“I wish juvenile wolves were bigger”
I have to guest to TC at some point. I’ve always been interested in the RP side of this and might throw my hat into that ring on occasion.
We are going to welcome you with open arms ^^
My guess is that the first time you will load into Lion’s Arch you will be directed to a private instance where you witness the initial invasion of Lion’s Arch. After that LA will be made up of at least two strongholds (one at the Mystic Forge area and one around the fractals/Lionguard area) with maybe a few other outposts. None of the functionality of LA will be changed and LA will basically just resemble Orr for the next month or so. After that it will be the same old LA with the same central city functionality but much of the structures will be damaged.
However, if Anet completely change things up with LA I will be genuinely impressed.
@ Simonoly: We hope NOT. We expect CHANGES.
Please check up “Our Opinion” topic here.

They’ve already said (via Massively’s article) that LA’s functionality/services will be moved to Vigil Keep for now. And there will be some other entry point to start any personal story content that is in LA.
OK, just from reading a few things that have also been said, some clarifications: Scarlet was originally doing things that she thought were of her own making but as time went on she realized were of someone/something else’s bidding. She seems to have been pushing back against that more recently and might even be trying to find/combat it. This would explain the original move to try to instill someone on the council and now (having found what she might be looking for under LA), her destruction of LA to find whatever this is that won’t leave her be, so the story still works just fine (if you’ve been following it). This isn’t a destruction of everything just because it’s cool. This might be a real set up for real change moving forward, including with how personal stories are even done.
As for the fight against an elder dragon’s forces: that was a small force trying to gain a foothold into LA. it wasn’t a wholesale invasion of forces, just a glorified scouting party. Scarlet is actually bringing the entirety of her Dredge, Flame Legion, Krait, Aetherblades and weapons to bear on LA, which far out shines what Zee threw at it. Remember, he barely thought of the humans as a threat until we started punching him in his surrogate eyes and mouths. I’m loving this story so far.
I’m more curious if this is another one of those temporary things that lasts 2 weeks. I mean they burn LA to the ground and over the course of releases it get’s magically rebuilt?

Depends on what happens later, I guess… it’s not just scarlet’s attack that will hit LA, also whatever is it that she found under it (the probe that turned green). It can go either way, either with LA slowly rebuilding itself over the next several months (kinda like what happened to the statue in the first halloween event), or becoming the next Orr and another city becoming the main social hub.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Kessex Hills after the tower collapsed, but I’m sure those bits of tower that are all over the place weren’t there before the whole thing started.
Change Title to escape from LA
I agree with those who want LA to be destroyed so that the other cities can hold more significance.
I also agree that Scarlet is an experimental villain who is not suited to hold the mantle given to her, but seeing as how she is most likely a minion of an elder Dragon that things are heading in a desirable direction even if it does includes mostly revamping old areas instead of adding new ones.
I would also say that it makes sense for the Vigil and only the Vigil to take up the task of accommodating that which used to reside in LA. They are the eternal protectors. Their whole spiel is to protect people and unite the races. LA is rather unprotected due to a lack of walls, defensive positions and a less than intimidating army. The Vigil is a military order with a fortress. They would want to keep the united spirit of LA alive even as the city burns. The Order of Whispers likes to work on the down low and would not appreciate having their secret underground lair turned into a travel and trade center. While the Priory who would be interested in keeping the history of LA alive, they are more interested in books and such than people. They like the Order of Whispers would not appreciate the change to their HQ because they would not want pirates stealing precious artifacts, and such a buzz of people would get in the way of research.
I hope and agree that Anet should include player choice in the eventual rebuilding of the iconic city of Lion’s Arch.
Pretty sure its going to be a pretty perm change. Remember that bridge that used to lead to that lighthouse in LA that was destroyed during the karka event?
Who is scarlet?

I reckon it’ll be a bit of both, rebuild LA plus a link to a new expansion hub.
The area that has several unfinished asura gates looks to me like it is meant to allow LA to add new links as expansions come along (perhaps as a hub of hubs) – it seems an odd thing to have had in from the beginning if the plan was to destroy LA. More likely, LA will gradually rebuild, while a new Maguuma hub appears to the west, as I presume that is where season 2 will take us. Further west than Dominion of Winds, perhaps Isles of Janthir, with White Mantle and Mursaat making a reappearance.

Yeah, this sounds pretty much like what will likely unfold. Least in my head anyway.
Oh my goodness I’m so excited! Guess I better get ahead in all my classes so I can go into recluse-mode for a day or two when this releases.
I really love how Guild Wars 2 has improved over the past half-year. When it first released I was indescribably excited. Over the first few months, my excitement dulled a bit because the game was less than what we were promised.
Yet, with time, the game has become more polished. Most of the things that bugged me before have been addressed. And now, the game is really starting to feel like what I dreamed it would be during those hopeful pre-release days. For the first time, I feel excited as if the game were brand new again—and I love that.
I think arenanet is doing a wonderful job. From me, they’ve gained an ardent supporter. I look forward to enjoying Guild Wars 2 in the years to come.
Scarlet singing “I feel like chicken tonight”?
That was my line whenever I faced them in GW1… Mineral Springs, how I hated ye.
But…but… what about silver dubloon pirate jp farming?
Park your character there now. And pray

L.A.‘s destruction is making way for the Sylvari’s (my) dragon overlord and master, Mordremoth.
All meat sacks surrender and bow down or else be cut down by killer salads!
My take is that she’s not so much attacking Lion’s Arch, as she is getting it out of the way of whatever her goal is under LA. Presumably it’s whatever attempted to control/influence her after she dove into the Eternal Alchemy – if that’s what she did.
What is it under LA? Don’t know, not really enough information. Could be a Dragon, or a dragon minion. Could be a Mursaat – a thought I rather like, but I’ve no information pointing to that. Could be an anti-Pale Tree (Pale Mushroom?), that is exerting its influence into the Dream, adding a touch of Nightmare. And so forth…
This new trailer has me really intrigued. Truly a shocker – LA burning was the last thing I expected to see. My mouth fell open.
This story just keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to find out what happens.
Who is scarlet?
If you are serious: +1 for you good Sir or Madam!
What about those unused asura gates?
What about those unused asura gates?
What about that shooting gallery in Divinity’s Reach?
Or the gate in Rata Sum to the polymock arena?
Or the interactive player personality system?
Or the Guild Wars 2 Extended Experience™?
The game is littered with projects apparently abandoned. Those gates could be used in the future, or they could be some developer’s orphaned creation.
Those features are not abandoned, they’re paused. What you see is the existing preparation for them. They’ll come when possible.

Paused pending resource allocation.*
*Resource allocation dependent upon marketing approval for development. In the event that it will keep people playing each day, bring members back from inactivity or allow for an influx of gem flow marketing will notify the supervisor relevant To allocate .5 resources to the relevant project.
I think it’s safe to say they are more than paused.

I don’t think we’ll see any more than a trickle of activities being added to the daily rotation with related living story updates. Pre-release marketing claimed the game was shipping with 30 activities, usually citing a bar brawl as the example. The game shipped with 1, and it wasn’t even the poster-child example we had heard about for so long. A year and a half later, we have 3 more. We’re still 26 short of what the game was supposed to launch with.
Yes, yes, and yes. And I hope we get to rebuild even BIGGER Lion’s Arch, because this isn’t a city, this is a village. It’s the size of a bigger town square. That was always my problem with this place, being too small.
Yeah, I really do hope when Lion’s Arch is rebuilt it’ll be into the grand city it was always described as. LA was immensely disappointing when I saw it in game after reading about it in the books and all the descriptions of it.
It was described as a bustling trade metropolis and while the game does have fairly impressive trade centers/markets outside of that is has, what, four bars and maybe a dozen houses?
PREDICTION: LA will be destroyed. After a bit of time the Tengu will open up the Dominion of Wind and their city will become the new hub of the world. Shortly after, you will be able to create Tengu as a playable race with the purchase of gems.
Then, the old LA will become an explorable area with enemies swarming into the desolated lands.
Scarlet isn’t targeting something buried deep beneath Lion’s Arch. She is targeting a main junction in the ‘ley lines’ themselves. She found the sweet spot. If she blows that junction, everything goes back to ‘0’. No Waypoints, Asura Gates or Portals to the Underworld. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
