whispers people on that hill talking about planning to take out Scarlet. The Priory was involved in the marionette attack (and since the group left, the lanes have priory members running them now).

The pact, while big, has a lot of fronts it’s working on. Mount Maelstrom, Frostgorge, I think they are active in Fireheart rise, Orr still…

No-one gets a break in Tyria. Not until the dragons are dead. Even if Trahearne is on holiday in Southsun, someone needs to lead the Pact.

But yeah, Scarlet and the cast are taking too much of the spotlight at the expense of the world building that would tell us other heroes and factions should be involved on a more prominent level.

It’d be hilarious to see Trahearne turn up in Lion’s Arch, point to the serial code on his stolen ship and cut the “bike chain” on his ship. That’ll teach Magnus and Kiel for accepting stolen goods (funny Kiel will take a stolen ship but she won’t use the loot from the crashed merchant ship and give it to the players like Evon did – I guess she only likes stolen things when she gets to keep them for herself).

I’m still curious how Lion’s Arch is going to work out for people who need to meet an apple seller. Some personal story stuff I could ignore (like the death of the Queen), but an entire city occupied, meeting an apple seller isn’t going to make sense at all. The Battle for Claw Island won’t make sense at all (let’s reclaim an island because the city might fall, you know, again).

I hope they at least have technology to show two separate instances. I did a personal story instance in Bloodtide Coast yesterday and there was the glaring inclusion of one of Scarlet’s thumpers in the middle of it. Escorting that political refugee out of the city won’t make a lot of sense if half of the landmarks are destroyed or burning while the NPCs wander around like it’s a normal day.

Don’t agree with Marjory not being believable as a person… but we agree on the Trahearne bit(mostly).

I’ve seen a LOT bashing him and hating on him, but twisting all the facts from what really happened. And even when you prove them wrong, they continue to act/twist the evidence.

where the k i t t e n has the pact been through scarlet’s impending apocalypse

To quote Smodur the Unflinching during Flame and Frost:

“What’s a commander of the Pact doing here? I thought you had dragons to fight.”

The Pact seems primarily – if not solely – designed to combat the Elder Dragons. All other threats are to be done by non-Pact groups. Such as the Priory, Vigil, Order of Whispers, Seraph, Lionguard, High Legions, Wolfborn, Wardens, Peacemakers, and your standard adventurer.

The Pact having no matter in this actually makes sense. Except for Tequatl Rising. But that’s likely done due to spoiler reasons.

As for what they’re doing? There was an interview with Scott and Angel about Scarlet, and the Pact got brought up. They’ve been recovering their losses, continuing the fight against remnant risen, and preparing their next Elder Dragon assault (including deciding whom to go after).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Rox, Braham, Marjory, Kasmeer, and Taimi are referred to internally as “B-Iconics” (or Biconics) as opposed to our “A-Iconics” or main iconic characters, Caithe, Rytlock, Eir, Zojja, and Logan. They are not a “replacement” for Destiny’s Edge; these characters fulfill a different role in the story. Because members of Destiny’s Edge are so entwined with your Personal Story as well as the over-arching story with Zhaitan, and because the Living World plot lines are taking place at the same time all those other story threads, we couldn’t have the members of Destiny’s Edge splitting themselves between these other areas and what was going on with Living World. This is partly why we introduced these new characters.

From the thread that will never die.

It’s interesting, with the partial destruction of Lion’s Arch the time lines clash in a big way. This would presumably free up the A Iconics and there would be no more need for the B Iconics. The story can finally move forward.

How does this make sense at all? Pact aligned forces were heavily involved in Tower of Nightmares. It wasn’t until this last update they had access to her recordings/learned she might be manipulated by something else.

Up until this point, there has been no (solid) evidence of a dragon being involved (besides Scarlet’s experiments with dragon energy). Trust me, if a dragon gets revealed, they’ll come. Until then they are rebuilding their forces and managing the Risen while they plan their next campaign.

I think E is either Ellen Kiel or Evon Gnashblade. Probably Gnashblade, since Kiel won the election – had Gnashblade won, it would have been Kiel.

Sure, but like Becka said. The catch phrase for those of you that dont know was “Its Trahaerne’s story” just like “Scarlett did it”.

ANet need to think carefully about Trahaerne’s future inclusion or risk a community backlash like we’ve seen previously.

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

You must’ve missed the point besides Zhaitan, the other dragons haven’t really been on the offensive. Zhaitan was the most offensively focused dragon so far, the rest harass/don’t do as much. The Pact is rebuilding it’s forces and planning which dragon to attack next (and the campaign for it), Scarlet simply appeared in that lull. Or would you rather have living story constantly be able the Pact trying to repair/resupply their weapons and armors, finding new recruits and adventurers to join them etc?

Hell, in the early levels you could call the dragons a “Non-entity!” because they don’t do anything until you start dealing with the order. That doesn’t mean nothing’s happening in the world relating to them.

Have to disagree with this.

Ok, that could be the reason many players dislike Trahearne, but not for me. I like that Trahearne is the leader of the pact and my character did all they could to support him. I like that my character is not the “star” of the show, but rather one of a group of characters all supporting each other with a common interest.

Why I don’t like Trahearne – 90% because of his terrible voice. Dull, uninspiring, unbelievable, wooden… I won’t go on. The other 10% would be for some of his dialogue and how he was shoehorned into the personal story – makes sense for sylvari as they’ve met him before but for other races is a bit jarring.
Then the biggest annoyance – he should have sacrificed himself on Claw Island instead of Sieran, but that’s just a pet peeve of mine.

That’s the thing about Trahearne though, he does seem wooden and dull but I don’t think it’s because he wasn’t meant to. If you read about the Sylvari especially the secondborn one Cadeyrn (you know that one that founded the Nightmare Court) there’s an instance where when talking about what the Asura did to Malomedies, Trahearne is reacting in the same way that Cadeyrn is. Which speaks volumes to what Trahearne’s true character is like, I don’t think he much enjoys his Wyld Hunt to be quite honest but that’s just my opinion.

Just read through this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dream_and_Nightmare

And to quote the part in question:

Cadeyrn glanced at Trahearne, whose expression was as black as his own. No soldier would say such things. No one who had ever lifted a blade to stop oppression, or placed themselves in danger to free innocents, would say that revenge was unfitting. If Faolain and Caithe were here, they would argue his side, he was sure of it.

Abruptly, Trahearne looked up toward the spreading boughs. “Yes, Mother,” he answered a whisper only he could hear. Chagrined, the necromancer unclenched his fists. “The Pale Tree says we need to concentrate on our true enemy: the dragons. Every ally will be needed.” Gritting his teeth, Trahearne finished, “We make peace with the asura.”

I mean that doesn’t seem like the Trahearne in our personal story at all.

Thank you for linking that, I haven’t read it before and now have a new respect for Trahearne.

In the game he comes across as a sombre contemplative character – this I do like and can get from his voice, but too often his voice breaks across into completely wooden and unfitting (unrealistic) which makes him completely unbelievable.

I’m not sure now what he should be like – tbh I wouldn’t mind if they hired a new VA for him and put him more in line with that dialogue linked above.
