Where’s Canach?

In a cell in Vigil Keep. Haven’t you paid attention? :P

Oh, so he is. My mistake.

I know it’s fun to be snide, gosh knows I enjoy it, but if the feedback you have to offer can be truncated to “LOL WHY DON’T YOU JUST QUIT?” then please go back to the drawing board.

It was also stated later on this epilogue would take place in the Death End bar (forgot where) What did you expect?

Wrapping up of loose ends. I can think of at least five.
Mai Trin- Where is she?
Aetherblades- What happens to them?
Molten Alliance- What happens to them?
Toxic Alliance- What happens to them?
Caithe’s secret- What was it and how did Scarlet learn it? Did I miss it or is something actually going on? Come to think of it, since Scarlet’s dead, will the Aetherblade Path in TA change?

Mai Trin is in the Edge of the Mists. She appears in hologram in the central hub, presumably transmitted from the airship directly over the location.

I have not been to a party that awkward since Cl4p-Tp’s birthday….

On a constructive feedback note:
I cannot for the life of me find any connection, empathy, or like for the krewe of characters the writers thrust upon me throughout this story cycle. To be honest, it seems like a separate graphic novel or the exploits of some other guild that I am interrupted by during my adventure and forced to acknowledge.
I would suggest either engaging our personal stories with them somehow, or just leave them as a separate comic serial via alternate media, print, or some (prefer optional) other in-game feature.

as long as it’s constructive.

Never said that only positive feedback should be allowed. Negative feedback is important too – I’m totally on your side with this one.

I just don’t see any constructive feedback in this thread so far, simply because tastes differ. Saying you don’t like character a, b or c is like saying you don’t like music genre x,y or z. People have different tastes and in the end there will always be someone who’s unhappy with somethig. It is impossible to please everyone.

(it goes for you too, Feothyr.)

Where have I been rude? Serious question. Never ment to be rude.

I never said anything about quitting. Please, read my post. There’s tons of stuff to do in Guild Wars 2, so if you don’t like the LS, because you think ArenaNet’s forcefeeding us Scarlet, then don’t play it (in the sense of: don’t play that part of the game …)

I’m going to hop aboard the bandwagon and nod in agreement here.
While part of the Living Story was said to be experimental, I think we can all agree that the people in charge of character development and dialogues need a… I was going to say nudge, but perhaps a big shove in the right direction is really what they need. I’m really, really having this issue badly, too. I just feel nothing for them. I have no reason to. I did like Marjory for a bit, but as I mentioned previously, some writing decisions in this patch sort of wrecked that. I do like Taimi to a degree, but she strikes me as intensely naive even for a child of her age, and especially for an Asura child, but I can at least handwave her behavior a bit as blind ambition.

DE 2.0 have fallen into the dreaded trope of the Eight Deadly Words.

I honestly felt more of a connection with Trahearne, who confided his anxieties and feared shortcomings to me, and (if you pay extremely close attention) spoke to me as a genuinely concerned friend would, than any of these characters. And I don’t particularly like Trahearne. (it’s not due to the supposed glory-stealing thing before someone says anything about that particular can of worms)

I wasn’t expecting anything major and I don’t think most of the complaints here are about that. The main issue is quality of writing, not quantity of it or anything else.

So yeah, now that its over. First Season story, wasnt very good. the dialogs generally felt poorly executed, the pacing of the story was really poor. The climax wasnt that climatic. Recently been playing shadowrun returns, basically a old isometric rpg, and with just profile pictures some text, told a better story and executed it better. Then i played some user generated content, it was still superior to this entire season story/storytelling/presentation wise. There were some cool events, and some cool moments sprinkled througout, but overall, disjointed, poorly paced, Some what cheesy. Now i guess this isnt constructive, i dunno what to tell you.

I guess the take away for the story guys is, umm back to the drawing board?

yeah i feel bad, somebody worked really hard at this story probably, maybe more than just one, but it just wasnt very good..

uh-huh. I agree… The story was pretty disappointing. So it took an entire year of “the ending is going rock tyria ‘till it’s core”. Yet the story is pretty much “Scarlet came, woke a dragon up and destroyed 1 or 2 buildings in LA and maybe a wall or 2.”

Where is the surprising twist in the story? GW2 has an amazing lore. For example She could have helped Dhuum escape from his prison. He could have been imprisoned by the ley-lines (those ley-lines make the magic flow around tyria. I’m sure anet could make something up that makes it believable for Dhuum to be imprisoned by magic). Season 1 could have ended with the same big blow and Dhuum rising up from the explosion (this would be a real twist, especially since everyone thought it would be the jungle dragon for months now). In season 2 Dhuum could make such a big havoc that the underworld would open up (as playable zones).

But what do we get? “You have a sister? insert 2 minute silence Ow, my leg hurts. uh-huh” and a movie that didn’t load for me. (So I looked it up on youtube. For those who missed the video too. Someone uploaded it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8mQlYXyZqE )

I do like the story instances where you get some background on all the npc’s. but not as the ‘ending’ of a season. Don’t tell me they ‘forgot’ to add a cliffhanger in there :/
Nobody is worried about a dragon or about LA. So why should I care about it at all?

From the March 4th patch notes:
A small release will be available on March 18, which will provide an epilogue to recent events. That release will show the aftermath of what players have experienced in the Battle for Lion’s Arch and will conclude the current story arc.

It was also stated later on this epilogue would take place in the Death End bar (forgot where) What did you expect?

Gee, I don’t know, good story telling? A fulfilling sense of accomplishment? Dialogue that didn’t sound like it was written by a child who just finished watching some terrible anime ending?

You forget this is Living Story. Did you really expect good story telling and all loose ends wrapped up? All you get in Living Story is poorly written dialogue, shallow story and plotholes.

sadly i dont think it would have been any better as an expansion, except maybe more editorializing. I want expansions, but im not to optimistic about any plotlines/charachters based on this last year. I guess its going to come down to the content creation. Maybe they can make compelling gameplay without a solid backdrop from the story.

I actually went to check on a few characters; Riel Darkwater in particular, because I know she’s Commodore Lawson’s attache.

Not exactly what she does. But we don’t talk about that.

Apparently, Doern Velazquez thinks that Lion’s Arch still needs agents sent there to protect it. Yes Doern. The city full of dead bodies and nothing needs people protecting it.

Of course it still needs protecting. Just because Scarlet’s dead doesn’t mean there’s not some opportunistic pirates who would love to take a swing at a weakened city.

Technically none of the npcs should know it’s a dragon(unless scarlet left some hints somewhere), all they can see is a beam shooting out of a giant drill, only players know it’s mordy cause we see where the beam actually lead to at the end.

Maybe they’d know something if Braham and Marjory weren’t so intent on disrupting the only person with any answers?

I’m really starting to resent these characters. I love the idea of a former Ministry Guard (Marjory) taking on the corruption in Divinity’s Reach (and following that story to Brisban if it’s linked to the bandits). I hate the recurring cast of characters with weak to no motivation to be involved in every release, replacing more relevant characters and turning the Epilogue into some kind of mix between a teen Sitcom and a Soap Opera. These “friends” are adding familiarity to the releases but they are not making the story stronger. They are making the story about them and not what’s actually going on (the things I care about).

I don’t care about someone’s sister or “insert joke here”, I want to know what impact the ley line had on Thaumanova, what’s going on in Lion’s Arch, in the refugee camps, in Maguuma, in the three Orders, in the Pact, with the Pale Tree. Tyria is so much bigger than these four characters.

In game, the siege of LA happened in a matter of days. Think of it as Groundhog Day. Yes, to us we replayed the events over and over, but in a very linear ending. One of the Lionguard talk about going in and taking back over during Escape, only to be told to wait until the trade winds carried the miasma out to sea.

For us as players, that was every hour, at least it appeared. However the miasma dispersion for characters didn’t happen until Battle.

In Battle, we killed Scarlet and the drill was blasted with magic. However, it didn’t explode until today. For the characters, that was within a very short period of time, even if it was two weeks for the player.

The point I’m making is that there’s no reason to expect the characters to know anything about Thaumanova. LA has just been reclaimed so nothing’s happening other than it appears. No one’s sure that Maguuma is an option yet. The Pale Tree isn’t under focus because they don’t even know what dragon it is. Yes, as a player you want to know that, but as a character in a video game, you’re asking for a lot of information to come too quickly to be realistic.

Its true that its not been a lot of time, however, they choose at what point to time skip to. Obviously some time has past, people some are back in LA some are still by the vigil, etc. They could have fast fowarded to any point that would most entice for the next arc, they chose to do like a relaxing round table type of scene. Which imo, is a fairly poor teaser overall. The season definately doesnt leave you on you seat and excited for more. The epilog doesnt round out the old story, or draw you in to the next. Its very anti dramatic in general.

I bet you’re the type of person who would buy THE winning lottery ticket and win 400 million dollars with it…

And after finding out you won, complain because you really meant to take the annuity option or vice versa and got screwed out of some of the winnings, or you won’t be happy paying your portion of taxes on it and complain about that.

Heck, you’ll find something to complain about or be unhappy with. I don’t doubt that for one second. Never mind you just won 400 million and could be happy…instead, you’ll be sad and complain.

Don’t do that to yourself.

I’m honestly glad I missed 7 months of this LS. I’d probably be even more perturbed at how it ended.

As to the in-game time frame, take each update that happened roughly every two weeks and count that as a day that is repeated constantly for two weeks then you’d might be able to handle the story a tiny bit better knowing that from the end of the Personal Story to the end of the Living Story (including the Karka) only 26 days have passed in-game.

This would actually explain away most, if not all of the plot holes seeing as how the Living Story was less than a month from start to finish and therefore the plot holes “technically” are not there. Example, the probes were only there for about a day or two before they ’sploded and a full investigation could not be done in time.

Concept of time could help make this palatable for many.

Actually, taking the concept of time into factor (take Halloween and Winter’s Day out since that is mostly for the players), 26 days from the Karka attack to Scarlett’s attack REALLY brings into perspective why LA wasn’t fortified enough to prevent Scarlett from slapping the tar out of the Lionguard.

Wasn’t just Factions, we had cheering crowds of a sort in Lion’s Arch after we kicked Izzy . . . I mean Confessor Isiah . . . to the curb and killing every mursaat which dared stick their stupid Tyrael-lookalike selves through the city gate.

Well, Factions was the first and I never played Beyond but the first time I finished Factions was so AWESOME. That ending really make you feel like a godkitten hero, and without saying a single word.

Why fix the Necromancer for free when we can charge $$$ for the Revenant

lesbian wedding next? lmao

Gosh, I hope not. Some things are best left to the dark.

The whole relationship fell flat. Like an episode of Life in the Dreamhouse where Barbie tells Ken, sorry, but she’s decided to play for the other team.

So, only thing that we get is the “heroes” stand around in a bar making jokes. The PC tells them it’s a Dragon and Kasmeer is surprised. (has she been living in a barrel?) Then Marjory’s sister comes in (?) and drops a hint about going to Brisban wildlands, which is about the only interesting thing about this. After standing there and listening their yammering some more you get a reward (which you deserve) and can leave. And you’re left hanging with a feeling of … lacklusterness.

But yes, I was really disappointed that so many plotlines were left unanswered and the focus was on these NPC’s the devs are trying hard to push as interesting characters. So fitting end to the living story, I guess.

Did anyone else believe that was a party?

Not one had a drink or food and didn’t exhibit any party-like exuberance.

Not only that, that was the quietest part I have ever seen, no band, and these are the heroes of Tyria in a tiny place without the grandeur of the city they are sitting in with its Queen still firmly on the throne?

Ok, so where’s the dragon and how do we do anything when there is no direction to the dragon or any ability to rebuild our city.

A blank week?

I am as confused as anyone else.

I don’t mind the quiet, subtle atmosphere of the party. The lighting in the bar is really cool, the ambient noise is a really nice touch, and, well, flame me if you like, but this little bunch kinda started to grow on me a little. Granted, the game already had its token lesbian couple (Faolain, anybody?), so that seemed like overkill, but I dunno. I thought the scene felt like, not so much a party, as a ‘well, we did it.. Let’s kick back and relax for a bit now that we just saved a whole friggin’ city’ kind of deal.

Don’t worry guys, Kasmeer’s hiccups are gone…THANK THE SIX we got that

Why was she hiccuping anyway? I enjoyed the fights on the airship, even finishing Scarlet was interesting, but the whole time I was playing it, it was pushed to the back of my mind. The front was occupied by ‘why the heck won’t you shut up? stop it with the hiccups!’

The hiccups were stupid and distracting and made what I presume was supposed to be a serious scene seem cheesily comical. I kept thinking that she wasn’t going to be any help at all – a dumb blonde that comes to a fight drunk.

Anybody else feel that Marjory’s sister has been shown just so she can be killed off in the next Living Story release? You know, give Marjory a personal reason to go kill a dragon.

Yep, all she was missing was her red shirt.

+10 for Star Trek reference!
